First of all, I’d like to say that this is a very interesting Forum. I’ve been online for several years, and have spent a great deal of time in Yahoo Help Rooms over the past 2 years…I can’t imagine how I missed this place until today.
Now, more on-topic….I think whatever we can do to stop malicious activity is time & effort well spent. Black Hat has provided some excellent information, which I certainly think worthy of reproduction. Tell all your friends in chat, and get off your butt & do something !

just wanting to add another side to this multi faceted argument..take away the target and theres nothing to hit..i use ymlite in dhtml mode,and after 6 months I have yet to be booted..the way I figure it is if more people would get out of messenger chat and use a client they will have the same functionality but without the boots,and the script kiddies will have to learn to hack for real instead of stealing code and enhancing it..(instead of figuring out why your pinto wont run just go get a new camaro and get it over with..just a thought
alot of sites are hosting there web pages off there computer and not on a pay server.and the 1s that are useing a pay server are not hard to shut down but why try to? thay will just move there domain name to a diff server to host it. for ever1 you take out there is 3 new 1s to replace it. your trying to fight a never ending war on booters. the real problem is in yahoo not fixing the problems of people getting booted!!! and the only real fix for any chat user is try an anti boot program and then lmao when thay try to boot u
Please help me. I don’t know how to lose this bot guy who keeps booting me and spamming me with bots in Yahoo messenger. He’s harassing the heck out of me and I need to find out how to hunt him down!

Your post does not belong here. All issues of how to deal with booters are covered in the Yahoo! FAQ. We will not help you track him down.

These steps mr. blackhat suggested will not do anything, except make enemies, which he and mr simpson have done a great job at.

Have we seen a stop or even a moments pause in booting? have we seen a stop in booter sites?
No.
There will always be booters/exploits etc.
I whole heartedly agree w/ what mdande said, for every one shut down, another three will pop up.
Ya, so what some kiddy thinks hes king sh*t that he has a booter.
Let him believe so, hes probably just some pimple faced kid, that has no friends, nor a life. And will probably remain that way.
Booting/Punting what ever you care to call it, has been around a long time. And I personally believe it will be around for as long as Instant Messaging will be.
The real, true benefits of booters, are to make a chat client more secure and more stable.
If yahoo had a more pro-active stance on security and patching, then
You would most likely barely feel the booters.
Because they would get patched within a week.
And since generally most boots, are now server side boots,
The patch time should be a lot less.
But this is coming from a company, that untill recently didnt even have a
security devision.
Don’t blame the kids for using booters nor the creators,, kids will be kids.
I personally wouldnt care if I got booted, no big whoop.
Its oh so hard to just sign on a different name… lol
But that of course is my two cents.
Furthermore, since I have created booters, and I am not blameless in
contributing to the “booting scene.” take my two cents as you will.
Booters have both good, and terrible qualities..

I agree. There isn’t any stopping the Booter’s, Yes you can slow them down, but once they find you all they will do is go at you alot worse and not too mention, drag every known booter god wannabe into it till you cant even mention your name in chat, LOL. Anyways personally it doesn’t matter to me that the sites stay up, in fact I have my own client and have given it to many people, and it hasn’t been booted yet and look sand feels just like messenger. What I get from the booter sites is code from these booter’s so that I can update my code every once in awhile to block em even better. So in truth the booter sites have helped me greatly, not too mention honestly some of your best programmer’s are some of the booter creators, they just tend to create bad instead of good, but by studying their codes and what have you I have learned a great deal about how yahoo works. So I guess to each his own, if you want to close the sites down so be it, but just remember the very best of them will never be shut down. People have tried and as of yet there has not been one day I have ever seen them down, not too mention Some of your very well known Programming sites post code every day to teach the ( woohoo I just downloaded visual basic and i’m gonna be a programmer !!) kids out there.

You CAnt Stop booting, cracking…etc… you wont get sites shut down if you do they will have it backed up and ready to go on another host or host themselves on thier computer…i dont see why you bother, your wasting as much time in your life trying to shut them down then they are wasting booting people. your just as bad 🙂 and that my friend is tru. booting and stuff..is not a big deal, use Java you wont be booted…sheesh. Oreo, they are called “advertisments” and they pop up. It does not redirect. Clown.Boy, I will say that it is worth the effort, true the sites will be back, but after 2-3 years max they realize how dumb it is and usually close down :p. Oh and I just looked at Clown.Boys’ profile it contains a link to a website with profanity! OH NO! Funny you didn’t change that but you guys are all over me.
I’m not a moron and I know what pop-ups are that was not a pop-up. Do you know what stepping over the lines of decency and respect are? (<—That's a rhetorical question.) And as others have reminded you, YOU are not a moderator. And just so you know…you are not the focus of any of the moderators lives…don't give yourself that importance…we're here to keep this site clean and free from people who don't quite get the picture. We're doing our jobs as moderators. You can either stick with the thread, use your knowledge to help and not belittle the rest of the community here and cut out the rest…or we can continue like this.
I know, but, seriously, there is no redirect. Click view/source, NO REDIRECT. There are apparently 2 pop-ups though from that free hosting they were on. Maybe it was changed at the time you viewed who knows. And yes, I know I am not a moderator. But I will be when me and my buddies start our own forums that don’t ban sites after they clean up their content as asked *cough*. I wasn’t trying to do anything malicious which it looks to me as if you thought so by the “redirect”. We will continue like this until my website is unbanned, as Jeff said he would consider if I cleaned up the content which I did but never got an e-mail back. Seems like AOL may have been your servers IP, not sure. You can e-mail me at [email]admin@(mydomain.com[/email] which has been banned). Anyway, back to the topic, you can’t stop booter sites, but you can (virtually) stop booting, at least on Yahoo!. There are several ways of stopping it, as mentioned in other posts, like using an alternative 3rd party chat client that uses Yahoos’ servers but is different software so it won’t be booted (most of the time).
