The fonts seem a little BIG for my liking. Using Firefox v3.1 beta 2.
I’m assuming you’re talking about the forums. Make sure you’re using the BBB09 design (you can choose it from the style chooser at the bottom of the page). I still have a lot to do on the forums; mostly I’ve just (partially) integrated the header. I don’t like having multiple navbars, so I’ll probably integrate the main forum menus under the Forum menu — not sure yet on that.

I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m used to sites displaying one main page with articles co-mingled together (sort of like how it is right now).
OK, so I was trying to make arguments against how it’s being displayed, and it’s looking like there is an exact if not more articles being shown on the home page.
I think it’s just right now, there isn’t really any “real” stories being shown, which is kinda distracting.
I’m thinking it’ll be fine once the real stories are published.
Um, actually there ARE real stories being shown. I posted four new ones in the past week:- Truphone Adds AIM to its iPhone App
- Twitter Raises Another $35 Million
- Nokia Adds Skype to its Smartphones
- and Yammer Adds RSS Feeds to Your Company Stream]Yammer adds RSS feeds to their enterprise microblogging system | BigBlueBall
I’ve also fleshed out some of the “placeholder” articles that were there. Were you expecting something else? Could you give me some examples?

The forums are nicely integrated with the new site and the BBBv09 skin.
I REALLY like the default colours being used right now. With a little bit of tweaking of the purples.. it would look nice. Are you planning on keeping it like that?
I’m planning on making it look more like the blog.bigblueball.com design, and have only just begun tweaking the forum theme.
@detn8r 235688 wrote:So far, really the only design flaw is the user profile.
Haven’t even looked at that yet, but I’m getting there. 😉
@detn8r 235688 wrote:And also, are you going to center the page, or leave it docked to the left? If your not going to use a side bar with info (like currently on BBB) I think design wise, it would maximize unused space.
Yes, it will be centered, just like the “main” site. I was planning to restructure the forums so it would retain the sidebar. I might create a second theme that would go full-width (as it does currently).

MemberI want to thank everyone for taking a look around and commenting. I saw a lot of you had been in for a look. Please feel free to share the link with friends and family and ask them to share their comments.
Last night I made some more additions, though mainly focusing on content.
- Five Steps to Internet Security – Originally written by Dave Amenta; I’ve asked him to look it over and see if it needs updating.
- Latest IM Versions – I asked and received good feedback on this, and spent most of my time working on it. Conceptually, I’d like to create “overview” pages for each of these IM programs (I”ve got a few already, although they are pretty “dusty”). Please look at the current examples and let me know if you’d like to author one.
- Instan-T Overview – Published long ago and migrated from the live site. I’ll ask them to review for an update.
- Introducing Miranda – another overview page from the current site that probably needs updating.
- The Lifestream Goes Mainstream – a NEW news article about yesterday’s Bebo announcement
- BeeJive IM Now on Blackberry – A NEW press release about BeeJive IM for the Blackberry (in the mobile tech category)
- I increased the number of articles that appears on the front page to FIVE per category. The Mobile Tech category is currently only showing 3, but that’s because there are only three posts in that category. 🙂
- I also made the first update to the “latest version” page (Yahoo Messenger). Thanks Ven0m!
I may be on here and there today, but tonight I will be working offline. I’m printing out the templates for the user profiles in the new forums and sorting out what I need to change to get things working properly in there.
Meanwhile, spread the word, and check out the latest updates. 🙂

ParticipantJeff – This is a lot of hard work I know – but it definitely looks really good so far!!

ModeratorOK, one thing I’ve noticed (and this could be my browser’s fault, I’m running IE8 RC1) is that when I close the BBBlog tab, several Internet Explorer script error windows appear. This is odd considering that I’ve disabled script debugging in IE8. Nevertheless, thought you might like to know.
I opened up and closed the BBBlog tab in Apple’s Safari 4 Beta and all was well. The home page is rockin’, if I may say so!

I’ve been testing the site in Chrome (my main browser), Safari, IE8, Firefox and Flock. It seems to work fine in everything, but I also am having seeing some script errors in IE8:
This is on the homepage. Everything seems to WORK fine (almost) but the little yellow triangle appears in the status bar. NOTE: This is likely due to the fact that I just tested from here at work (behind a corporate firewall that blocks sites like wordpress.com and all Google ads). I’ll test again tonight from home.
The more glaring issue on IE8 is that as you rollover the menus, they aren’t reverting back to their “normal” color when you roll off. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; .NET CLR 3.5.21022; InfoPath.2; SLCC1)

ParticipantBut if you take a look at my screenshot attached is that how far the option box should appear from each? I would think it should show up right under and not further away from it. Or is this how it should be?

I’ve also noticed that once you do click a menu and try to move your mouse over to it, you may hover over a different menu, and you automatically end up opening that too, and it opens up all over the place.

MemberWhat browser are you guys using so I can test this?

ParticipantI notice the same thing in mine Jeff, and I’m using Chrome. It only happens on Community and Quick Links on mine. Search seems to be OK.
I looked at the source on the page. I can’t find the link to the stylesheet that determines class=”vbmenu_popup”but it’s looks to be something to do with the CSS attributes on that. The problem is that all the popup menus with this class seem to be right justifying based the width of the widest one (which is Search). If the justify was left it might work better.
If you can find the stylesheet that calls the class I’ll take a look and see if I can figure out what the problem is for you if you’d like. I’d just need a link where I could take a look at the CSS.

MemberThanks Doris! There are several style sheets. Here they are in the order in which they load:
This is actually the default for the homepage, but is also used on the forums to handle the header/footer stuff
https://bigblueball.com/wp-content/themes/lifestyle_30/style.cssThese two are loaded by vBulletin
https://bigblueball.com/forums/clientscript/vbulletin_css/style-18b337ca-00022.css
https://bigblueball.com/forums/clientscript/vbulletin_important.css?v=381The middle one is the “main” CSS file for the forums, and most likely where the menus are styled. It’s also quite possible that there is a conflict between the WordPress style sheet and vBulletin.
Let me know if you see anything obvious.

ParticipantOK. After some seriously intense and intimate fun with HTML on the page I choose, it all boils down (from what I can see and recreate) to where the the first “div id” after the initial BODY tag.
Hopefully you still have a sandbox set up to play with. I can make it work on a single edited page but you’ll want to be sure it works across all the pages.
Find:

Remove the

See what happens. When I did it, and then tested in both my HTML editor and IE I was able to get the drop downs right under the heading.
If anyone else wants to take a page, copy the source and try it to be sure it would be most appreciated!!
