To answer Spike’s point re ISP’s upload limits:
We don’t see this as being an issue. This measure was designed by ISPs to conserve their bandwidth and to prohibit commercial use of home broadband connections (as they charge more for commercial bandwidth). Therefore most home ISPs prohibit the use of a home connection for commercial use, but using izimi doesn’t constitute commercial use. In any case, more and more technologies (such as P2P, IM, VoIP) are demanding an always-on internet connection and the transmission of data up and down the connection, even while the user is not sitting in front of their machine. This is driving the infrastructure providers to have to provide for this market, so more and more ISPs will relax these conditions. John Wood, izimi – Self publish

First, from a security standpoint, you better know what you’re doing, otherwise any kind of high profile article you publish could land you in some trouble. Network security isn’t something that is as easy as letting your router sit between you and the internet, there is far more to deal with when you’re talking about providing content externally.
Security, Resources and Terms of Service violations aside, Izimi will not work for what you want, so stop plugging your software johnalexwood. Izimi will host content, with descriptions, it will not (from any technical information provided on the website) support PHP and mySql. If you want to host a website, use a more robust solution like apache or, if you have access to the proper software, IIS. Even a simple webserver that supports CGI executables would be fine, but there is no need for Izimi.

update: I’ve updated my promo code for anyone interested in Dreamhost. The code is now TIGER_BBB, and I’ve upped the discount. With the exception of the very lowest offer (month-to-month on the Level 1 package), you’ll get a $35 discount off your bill, just for being a BBB member. If you do go with the month-to-month L1 package, you still get $25 off.
in the interest of full disclosure: yes, I do get kickback from your registration if you use my code, but the higher your discount the less I get, so the increased discount comes out of my pocket. I just like Dreamhost enough to recommend it and offer an incentive.
“Nelhost” finally quit on me, so I’m switching to Dreamhost and using your promo code. Enjoy whatever benefits you reap! 🙂
