MemberWhat edgeblade69 said do works with the aim 5.2,beta 5.5 and i took the guess work out by posting where to find the line of code. If you want the ads gone, the instuctions are on this page.
And it’s more work installing aim than removing the ads.

MemberQuote:quote:I have a way to remove the buddy list ads. It involves editing aimres.dll. You need to get a program called Resource Hacker. You need to be sure to make a backup copy of aimres.dll in case you screw it up. Then you need to do a search for ad. It will take several finds to find it. You’ll know when you find it because it will say this:CONTROL “93142556”, 134, “_AimAd”, 0x50002680, 57, 15, 80, 37 , 0x00010000
CONTROL “ATE”, 148, “WndAte32Class”, 0x40000000, 57, 15, 80, 37Remove that from the file. Click compile, then click file->save and your done. Oh yeah, be sure to exit AIM before messing with this. No more buddy list ads. And yes, it does merge the buddy list.
In Resource Hacker:
Dialog – 323

MemberI joined specifically to ask this question. 🙂
I did the Aimres.dll hack to remove the ads and ad space, and it works great. However, there is a complication: now, DeadAim will not load.
When using DeadAim, it does not remove completely the ad box at the top of the Buddy List. However, I get all the features of DeadAim, so that is a good thing. If I perform the Aimres.dll mod, it removes completely the ad space; however, now DeadAim won’t load! Does anyone know why this is the case, and, if possible, how to rectify the situation?
I am using AIM version 5.5.3598, which is my favorite version.
So, to summarize: does anyone know why DeadAim refuses to load when using the Aimres.dll hack as posted in this thread, and if possible, how to make the two live together in peace?
