Do you have solution for this problem?Does it mean the port 1863 is blocked?
It seems to me all these methods does not help everythere.
Many companies disable *.hotmail.com at their firewall and even if you use IP address – firewall does a lookup and check for a domain name.So, there is no way in these cases rather then web-based MSN solutions…
Fortunatelly there are several of them and you can choose the one you like more. Of course they can not be so comfortable like a desktop MSN version, but at least it’s the way to communicate.
Try http://www.msnger.com – it’s very simple, but works fast.
Or use google and find another one you like.Probably a PANIC ATTACK, but I went to the site Bezel (“1 posts”) mentions, typed in my address and password. Then NOTHING happened. And then I thought what a fool I’d been for giving my password to a non-existent website. Reminded me of that PayPal scam (“Please re-enter your Visa details, etc.”) that’s been doing the rounds.
Quickly changed my password just in case. I daresay http://www.msnger.com is a bona fide site and I daresay I was panicking unnecessarily. That said, can’t find anything about them on the Net…

I’m not agree with last post.
It’s not a “fake” site. You probably got some network or may be internal server problem.
There are a lot of people using this server and it’s absolutely fine.
Of course nobody guarantee the server itself does not collect your information…But you can create a new dummy passport/hotmail account and check this site without a risk to your own hotmail box – it really does MSN messenger job…
P.S. just do no want to look like I try to scam somebody here!

MSN messenger hooked up directly to my cable modem – works fine
connects directly to the internetMSN messenger hooked up to my DI-604 router – under tools – options – connections I get “connected to the internet through a non UPnP restricted NAT, administrator
I’ve tried all the fixes mentioned here, I’ve tried opening ports on my router and within windows firewall.
Would a new router fix this?

Ive tried doin theClick on Start –> Run
Type in “regedit” and then click OK (without the ” )Navigate through the registry editor to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMSNMessengerSelect the “Server” key, Right click, and select “Modify”
Change the value data to:
gateway.messenger.hotmail.com:80thing, but my MSN (6.2) still wont work coz of my stupid Zone Alarm

I’m back, sadly I got stupid and bought a switch instead of a router and when I realized only one computer at time could get on, well:o
So I will be more careful…..Linksys didn’t fix it, nice router, but no fix even though there web site aknowledges it has a problem and the INDIA support claims to be able to fix it. They can’t.
Back to square one and where are you great fixer as Linus would say on Halloween.:(
More humble this time
Okay. I don’t understand. I tried your changes at home as a test and it worked just fine. I try it here (school) and it doesn’t work. There is no Server value. Could it possibly be due to the operating systems? At home I’m running XP and school they are running 98. So maybe the operating systems in the old days didn’t need that deep of a configuration to connect onto hotmail.
oops, that solution doesn’t work! I couldn’t find “server” and I went through the right path for sure (i often use regedit to edit my registry)
are there any other solutions?i used the registry change to fix the problem then I upgraded to MSN beta and now it doesn’t work again but the registry vaue hasnt changed. help
Well, I must be among those who can’t get it up (MSN Msgr) no matter what I try. I wrote MSN Msgr Support 3 times; twice they gave me instructions similar to those throughout this board… I even asked for hands-on “remote assistance” by the Support people – nothing is happening yet. I think MSN Msgr folks made big boo-boo somewhere along the line and are trying frantically to come up with a fix… but not admitting their shortcomings, as usual. I suspect some very smart techie will come up with the correct answer and MSN will take credit for it. Good luck, you all.
