Did you read her last post?? She’s wondering why the Arab countries are not helping their fellow Muslims…why the insurgents in Indonesia cannot put their personal goals aside to help a country in dire straits-good questions. Many residents of these arab countries more money in the private sector than most countries have in their cofers. Yet they are not speaking up to help. And, if you have been paying attention to the news….even HERE in the States…Australia is giving far more than any other country. I may not always agree with Dee, but in this case you obviously did not read her post. As a fellow Bigblueball.com member AND a fellow countryperson; you owe her THAT much.

I see your point Oreo (and rustedtight) about this. They are good questions to ask, but i dont think they are easy questions to answer. Its possible that they have kept their donation secret (like Russia), or not made one at all. The insurgents may feel that this is a good time to attack, as the country is in so much chaos and dispair at the moment. I’m not saying that’s an excuse for them, but that could be their mentality.
I dont think its fair to say that the USA isn’t helping though or ‘doesn’t care’ though. It’s contributing what it can and so is Austrailia. If Austrailia contributes more depending on how many people live there (GDP/Capita i think it is) then the USA does, it doesn’t mean that the USA doesnt care. I have heard that Austrailia has donated a huge amount ($400 million i heard) but whatever the USA’s contribution is (i dont know, but i guess its high), it shouldn’t have to match the same amount of donation per person that Austrailia has made. There is so many other factors to this money, such as taxes for that country, recent disasters and how money is spent in that country (such as the USA in the Iraq war). You could be talking about tripling the money Austrailia donates. If it is $400 million, i cant see the USA getting $1.2 billion from somewhere to spend it on. Its too much to ask of any country.

The US has sent in troops and the like and will provide massive aid and is the largest aid giver (i think) in the entire world and even then, theres no need to attack US citizens like you did. Don’t be so arrogant and ignorant. Ignorant? arrogant? when you have reached legal seniority and can vote…. when you have a disposable income to share with unfortunate victims… until that day keep sucking your mothers breast and allow others to comment on your behalf.
Dont be a stupid ignorant dumbass that has no knowlege of your countries contribution…….. you disgust me.January 11, 2005 at 10:04 am #110017rustedtightMemberTo my American brothers and sisters…….
THANK YOU.
I understand from your posts here that you saw my original post as a national insult.
I understand from your posts here that you thought I was laying down a challenge.
I understand from your posts here that you felt I was insulting you personaly.
My original post was simply a wake up call…. a tragedy unlike anything in the modern world was playing out……. many thousands died, children left without support…….. my methods were abrasive… I accept that.
How far would you go to save a child?
To challenge any country is an insult…… I spoke only for myself and from the heart.
Collectively you responded….. 100 thousand voices thank you.
Unified we are stronger than the fractured opposition that confronts us, keep the faith.Trust in your God.

Whenever there’s major world catastrophe, we’re always the ones to run to everyone’s aid. But whenever we don’t “do our job” or should I say “stop everything and help poor little Australia when they want us too, despite the fact that we’re in a huge defecit already and your being hit by some water isn’t our first and foremost priority,” our country is ALWAYS picked on first because we “just don’t care.” Get over yourself. George Bush and our Congressman have done a damn good job handling our current situation (and I’m not a big supporter of Bush).
Dude, grow up. Dont swear any one. Her reaction is absolutely right and I dont understand why you all reacted this way. first of all let me tell u. it took USA 7 days to realize the magnitude of the problem and increase the aid. By USA i meant the government. I hv nothing against the people here.FirefoxMan wrote:We spent MILLIONS of dollars (which we don’t have) to help out the world during times of crisis… but just in case you didn’t know, thousands of men and women in our armed forces are getting gunned down everyday. We’re trying to get them home and to end the war before we start to shift ALL of our attention to your little island in the middle of the ocean… I don’t care what the world thinks either.
Thousands of men and women in the armed forced are getting gunned down due to an unjustified war. If your president can spend about a billion dollars per day for an unjustified war where Osama bin Laden is still moving around, then I guess, u still have to do some serious thinking before opening your mouth regarding this topic. Osama was the man who kill thousands of people in World Trade center, but almost everything is forgotten about him. Moreover its said that President Bush and Presidential Candidate spent millions in their Presidential Campaign. And you say that USA doesnt have money for relief operations?
Moreover, let me tell you that your armed forces are not the only ones who are getting gunned down every day. Read some Indian news website and u will read about Indian soldiers and innocent people dying every day due to terrorism in Kashmir. Our country is also in a war, which is a proxy and justified war. And we have been dealing with that problem for over a decade, not just for one year or so like USA is in. The only difference is that Bush and Co go on beating drums around the world about it and our forces fight silently without any show, without trying to prove anyone.
Moreover, I dont know about other countries, but Indian government doesnt care how much aid USA govt gives.
About the money they gave or wuld give, it still doesnt matter to me. because, India which itself was affected by the Tsunami with unofficialy 40,000 + people dead there, it still helped itself completely, and was the first and one of the only countries which helped Sri Lanka in relief and operations. And yeah, Sri Lankan President came forward to thank India specialy infront of all reporters presented there from different corners of the World. Indian Prime Minister declined any help from any countries regarding relief operations saying that they are capable of solving the problem themselves. It seems right as they not only did a good job down south but also helped countries like Sri Lanka, Indonesia and other affected countries. However, Mr Prime Minister is open for outside help regarding the rehab operations that will follow soon.
Another thing, when I was in Amsterdam on my way back here, I realized the announcer asking us to observe 2 minutes silence for the Tsunami victims, which every body observed. Moreover, there were like posters every where around the airport asking for donations and stuff for Tsunami affected people.
Later when I boarded into the plane and watched the news, I realized that the 2 minute silence was not only observed in the airport but all over Europe at the same time. I just wonder if something similar happened in USA.
And again as it was said earlier, its not how much money you give, its about how much u can help.January 11, 2005 at 1:23 pm #110054QwertyMemberrustedtight wrote:Ignorant? arrogant? when you have reached legal seniority and can vote…. when you have a disposable income to share with unfortunate victims… until that day keep sucking your mothers breast and allow others to comment on your behalf.

Your original post was the hight of arogance and ignorance. What the hell are you talking about? I do have knowledge of my countries contirbution.I infact was in east africa when the Tsunami struck and I had friends and family in other affexted areas. But i didnt come on the internet and bitch and moan because some other country donated more than mine but when I broke it down they didnt pay much at all per head and even thogh that was the governments descision I didnt insult US citizens who had no say in the matter whatsoever.
idiot.
January 11, 2005 at 2:09 pm #110021detn8rParticipantContinue the petty name calling and watch the thread die..
January 11, 2005 at 5:24 pm #110043shifterMemberOk, I think many people are taking the criticism personally, which I think is a mistake. The posts here I believe are not criticising the citizens of any certain country but instead are aimed more towards their governments. I really don’t want to see anymore personal attacks on this thread. There is no reason to be so abusive. Why tarnish your respectability with petty mud-slinging?
January 14, 2005 at 4:52 pm #110070gossipingraeMemberRustedtight, I accept your apology. As a citizen of the USA, I can personally say that I took it as an insult. Although you did not come out and say one person specifically, you generally said ALL Americans. However, you apologized, and I better understand you now. Thank you for being a mature adult.
I know that I see many, many, MANY commercials on TV that are advertised by the American Red Cross asking people to donate to relief funds. My university has a booth set up every day between noon and 4 pm and asks for donations.
I really don’t think it matters anymore about which country donates the most money, food, clothing, water, etc. What matters is that people are helping and volunteering with the means they have.
It is important that we as HUMANS come together and pray for safety, health, survival, etc. Whichever religious affiliation you choose to be…whether you pray, or light a candle, or make a wish, it’s important to keep these unfortunate people in your thoughts.
January 17, 2005 at 3:28 pm #110029xerraireMemberHow about this?
Here is a new idea…how about speaking | writing in a manner where one doesn’t have to apologize after? Just makes sense and takes perhaps a little extra time to carefully consider the words and their effects in such a forum.January 17, 2005 at 6:59 pm #110076cuteb0mberchickMemberi agree with Grae>”It is important that we as HUMANS come together and pray for safety, health, survival, etc. Whichever religious affiliation you choose to be…whether you pray, or light a candle, or make a wish, it’s important to keep these unfortunate people in your thoughts.”

Seriously, I find your reinterpretation of a simple congratulatory note, a thankyou, on behalf of a quarter of a million dead to be entertaining, if not an obscenity……. in so much as you expose your ignorance of the english language, I can only assume english is not the primary language of those who replied in this manner.
On behalf of those dead you are forgiven.
No apology can or will be made. Some posters here simply confound me……. that you seek retribution/revenge from me for what you see as a slight against your percieved national pride or perhaps your own shortcomings leading up to your Governments response (such condemnation agreed to by 80% of the western world along with the UN of which you control), only aligns you closer to the terrorists you so desperately seek to destroy…….. why react like them?
At no time were you personally attacked……… you took that upon yourself.
Perhaps it is time to reflect?
Why spend 50 million which many US posters here claimed you can not afford in aid.. on an Presidential Inauguration?
Is this not in itself an obscenity?
Is your president so afraid of his own people?
From where is the threat? Where is the nearest muslim extremist nation?Claims are made here that you bring peace to Iraq, know that as many iraqi nationals die per day under the occupation as died in a year under Sadam….. decide if this is just, decide if this represents peace. There are no WMD, why are you there?
The masses of the USA responded to the tsunami crisis when its short pocketed Government would not,……… the world has seen this and thanks the people of the USA.
Dont demand that your ass be kissed. This thread serves no further purpose, to reply may massage your own deflated ego but will simply shine a spotlight on your lack of charity in the face of the collective voice of your people.

Live with it.Subject closed. As I said before, you are a joke. If we are going to analyse what every country donates and then publicly humiliate nations and peoples, then you, friend, are a very material, self centred person. Your using big words which you don’t even know the meaning of to apear more intelligent and therefore more intimidating but really, your just embaressing yourself.
It is clear that you are just an american hating, and therefore racist, smartarse. You come from offending americans about how much their government donates, to criticising the presidential campaign (which I actually doubt 50million was spent on the inauguration) to Iraq and Sadam and finanly back to the ****ing tsunami. Your world vs america attitude is even furthermore highlighted when you forgive america on behalf of the dead! This is obsenity. How can you thank/forgive on behalf of a group you dont belong. eg: On behalf of China, rustedtight is an idiot.
Do you feel you owe something to the victims rustedtight? Is that why your critizing whole nations? May I ask you something? Have you donated anything worth its salt, rustedtight? Or do you feel your $1.50 or whatever donated for you by your government is enough?
Like I said before, I am embaressed to be one of your fellow Australians when I read your posts. If you are going to apologize or stand firm on your feelings, please use good points instead of personal insults which I know will be hard for you because you have no decent points that can get you out of your mess.
