I don’t mean which game do you hate most. We all have our likes and dislikes. What makes you cringe when you see it in a video game?
-
Cut scenes you can’t skip no matter how many times you’ve played the game?
-
Cut scenes that are longer than the game?
-
Beautiful intro movies that don’t look anything like the game itself?
-
Cars that crash, fall into rivers, and then miraculously pass you on the very next curve in racing games?
-
Text – games you spend more time reading then playing?
The one thing that makes me cringe more than any other in a video game is the timer . As soon as I see a timer pop up, the hair stands up on the back of my neck. I hate them with the intensity of a thousand suns.
April 4, 2006 at 5:45 pm #141752Jeff HesterKeymasterHmm this would make a good poll question. Maybe you can edit your post to reflect that.
I would say cut scenes that you can’t skip and yes a timer…timer is the worst of all.
April 4, 2006 at 6:01 pm #141775Tea GrannyMemberThe idea behind this question was to get enough varied answers to make one. Anything I’d list would be personal dislikes, and wouldn’t reflect a general view. Besides, I don’t know how to make a poll.
April 4, 2006 at 9:31 pm #141762AwesomeSauceParticipantLong boring cutscenes is a big one for me (But I don’t mind them if I can skip them, or they’re actually interesting to watch).
I can’t really think of anything else. :/
April 4, 2006 at 10:02 pm #141767MrEggsaladParticipantYeah, big long boring cutscenes, and the credits. I also hate how like the bad guys just die and disappear, I want dead guys on the ground darnit! I also hate it when they give you very hard controls to use. I want other things to be damaged when I hit them/shoot them. I also hate how some games have bad language just to get the rating of “T” or whatever.
April 5, 2006 at 1:43 am #141763AwesomeSauceParticipantHeh, yeah, a game does not have to be M-rated in order to be cool. People tick me off when they say that the Gamecube is only good for 3-year-olds and the like. I love the Gamecube because it has some great games that you cannot find for other platforms. Take a look at Animal Crossing, for example. It may seem to have a bit of a childish theme to it, but it is a game that almost anyone of any age can enjoy. My idea of a kid’s game is a game like “Elmo’s Letter Adventure” for the N64 where Elmo says “Press any of the buttons that are flashing on the screen to start! You can get a parent to help you.” 😛 Anyway, again, Gamecube has a lot of creative and original games you cannot find for any other system, whereas the Xbox seems like a buch of generic first person shooters and a small amount of other sports and miscellaneous games (However, I’d say the PS2 has a very good mix).
I don’t really mind credits however. I mean, come on, you gotta give credit to the people who brought you your favorite games. The only thing kind of annoying about them is when they have to be shown at the beginning, after you turn on your system, increasing the wait time before you can actually start playing. This is why older games for the Atari 2600 and most NES games are nice – you can just turn the system right on and start playing.

*goes back to not going off topic*
Oh and in CS, the dead bodies do remain on ground. 😉
April 5, 2006 at 2:47 am #141768MrEggsaladParticipantWell, see I’ve never played CS so I didn’t know that! But in many games they just kidna go away. And the credits really only bother me if there are like 1,000,000 and I can’t fast forward through them. I think the coolest credit thing I ever saw was (Might have been Simpsons Hit and Run) where you could like shoot the names as they came up, I’d love watching all my shows and stuff like that :p
April 5, 2006 at 11:46 am #141753AnnaParticipantDying. 😛

Melee 😀 See how many credits you can shoot and see your score at the end.
April 5, 2006 at 4:26 pm #141776Tea GrannyMemberI really need to figure out how to use “quotes” from multiple posts. Thanks MrEggsalad (yum) for adding to the list. Someone on the Rare team must agree with you about guys disappearing. I’ve heard that dead guys in Perfect Dark Zero never stop bouncing around after their dead – something about over kill on the ragdoll physics. It does seem odd no matter how much debris falls away from a wall you shoot at, it remains unscathed . Since I never look at a game’s rating, that “peeve” would have never occured to me. AwesomeSauce you have a valid point about Animal Crossing. There is something there for adults. Must be. I have nine towns! It just isn’t the type of game for everyone, and it does look too “cute” for most adults. But then, I’m not most adults. I secretly get pleasure from whacking other villagers with my net. Now, does anyone know if you can make a poll where you can select multiple choices? ie: “choose all of the one’s that apply to you”
April 5, 2006 at 9:22 pm #141765AwesomeSauceParticipantAs for walls being shot apart and being able to blow up anything you want, that would be extremely complicated, and is too much to ask for (IMHO). A lot of people don’t realize how much fetching work it takes to make a good first person shooter or something like that. Programming any visual object in a game to blow up or react a certain way when you shoot at it would take A LOT of time. Remember, video games will always have their limits, guys.

Like in James Bond, I know you can shoot at a wall or any object on a wall and a hole stays there for x minutes. But, I can’t shoot anything that’s not a wall (besides people) and really see anything.
April 8, 2006 at 9:09 pm #141766SpikeMemberI think what pisses me off in Guild Wars (great, great game, by the way) is that when you spend an hour making the perfect party to take out onto a mission, then five minutes into it, someone quits and makes it impossible for anyone else to complete it. Anyone who seriously plays GW here knows exactly what I’m talking about.
April 8, 2006 at 9:17 pm #141772DragonSlayerzMemberThe thing that I hate most, and is the most annoying part in a game is the loading screen. I can’t stand to wait to and wait…
