Spike..I sympathize with you. I’m the one that started the original post about this problem called “login hell” so I’ve been asking everyone and reading everything. I’m hoping someone will find the solution but they haven’t yet. I’m convinced its not cookies or temp files. Meanwhile, I swtiched to using FireFox, I didn’t want to, but I tried it and the problem never happens with FireFox. FireFox will bring over all your bookmarks and passwords etc from IE, and although this is no fix…it ends the frustration until we can solve the real problem. Please keep me posted if you do stumble upon the solution. Could it be a freaky update to windows that caused it? Do you do the routine updates regularly?
I almost never update Windows, and, sorry, I don’t plan to switch to Firefox anytime soon.
There’s something that’s changed about the main page that was left out or not added that all of the other pages still have. Or maybe it’s something with the header, I couldn’t tell you exactly. But like I said, it never happens on any other vBulletin sites for me, and it doesn’t happen on other computers with this site that I own. Again, I’ve tried claering my entire internet cache, but to no avail. So I’m really out of ideas.
What’s weird is that it doesn’t happen to everyone. You’d think it would. It works perfectly on all my computers running Internet Explorer (and every other browser I’ve tested).
Yes and I have a few browsers it also works fine on. I downloaded the Maxthon browser and it also working fine and as a matter of fact I like this browser so much I think this will be the one I use from now on.
My firefox updated itself last night, and again, I’m never logged in…
Edit: Upon again, clearing my cache, history and cookies, it’s working again.
I guess updates break it, but purging immediately afterwards fixes it.
Okay, update. Suddenly I’m logged in (it works now), but… every other session I try to use is broken. i.e. gmail keeps refreshing itself over and over again, I can’t log into some sites like Digg, etc. Any help? I’ve already tried reinstalling Maxthon, but to no avail.
Edit: Nevermind, a restart fixed the problem. 🙂 (I’m still having BBB login issues like before, however)
Good news! We’ve found the problem and are correcting it straightaway.
The problem was that people were vising “bigblueball.com” when all of the user’s cookies only reside on “www.bigblueball.com” which is why when you went to visit another page and then go back to the homepage (thus, re-adding the www.) would “log you in” so to say.
We’ll be implementing a fix within 48 hours.
