ParticipantSecadmirer_1998 – I used http://www.freeservers.com/cgi-bin/feedback?option=report_a_violation to report the site you had included as a link in your previous post. They have since emailed me and the site has been removed.

MemberYou could find out who hosts the site in a few ways,
If the site is a free one, it likely to be a subdomain, or folder, such as geocities.com/someone or myname.tripod.com
You also get people who use .tk domain names or their own domain names, which just point to some free space, you can usually just hover over a link to see the real host.
If it is their own rented space, you could do a whois from many domain registrars, then look at nameservers etc… also ping the domain name, and see what the IP is, many people host on virtual hosts, i.e. many people on one server, and one IP.
You would never successfully prosecute someone for booting you a few times. It would not be harassment, as it would most likely be a random attack, and the person peforming the attack would be untraceable.
I have found that websites offering boot programs etc… are very helpful when it comes to asking for them to remove offending material. Free hosts will almost certainly remove instantly, whereas other hosts leave it to their clients to make the decision, making it clear all losses are claimed from them.
There is no such thing as internet law, and when one believes something has done something illegal, you could make your case in a number of countries, your own, their country, or even the country in which the server is based.
Many people also falsely claim harassment. I know about this from a very recent experience. I had to deal with a mentally unstable user who claimed harassment, they even claimed I followed them here to harass them. Sign up dates proved they were wrong, but they also claimed I harass them in chat rooms, by following them etc… It’s cases like this which would make it difficult to ever bring a successful case against people on the net.

MemberThat law only affects peoples private information. That disclaimer is bullcrap:
Federal privacy laws don’t serve to provide those who break laws in the on-line world with protection from prosecution should their illegal cyber-activities be uncovered by law enforcement officials visiting their web sites.

MemberHello Folks! I am sorry that it took so long to get back with the tutorial that I promised but here it is.
http://www.blackhatdesign.com/traceroute/
If you find a site that you feel is not within the guidelines of the law or the web host’s acceptable use policy, ask the web host to remove it.
Be polite and address your concerns clearly and the web host should be more than happy to comply with your request.
Happy Hunting
