Internet radio was dealt a serious blow by the RIAA … Live 365 now retroactively owes $2,000,000 and is expected to pay out over $200,000 per month in royalties. This is for all practical purposes killing most internet radio DJ’s ( I know MANY). The royalty rate imposed was 7 cents per 1000 listens …..That sucks big time! Internet radio rocks! It’s nice to be able to hear something besides the run-of-the-mill crap that the ratings hungry radio stations play.

YES, I actually own more legal songs than I do illegal.
As P2P apps leech more than mp3’s I confess to the artists (of porn) I own only leeched material as I will in no way purchase the filth.
To the actors, I own a fine collection of legal movies and non of illegal material.

July 3, 2002 at 4:11 am #102347shearheavenMemberHmmmm…let me be honest…lol…I too download mp3’s…I have always loved music but man…at the tip of a finger getting that long lost song from years ago, or hearing something on the radio and having to get it…With the lack of time that I have it has worked out great. Yes I own CD’s I have bought…and still do occasionaly but I think it’s awesome to be able in this day and age to get music this way. I also find it very hard to believe that the music industry is hurting over this…lol…And another thing. I have CD’s that I have bought years ago with at least 15-16 songs…Hmmmmmm…not anymore…Ones I have checked out to BUY are only about 10 songs on them. Whats with that?…lol…I do know they varey but come on…Think they could fit a few more songs on them?…Anywho…my 2 cents worth…:)

Secondly – the “struggling” music business and copyrighting. The cost of a CD is about £0.2. A new CD sells in a shop for about £14 in the UK. The £13.80 difference is eaten up by distributors, retailers, advertising, marketing, branding, with a small bit going to the artistes themselves.
So, if people think they can save about £12 by taking music via P2P (assumption=still costs about £2 to burn your CD – price of CD, electricity, wear and tear, hassle etc) they will. Call it human nature, the laws of supply and demand, way of the world, whatever. The music businesses attempts to stop P2P are futile (someone will always come up with a new way of beating the system).
What they need to do (and are trying to avoid) is recognise that the market they are selling in has changed forever and adapt to this new environment. Adapt how – very simple. Cut their costs and hence CD prices to a level that the hassle involved in using P2P is no longer worth it for the average person – once this was done it would revert to being the small realm of techies and net geeks.
Similar things have happened in other industries due to the impact of technology and always have – the emergence of railways killed off the use of canals for freight transport, internet only banks have forced traditional banks to change their ways…..not to mention the whole cassettes and videotapes thing……

the god of botsAugust 12, 2002 at 4:40 am #102346melneeMemberI have been using the one called WinMX it works pretty good. Sorry to say it but yes, I do grab some good songs. I buy alot too, though. I love having a CD with all my favorites on it and from different artists. When I buy a CD sometimes, there will only be 2 or 3 songs I like, and when I make it, its 15 great songs I love. But, I do normally just buy one, cause it is easier, quicker, and less time than downloading, and making it myself. hmmmm, guess I am a bit lazy or somethin….
We never lose the ones we love, we lose the person, but love never dies. 🙂
