MemberFrom what I’ve been told, the text under your name is yours to be personalised.
Mind you, I haven’t tried messing around with it as I’m quite happy with my current title, but I may change it to “Microsoft MVP” sometime today :p.
Edit: Yes, the feature exists. go here and you’ll find it: https://bigblueball.com/forums/profile.php?do=editprofile
However, I’m not sure if we are “allowed” to change it as staff or the guidelines we need to follow for the user title.

KeymasterIf you can change it, you’re allowed. 🙂
Have fun with it, but remember that you set an example for the rest of the members.

ParticipantSo I guess “HUGE SPAMMER” would be a bad idea? =P

(man with a big penis)And Shmanky, you took the words right from my mouth.. if you have the option to edit it, please do.. I mean IT IS redundant to have it say it and have a badge say it. We’re supposed to be creative.. use what you have!

ParticipantThe only thing I would suggest, is that if you do change your Title, to put your role in your signature, so other members know which forums you are an advisor/mentor for. Otherwise it’s kinda hard to know what your specialty is eh?

Participanthurm… looks like I found a bug in WYSIWYG. Copying and pasting from MS Word seems to screw up something at the end of my post. Anyone else confirm?

ParticipantI agree with that, I have just put my specialty in my signature 🙂

KeymasterShifter that’s an interesting idea, however Advisor button says the same thing as the text to begin with. Doesn’t state where. Something I didn’t notice till now. In fact that’s all anyone’s defaults are, the same as their button.

ParticipantSo what your saying is everyone needs to put there speciality in there title and/or signature then. 🙂
June 5, 2005 at 2:54 am #123025Jeff Hester
KeymasterActually not the signature. Because I noticed signatures don’t always show. If you aren’t a member or aren’t signed in you don’t even see them. So it’s kind of pointless whatever you put in your signature. Unless of course you think it should only matter to those that are member of this site as to what we may do here. I don’t know, I’m not going to pretend I know what you may be thinking. Just pointing out about the signatures. Now if this option has changed and I am unaware of it, please forgive me. And please, don’t read anything into my post. I am not trying to be rude. Just pointing out something that may have been overlooked or forgotten.

KeymasterI could potentially create team-specific badges, but this would require a lot of additional usergroups (and administration). I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to spell out what section you’re an advisor for. Users can see the team information on the Forum Leaders page.
What I suggest is that instead of relying on a description in your user title or signature, that each team posts an announcement for their respective section. We have in vBulletin a very nice announcement capability that is separate from the forum posts. I haven’t really used it much, and I’m not sure who even has access to it (it’s part of the administration console). I will put together a standard “template” and then each Team Leader can work with their team to fill it out for the respective section.
Then you can have a little more fun with your title and signature, which is all for the best anyway. 🙂

Thanks Jeff. I like that idea much better.

I’ve looked several times and have not been able to find any option that lets me change mine. That’s why I put the info on my sig instead. Not that it’s a big deal or anything. Just an observation. But it is pretty annoying to see mentor, then mentor badge. *mumbles to self*

ParticipantMaybe this option is available only to Advisors and Team Leaders, so for the same reason as MiamiGuy i put my specialty in my signature.
