Well I voted. It’s fun pressing buttons on a touch screen, then the big red Vote button that buzzes. Woot.
Anyway I knew Democrats would take a hold of the Senate again. I did my duty.

November 9, 2006 at 10:33 pm #154135DermotParticipantWell personally i do think it’s about oil as many things can confirm to this theory or perhaps just my own.
The likes of the accusations towards the invasion of iraq due to manufacture of weapons of mass destruction.
Now no proof was ever revealed of these weapons or produced in any stage of the invasion.
Yet the likes of a better fortified non oil country like north korea have been testing weapons of mass destruction and plenty of proof as such but america wont invade north korea, instead they ran to nato on a resolve on it, you ever wonder why?
Even if the vote was for senate you would be somewhat voting for applicants to be up from the job in 2008, which do you think woul be a better position for office, democrats or republican for americans well being, as would the result and diaster after katrina think they should have acted better on a local matter instead of beeing sidwinded by a war thats death toll of american kids will surpass the death toll of 9/11 sooner or later.
It’s funny how the projected death of hussein was hurried into place on the post election you have acted on.
iraq like vietnam is guerilla warfare and there are no winners in it.
there are many political and absent remarks a non american can make about american politica like perhaps the gun law a lot play on …nonetheless perhaps the 55,000+ people who die by guns in each year in american lives.
So i do believe it is a important time for americans and an important time for others to watch. The action that happen or even if all the agression keeps up and a world war is triggered, we the world are affected.
maybe i just rant too much…lol
November 9, 2006 at 11:54 pm #154148PolarBearNPRParticipantYou certainly don’t rant too much! In this forum, all should feel free to voice opinions. And parts of yours are certainly along the lines of, well, mine for one. I don’t think oil is/was the big thing there, and most thinking people didn’t believe for a minute that there were WMDs, more an overzealous adminstration bent on spreading *our* version of democracy . . . or something . . . it (our involvement there) still confounds me.
But we certainly have many domestic issues that need addressed NOW and I’m hoping with the big no-confidence vote we returned that the government will take heed and do what the real people actually want.

November 11, 2006 at 2:53 pm #154123Jeff HesterKeymasterThis is a war I see no ending for. I agree we should stay now that we are there but too bad it’s gonna be for many more years (or so it seems)

We should know because we are paying the damn prices and it’s leaving us broke.Oil prices here are NOTHING compared to what they are like in europe…trust me…we don’t really pay that much if you compare.

November 12, 2006 at 12:10 am #154129OreoMemberEveryone is entitled to their opinions though…that’s part of what voting is all about. In the end it’s really up to people to check the facts for themselves and make up their own minds. Democrats, Republicans and Independants can all agree upon that. 🙂
November 12, 2006 at 1:14 am #154149PolarBearNPRParticipantOoooo – this is GREAT! Wonderful discussions here! I don’t think our gas prices are too bad, compared with much of the world, and hopefully it’s helping folks make better decisions for the environmental impact of cars.
I don’t think our actions in one country are going to impact the threat of terrorism here, we’ve got home-grown ones and domestic issues that wreak more havic on our society than any foreign insurgent group who might make their way way over here. Hopefully this will all get straightened out, and we can all live happily together on this Big Blue Ball.

Regardless of our own home grown terrorism those people want us dead or to convert to the religion of islam. That is there way of thinking. So unless you want to worship their god or get blown up what’s your third option? (Let me just say that I’m not trying to argue and I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion. A little education wouldn’t hurt though.)This isn’t arguing! 🙂 This is discussion! 🙂 It’s a good thing! 🙂 And I do know about the Jihad, which is a crazy “arm” of folks claiming to be muslims, just as the KKK here claims to be christian. The muslims I know are wonderful, peace-loving people, very dedicated to their religion and its tenets which value peace and harmony and living as God (Allah) intends. But as I stated, going to war in one country isn’t going to avert the threat of terrorists here or anywhere else. The people of Iraq or the US or anywhere else are not bent on destroying other people. It’s zealous leaders (national and/or organizational) with personal agendas who drag innocent by-standers into the fray. At least, that’s my opinion.
Let’s keep talking!
November 12, 2006 at 3:46 pm #154130OreoMemberPlease keep DISCUSSION and stay away from arguements and accusations…I would hate to have this deteriorate to the point I’d have to lock the topic.
