MemberI’m having the same problem. MSN 6 opens at first, but then suddenly the program just disappears from the screen. The icon is left on the taskbar, however when I go to click on it, that too disappears. An earlier version of MSN works on here, but this just wont… The platform is windows xp…

It seems like you have found a bug. 🙂
The reason that the MSN icon doesn’t disappear from the taskbar is because the system tray contents (right part of the taskbar, left of the clock) are not managed by Windows itself, but by the programs you run.
In other words, when you sign in to MSN Messenger the client crashes immediatly and is thus unable to remove itself from the taskbar. Then, when you move your mouse over the icon, Windows finds that the program has crashed and removes the icon.
Unless someone has experienced this problem too in the past and solved it, I doubt we will be able to help you since this is either an undiscovered bug in MSN Messenger or a compatibility problem on your system.
Either way, you should inform Microsoft of the problems you are experiencing, which can be done via their website. When filling in your support request, try to provide as much information as possible, such as the complete version number of the MSN Messenger client and your Windows version.
Meanwhile, your best bet would be to install all the latest updates available for your operating system from the Windows Update website.

ParticipantAre you running MSN right when windows starts? Where Windows automatically will start MSN and you only have to click “Sign In”?
Have you tried deleting the registry key and reinstalling?

MemberYea, tried deleting that, didn’t work. Windows runs MSN on startup, sometimes it will even sign in, but then is just closes…

As I said, unless someone experienced the same problem and fixed it, I doubt anyone here can help you. Your best bet is to follow the instructions in my last post for reporting your problem to Microsoft. You could also try doing a Google search for your problem.
