Most Users at BBB

We’re talking about two different kinds of stats. There are log files; text files that record the details of every hit. A hit includes every image or externally referenced file (.css, .js, .xml, etc.) on a page. With all the little icons and graphics used in the forums, you’ll get a lot of “hits” on this page alone. This makes the log files rather large, but doesn’t really slow down users at all.

The forum stats I was referring to are simply a series of queries that show the most read topics, the most active topics, the most recently logged on members, number of posts per month, new members per month, etc. These stats simply query the database for the information, but the number of queries and the amount of data can bog down the database server (which drives most of the site). That’s why I’d rather not have everyone and their brother running it. 🙂

Post count boosting?

If you look very carefully, I made a change to the verbage (and the code) that describes the active users. Notice that it says “in the past hour?” This is the key reason for the perceived “surge” in visits.

Then you wasted your post and boosted your count by one……… PROUD?
