MemberThere’s been a lot of talk again recently about adding some TV talk to this section. So let’s do it. I thought I’d start off with a favourite programme of mine, Father Ted [/b]. Some of you may not be familiar with this show…if you aren’t I SERIOUSLY suggest you check your local, public library for the DVD’s of this show. It is SO funny! It’s run is actually over with the unfortunate and untimely death of the actor (Dermot Morgan) who played the title character “Father Ted.” To give you a short and not nearly accurate enough idea of the show; it’s about three priests and their house keeper. They are stuck on an almost COMPLETELY isolated island odd the West coast of Ireland called “Craiggy Island.” Each of the priests has been sent there because of some reason that they are unfit to be priests in the mainstream world.
Those of you who are familiar with the show know that it’s fecking awesome! So, let’s hear about some of your favourite episodes. Some of mine are “My Lovely Horse” and the one where they go on holiday to another priest’s caravan. π
EDIT:
I forgot to mention this was only on in Great Britain and Ireland. So if you don’t live in those areas…you should still try to find the episodes on DVD. Here is a link that will give you an idea of some of the shows.

MemberHeh! Father Ted is one of my favourite comedies. My favourite episode is, New Jack City. You know, the one with the hairy hands..had me in stitches all the way through it.
I quite like the two episodes which climax in Ted kicking Bishop Brennen up the (can’t post the final word as it’s against forum policies, but regular viewers will know what I mean.)

MemberThose two are great as well! I love the part in “New Jack City” where the other priest comes in and is playing all of that music! And the kicking Bishop Brennan one is CLASSIC! How about the one with the rabbits?? HEEE HEE HEE HEE!!! I can’t stop laughing and smiling when I think about this show. Can you believe they wanted to make an “American” version of this? I just don’t think it would work.

MemberThey wanted to make an American version? I didn’t know that…
I don’t think it’d work though, I think the Irishness makes Father Ted what it is. (No disrespect to any Irish people here.)
The closest Ted came to being American was the final episode, ‘Going To America’. Did you know Dermot Morgan (the guy who plays Ted) died after they filmed this final episode. He suffered a heart attack during the party afterwards.

MemberYeah, it’s really sad. He seemed like a really nice guy and the show was really taking off at that point. Apparently nobody saw the heart attack coming. π

Exactly, I can’t see how it would work at all. There is something about the setting and the actors they had that made that show magic. I really encourage others to watch it…it’s SO funny. Have you seen the Christmas episode??

MemberYay!!! All hail father ted!!
this is a seriously funny program, and i’d advise all you people unfortunate enough not to have seen it to try and watch them as soon as possible.
My favourite episode was the one where the three bishops visited to bless the sacred stone or whatever it was… the scene where they all leave cracks me up every time.
Saying that though they are all funny…
Quote:quote: I forgot to mention this was only on in Great Britain and Irelandi’m suprised that this program has yet to be exported… they are such classics… there should be endless re-runs of them on odd satellite channels!!

MemberChristmas episode…yeah, lol. Where Mrs Doyle keeps falling through the window? Is that the one? It’s excellent. I’ve got to agree with you and encourage others to watch it.
Oh, Crazy Penguin, its the Holy Stone Of Clonrichert. π

MemberFather Ted Is feckin great. What about the episode where they each give up something for lent? Doogle gives up skateboarding and Father Jack gives up drink (against his will). His first line when he sobers up is fantastic…
*Points at wall* Wall! *Points at floor* Floor! *points at Ted* Gobs***e!
Quote:quote:Indeed…that’s when Father Jack was actually expanding his vocabulary…”YES” & “That would be an ecumenical matter”That episode is great. Especially…
Are they looking after you Father? That would be a ecumeni… *ted nudges him* YES!Another Classic is where Father Jack “dies” from overdosing on Toilet duck. Brilliant comedy! π

MemberI don’t remember if this was the same one or not…but Father Jack was out of it (I think he might have actually been sober)…and everything looked really strange people’s hands were bigger and different colours… It was so funny. I was listening to the comment track on the DVD and they were mentioning that when they were writing who they thought would appeal to what group. They mentioned that since they didn’t swear much, kids liked the show. They figured their favourite character would be Dougal, but it ended up to be Father Jack. I know when my 9 year old nephew and 7 year old niece were watching only a few episodes…they were saying “FECK” all over the place! My sister had to explain to them that most people here in the States hadn’t seen the show and might think they were REALLY swearing….so they shouldn’t say. They were TOTALLY bummed…b/c they LOVED Father Jack.
EDIT: OH!! I just remembered another GREAT ONE….the Milkman/Speed episode. The one with the loutish milkman and he’s in the kitchen with Mrs. Doyle when Father Ted walks in and she says “Mr. (I can’t remember the name) wanted to put his huge tool in my box” and Father Ted started to get all angry…and then you see the guy has a HUGE spanner and Mrs. Doyle has a little tool box.
SECOND EDIT: After a little bit of searching I found this site which has clips and a lot of other information on Father Ted [/b] so if anyone else is interested…take a look! (I don’t think the link has anything bad or illegal…but if I’ve been duped…let me know) Father Ted Online

I MADE THE BBC!” Jumps out of Window). And then they had to hunt him down with a Tranquiliser gun. Father Jack wasn’t sober, he’d been drinking Toilet Duck again. π
