ParticipantAwhile back, my windows messenger stopped working, so I started using an older version (that was version 4.6) and I used it without any problems for a long while. But 2 days ago, it told me that I had to download a later version or it would not let me sign in. But me….knowing that if I did that, and tried to sign in, it would give me this error: “SIGNING IN TO THE .NET MESSENGER SERVICE FAILED BECAUSE THE PASSWORD IS INCORRECT OR THE SIGN-IN NAME DOES NOT EXIST. IF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD, CLICK THE HELP BUTTON IN THE MAIN WINDOW, AND THEN CLICK HELP TOPICS.
And trust me, I tried all of that, and even more, and NOTHING seems to work. I have alot of business to take care of on there, as well as friends, etc. So if anyone can help me wit this problem I’d really appreciate it.

OH!, and if this helps any, I have Windows XP……..

ParticipantQuote:quote:I tried all of that, and even moreHave you tried signing your .NET passport onto a different computer? Have you (or anyone else) tried signing in a different passport?
Conflict between firewalls (especially Symantec developed), have been noted to cause this error message in the past. If by chance you are behind any firewall, disable it and try signing in again.
Also, just a note that sign-in passports and passwords are case sensitive, so make sure you are using the correct casing (ie. “PassWord” is different from “password”).

ParticipantYou mentioned you’re using WinXP. Are you using the default Win XP firewall? If so:
- Network Connections > (Right-click your connection) > Properties > Advanced > Uncheck the ‘Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet’ field
Your firewall will then be disabled the next time you connect to the Internet, so just imply disconnect from the Internet, then reconnect, and your firewall is now turned off.

ParticipantOk, I’ll try that, but for some strange reason me internet connection (AOL) says it’s disconnected…..but I am on it everyday. Right now to be exact. But with the firewall and what not, I will try it, then i’ll get back to ya.
Thankx Anna ;):)

ParticipantWell, if you are using AOL as your ISP, then perhaps your connection problem may be related to this:
Problems loggin MSN on AOL ISP
I haven’t heard any updates on this situation, or whether AOL has fixed this connection problem with MSN.

ParticipantSomething else is wrong, I tried clicking on my default connection (Which is AOL) And I tried clicking on properties, but the properties window doesn’t come up. It doesn’t do anything when I click on it -__-

ParticipantOpen Network Connections (Control Panel > Network Connections) and highlight your connection. A menu called “Network Tasks” on the left hand should expand. Click “Change settings of this account”.

MemberI dont think that is the problem because my messenger was fine until they told me to update, now i cant sign in anymore because it says that my .net passport does not exist, yet i can sign into the site no problems

MemberI had the same problems that you guys have. I fixed it by re-installing the IE SP1 patch.
Try that and see if anything happens.
