MemberG’day
Talking Messenger on Win98. That’s 98 not 98(SE)! Well I have it up and working!
I followed the instructions from the http://www.talkingmessenger.com website. Basically I installed the VB6 Runtime files and then the Seventy Meg Speech Development Kit SDK5.1 from Microsoft.
After which the talking Messenger works fine … as intended.

Like the talking messenger website said … this process is unsupported.
By the way … SDK5.1 (which is primarily a speech developers tool – but incidentally incorporates the Speech Application Interface 5 SAPI5 software) comes with this cool DictPad which is able to convert one’s spoken words to text ….

… paste these links in your browser …

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/vbrun60sp3.exe
http://www.microsoft.com/speech/download/sdk51/tip – the 70Meg SDK5.1 download can take five or six hours on a dial-up modem … get a pal with broadband to download it for you
I’d be interested to hear from anyone who can provide help on the previous posters question of registration.
