I know BBB isn’t big on emoticons, but where is a “sleeping” or “bored” emoticon?
It is a bit silly having to type out “zzzzzzz” every time I want to say something was boring enough to put me to sleep.
How about adding a “bored/sleeping” emoticon, or replacing that “stick out tongue” (what exactly is that thing supposed to represent anyway) with a “bored/sleeping” emoticon?
August 6, 2006 at 4:41 pm #150008PolarBearNPRParticipantAnd how about a Welcome emoticon? It could be a cup of steaming coffee (or tea or cocoa if you like). I’m trying to come up with some typing that looks like a cup . . . any ideas? So far I’ve got cU and c(_) but am not really happy with either.
August 6, 2006 at 4:54 pm #149980SpikeMemberYou know, we aren’t supposed to have an emoticon for everything. Too many of them can get annoying. I hate to be so negative, but I think our emotes are fine just the way they are. If you find an image from another site, an emote that you like, just link to it with [noparse][/noparse] tags, we don’t need to add loads new emotes to the site.

Geez, Spike, you teach me something new every day. Now let’s see if I can do that!
Heh! Cool! Thanks!

Also, why did you enclose your image tags with noparse tags? Why was the noparse tag necessary when there was no information in between the image tags?
August 7, 2006 at 4:19 pm #150010PolarBearNPRParticipantWere you asking me about the noparse tag? I just copied and pasted the stuff without knowing what I was copying. Is the noparse thing an issue? I don’t even know what that is.
I’m such a newb 😮

August 7, 2006 at 8:07 pm #149981SpikeMember… Of course I’m going to enclose it in Noparse tags, otherwise you wouldn’t even be able to see what I’m talking about! How in the hell did you even know I used those, they don’t show up for me.
With noparse:
emote that you like, just link to it with [noparse][/noparse] tags, we don’t needWithout:
emote that you like, just link to it with tags, we don’t needAnd it’s not considered bandwith theft, just do what Hurricane said and host it.
August 7, 2006 at 9:23 pm #149969detn8rParticipantPERHAPS Jeff could host certain smilies if they were submitted, instead of someone hosting them on a third-party webhost that could run the risk of being deleted if you only used it to host a few smilies and nothing else?
Anyways, I came acorss an awesome list if you DID want to host them on something like Photobucket(.com).

Then I clicked on the (switch editor mode) button on the top right corner and all your tags (including the noparse tag) show up!!! 😀
Geee!!!! It’s nice that I knew something you didn’t!!! I almost feel smart!!!! 😎
Thanks for explaining what noparse tags are for… duh I feel stupid for not figuring out they’re needed to show the other tags!
I am certain that linking to an image on anyone else’s site is bandwidth theft. At least that is what almost every site I go to says. There are usually big warnings not to link to images on their site. They tell you to download and save your own copy of the image!
PolarBearNPR – not to worry I’m such a newb too:o
August 8, 2006 at 12:15 pm #149975TigerbladeParticipantholy crap, detn8r. that’s way too many smilies. personally, i barely even use the most basic ones. standard smile, tongue out, maybe the slanty-face one. that’s about it.
do we really need to use emotes for everything? sometimes text can work just as well… like for your “sleeping or bored” one, just put something like ::yawn::
August 8, 2006 at 12:23 pm #150003Tea GrannyMemberI didn’t realize this was going to be a huge issue. I just thought Jeff had seleced a few of the basic emotions and had neglected to include one of the most basic emot’s. I wasn’t suggesting to heap a hole pile on the list. I just thought some of the basics were missing!
August 8, 2006 at 12:32 pm #149976TigerbladeParticipantwell, we have “sick”, “stick out tongue”, “wink”, “crying”, “big grin”, “w00t”, “embarrassment”, “frown”, “smile”, “confused”, “mad”, “roll eyes (sarcastic)”, “cool”, and “EEK!”
i’d say that covers a sufficient range of emotions; anything else can just be represented textually. actually, were it up to me, i’d remove them all except for :D,:(,:p,;) and 😮
August 9, 2006 at 4:52 am #149982SpikeMemberRight, like Tigerblade has already said, we have enough to cover the majority of smiley needs. I really don’t want any more than the basic ones (especially ugly ones like yours det, no offense, they don’t flow with the site like our current ones do), anyway.
Tea Granny, it is NOT bandwith theft if you use ImageShack or Photobucket. That’s what those sites were meant for, linking to images. Trust me whwn I say it: It is NOT bandwith theft. Also, there isn’t a big smiley list Jeff neglected to turn on or anything, the ones you see here are all of the ones that come with vBulletin (I think the images are a bit different, though). I say we don’t touch the smileys, we have enough as it is.
August 9, 2006 at 6:41 pm #149992MrEggsaladParticipantOk, well I made a “Smiler” type thing. It has some smiles I made (like coffee, welcome, bored, sleeping) and the code to use it here. You will want to have it open in a new window since it auto-resizes to the correct size. I will add more smiles as time goes on, but yeah. They are all freely hosted thanks to ImageShack, so don’t worry about using up my bandwidth. Have Fun With It!
