MemberThis seems a very difficult situation, as we have all mentioned the guy has not done a thing wrong, just seems to swamp the forum. It’s not done him any favours with the staff. It has just made us uneasy.
In my book it has made me lazy, *sarah goes to look at into* in the morn, shock horror William has posted…. But I was a member for well over a year before I got to a staff member and it was a wonderful surprise, and infact I felt in some way ready for my position. I knew the crew here and and to be honest had been given the postion because of my history on bbb.
A member with a history of 2 months does not deserve the merit of staff, period!

MemberBah! Just looked at his join date…April?!?!? (Yeah, I’m oblivious, so what…) He is definately not ready for staff, I mean, we’re talkin 6 months minimum (I’m sure there have been exceptions to that in the past), I mean, as a general rule I would think 6mo is enough time to get your post count up a bit, get to know some people, and get settled into a section. Not even 2 months into it, and he wants to be staff? As much as I like his enthusiasm, and as much as I hate to be negative towards new staff, my vote is no. No way is he ready, he’s all over the place, he’s not even 2 months old, and he’s…well…to put it bluntly, creepy.
I hate to bash him like this, like Tom said, really, but come on… 😮

Yes, i joined in January, but my first post was in March and i was asked to became a mentor 2 months later in May. I take that into offense 🙁 as i feel i have done an alright job enough to get me to be an advisor now…
But as for William i think the main thing to do is wait it out and see what happens. (See if his posts here at BBB get better, see if they stop seeming like spam, see if he does indeed stick around longer, and most importantly to see if any the team leaders want him as part of their section). As said he hasn’t done anything wrong, but best thing would probably be to wait and let him know that there is currently no openings then…
Edit: (i posted this without reading Spike’s post since his post wasn’t there when i started typing, and i’m not editing what it typed, just giving notice ;)) So yeah i guess i’m an exception but that apparently wasn’t as strict before :. And yeah more time needs to go by then.

MemberAh, I didn’t mean to offend you, as I said, there are exceptions, and you’ve done a great job as staff here from what I’ve seen, no worries. 🙂 Back on track, even if he’s only 2 months old, he’s still “everywhere” on the forums, and that’s not a good staffer to me (Should have specific knowledge in 1 or 2 areas).

And as i told you on chat, I see it from his point of view. The reason i wasn’t all over the board was because i only thought there was a Yahoo section in this forum. It wasn’t till i found the Today’s Post link, that i found out about the rest of the sections. Maybe had i known about the rest i would have posted everywhere, but to everyone their own. The fit for staff on him is just not right for now as everyone has stated… As time goes on that may change but final choice goes on Team Leaders and Jeff.

Sincere apologies as you are a great advisor, please don’t take offense I really did not mean to upset you. I just didn’t think, my post was kind of rushed last night. :crying:
Maybe I am wrong, but when you joined you stated that you mainly posted in yahoo, so the reason you were given the position as mentor so quickly was probably due to the staff at the time seeing that your had an excellent knowledge of yahoo and snapped you up! With William however, what I meant was, it’s not just that he posts all over the place but his posts on the majority of occasions (not all) are much to do about nothing. So anyway sorry for any upset. Just thought of something I wonder if he knows the web address for wackyb’s!! haha just kidding by the way…

MemberIn any case if you wish to add him to staff I request you Jeff to delete this thread or he’ll be really upset.

So when you stated about not deserving to be staff after 2 months felt directed at me since apparently William has only been here a month. Thanks for clearing up the misunderstanding though. 😛 Alright but it is very early for me still and i’m on summer vacation now so: *goes off back to bed*
Oh and I completely agree with you Hasan. I think he might consider this a William-bashing thread if he did read it someday.

ParticipantWell, since Jeff did address his post to, ahem, TEAM LEADERS, I thought it might be nice to actually have one of use included in the conversation. 😉
But it is awesome to see everyone’s feedback on this!Anyway, WilliamLee inquired to me directly about a month and half ago when he was very very new here about how to advance into a staff role. I told him our general requirements for advancement and have kept my eye on him ever since. That said, he has known for quite some time what we look for, and I get the impression he is overdoing things simply in hopes of being noticed for a staff role.
I personally have yet to be convinced he’s ready for a staff position. I agree with the majority of the thoughts here, and he hasn’t quite hit me right either. Honestly, his maturity level is what I question. I see that his profile states his age at 45, but if I were to guess his age based purely on his posts, I would have thought he was 13. Maybe it’s just me, though it’s nice to see enthusiasm, he seems to be a little too much on full blast from my impression.
So, at this point I’m not prepared to invite him onto either of my Teams.

KeymasterThanks, Shifter (and everyone else sharing their views). I never realized this would be such an active discussion!
On the one hand, we want to encourage people to feel comfortable here at BigBlueBall, and to be active on the forums. On the other hand, we don’t want to get the willies! For whatever reason, Williamlee has had that effect on a lot of people. I’ll talk to him and ask him to curb his enthusiasm just a bit.

MemberIndeed, that is what’s needed, Jeff.
Otherwise this seems almost like a hijack, or a new form of Denial Of Service attack, on BBB !In fact, I remember now when I’d just started on here, often when I’d answer a question, or respond to someone new I’d feel nervous and unsure if that was my “place”, or if I should leave such things up to “staff”.
Obviously there’s a balance to be struck – but William seems to lack any concept of that. 🙁
To him – AND, I fear, to a number of confused newbies – he IS, or at least represents, BigBlueBall. 🙁 -
