MemberI typically install a firewall product like Norton Personal Firewall on my system. Then I tell the firewall to block access to the AOL ad web server for all applications. I believe it is ar.atwola.com. This works independently of any modifications to the application.

Memberso when you do that what will happen..like the ads will go away, but will there be a whit spot there or will the buddy list fill it in. and when you said block all aol ads will its block ALL the ads or just the ones telling you about aol for broadband and all the aol stuff there trying to sell you:rolleyes:

MemberI have a way to remove the buddy list ads. It involves editing aimres.dll. You need to get a program called Resource Hacker. You need to be sure to make a backup copy of aimres.dll in case you screw it up. Then you need to do a search for ad. It will take several finds to find it. You’ll know when you find it because it will say this:
CONTROL “93142556”, 134, “_AimAd”, 0x50002680, 57, 15, 80, 37 , 0x00010000
CONTROL “ATE”, 148, “WndAte32Class”, 0x40000000, 57, 15, 80, 37Remove that from the file. Click compile, then click file->save and your done. Oh yeah, be sure to exit AIM before messing with this. No more buddy list ads. And yes, it does merge the buddy list.

MemberYou need to go to file open in Resource Hacker and open aimres.dll, it should be in C:Program FilesAIM or C:Program FilesAIM95 or wherever you installed AIM. Then just do a search for ad (using CTRL-F, the find feature), until you find the line of code I showed you.

MemberI just want to point out WooHooAdime, that the reason the ad was not blocked when you got aim+ was because it no longer entirely functions with AIM 5.x This disables some of Aim+’s features and Ad-removal is one of them.
What works with AIM 5.x:
AIM+ Menu in IM/Chat Windows
Cloning
History Logging
Transparent IM/Chat WindowsWhat doesn’t work with AIM 5.x:
+ Menu on Buddy List
Ad Removal[/b]
AIM+ Menu in AIM icon on Buddy List
Clones Have No Sounds
Hide General / Buddy List Button Rows
History Viewer with 5.x Logs
Supress AIM Today window
Transparent Buddy List Window

MemberThis also works for the new beta version 5.5.3415. It even works a little better. No big empty spaces, even when you set it to away.

Memberok so in reality deadaim is dead and aim+ sux from what i see so the only worth program now is aimutation or of course jsut having deadaim with the old aim and never upgrading….
y cant someone like buy the old source code from deadaim and continue it independentlyOctober 12, 2003 at 4:35 pm #91658restless311
MemberGet the new aim beta and use Resource Hacker. Get rid of the ads and brings up the buddy list. The beta is pretty good so far. When someone signs on it does like MSN(brings up the little window in the corner).
