I don’t think it was suppossed to be a horrror movie at any point, more a tense movie, I liked the end, it gives a whole meaning to it (that is, if you actually questioned yourself during it).I have to agree with sciencefeeling on this one. It was a suspense film, not a horror. And whoever the marketing campaign was on this one needs to be shot. Of course the same thing happened with The Day After Tomorrow. Everyone thought it was gonna be this giant action flick cuz it was by the guys that did ID4. That wasn’t the point of the movie. It wasn’t supposed to be an action flick, it was supposed to make you think.

I’ve always wanted to see it, but always put it back on the shelf when I wanted to rent it, b/c I never had enough money to pay for it. You know, something else always looked more interesting.
Right, okay…so I finally watched The Village today. At first I put it on and was like “WTF, this movie is weird!” But as it went on, I started to really like it.
Whoever said that the elders met in some kind of counseling group in NY after some of their loved ones were killed, how did you know that? Did they mention it in the movie? If so, it must have been mentioned when I got up to answer the door.
Great movie though!

Great movie though!I agree… When I first put it in I thought it was just, stupid… But then it got better. I liked it… 🙂 I agree with the critics that it is a “thriller” 😀
April 10, 2005 at 11:42 am #75095Jeff HesterKeymasterI saw it and didn’t like it at all. I didn’t think much of it or that it was a thriller. I guess I was expecting more and yes the ending did make it even worse for me. It just wasn’t my type of movie.

April 10, 2005 at 10:57 pm #75107RabidKittenParticipantUgh, it was a good movie all the way up until the ending. Not great, but alright, nothing I’d want to buy. But really, the ‘twist’ (If you want to call it that) was really the last straw for me. The only good thing about it was the fact that M.Night pulled through and made his little appearance. More obvious than Hitchcock was, but hey, still fun to catch what part he’s playing in each of his movies.
Of course, my roomate on the other hand thought it was great, and a couple days later he said to me “Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more and more it pissed me off. I feckin’ hate that movie”. Heh…funny how some reflection can change your view drastically.
Anyway, Rae, they mentioned they were in therepy when one of them opened up the big black box in their houses and showed the newspaper clipping. It wasn’t blatently stated, but the voice overs pretty much suggested it.

But when the studio release the movie they change the premise of the movie from a political satire to a thriller for political correctness. The premise of the movie is that there was a group of people who were tired of how mordern man has destoryed the earth. So they create this old fashion village from the 1890s. The creature in the movie is morden day man aka a park ranger. Their afraid of modern man and it’s ways. So that explains the real premise of the movie.
