MemberFor those of you with voice connection problems and PC’s locking up when attempting to activate voice…..check with your ISP to verify whether they are blocking ports 5000 -5010. I see all the chatter and complaints about Charter blocking these ports. Unfortunately, I too suffer the problem but I am with a different ISP. I have confirmed my suspicions with my local ISP & here is the response I got from their Network Support: “Yes, we are blocking port 5000 because of consistant abuse of the UPnP service used by Windows XP and various home electronics.” Basically, the ISP’s are trying to protect their networks which they have every right to and I (reluctantly) honor their decisions. It seems to me the issue should be addressed by Yahell. Otherwise….maybe a change in IM is in order. If you want to know more about the UPnP problem, I suggest you research GRC.com.

MemberThank you for contacting Charter Communications.
We apologize for the confusion this issue has caused you. According to
our latest information, the only ports being blocked on our service are
135-139 and 445. This is to help prevent the spread of viruses
currently flooding the internet. We do not block any ports in the 5000 range or the 6000 range. We do
filter port 110 for incoming traffic and port 25 for outgoing traffic. If you have any additional questions regarding your Internet service or
need further assistance with it, you may contact us by calling the
telephone number listed on your bill or work order. Additionally, you can
find your local contact information on the web at:

MemberThank you for contacting Charter Communications.
We apologize for the confusion this issue has caused and any misinformation you have received. Charter only blocks the following ports: 135-139 & 445. We do not block ports 5000 through 5010 or ports 6667 through 6669. If you are unable to use your Yahoo voice program, please have a computer technician check the ports on your computer. If you are connected to your cable modem through a router, please have your router manufacturer check the ports on your router.
As these ports are not blocked by Charter, this is not a Charter issue and a technician cannot be sent out to your house to resolve your issue. You will need to contact your computer manufacturer or router manufacturer for resolution.
If you have any additional questions regarding your Internet service or need further assistance with it, you may contact us by calling the telephone number listed on your bill or work order. Additionally, you can find your local contact information on the web at:

MemberI was not able to use voice with Yahoo messenger. Whenever I click on the voice button to enable voice chat, I will get “Connecting to audio server….” in the IM window and then my computer freezes…
I am using Motorola WR850G wireless router (My ISP is charter). So I tried to add port triggers (UDP: 5000-5010) for yahoo voice in my router. Now when I click the voice button, I am getting a error message
“Internal Server error. Cannot obtain voice token to start voice chat”I too think its something to do with Charter. I called the customer service number and was waiting for more than 45 mins…but no reply…uffff :mad::mad:

MemberMVFREAK PROVES THE POINT…THIS IS A CHARTER ISSUE…THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE EXACT PROBLEM WE ARE ALL HAVING WITH THEM, AND THEY KNOW WE KNOW IT. A CHARTER TECH HAS ASKED TO BE UPDATED ON THIS FORUM, I TOLD HIM TO REGISTER LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, THEN SENT HIM A A TEXT COPY. HE AGREES THERE IS A PROBLEM, BUT APPARENTLY TELEPHONE TECHS ARE NOT BEING TOLD AND DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE INFORMATION THAT HAS BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO BLOCK THESE POINTS.

MemberDoesnt matter who the ISP is, blocking ports against paying customers is simply wrong. If the ISP is so concerned about virus problems or UDP problems or all tha BS mumbo jumbo “whocares” posted, then Thats the ISP’s responsibility to upgrade its internal system or upgrade its viral and trojan projection.

MemberThats just the Yahoo Bot responding to your email. Looks like Yahell may actually change their voice server ports to bow to the loser ISPs like Charter. HANG IN THERE somethings gonna happen soon.
