It has nothing to do with getting “infected” by an IM, and everything to do with sharing information. If you have information to share, post it here in the forums. Asking people to PM you for the information is bullcrap. Either post it here or keep your mouth shut.
I agree with the warnings and thank you for posting them. I come here for info, help and a little bit of light humour….not to be confused by someone telling me to PM them. I don’t PM people I don’t know… plain and simple. It’s just not a good idea…. and tellling people to PM you for more info….to quote Austin Powers “That’s just not Cricket!” So share and be nice…. sharing is caring!
I may have seen some of these “infections.” In one ocassion I was infected while visiting a site. After that, my yahoo messenger kept on sending something like “[my yahoo id]: hey, btw, can you have a look at my site? here [some number http url].” My buddies all kept complaining why i keep on insisting that they visit my site, well in fact, i have no websites. I believe this is why NAV has an anti-IM-virus-feature-thingie.
anyway, going back to the topic, there is no real way to transfer your buddy list from one yahoo ID to another. although there is this nifty software that can add buddies to youryahoo id without having to ask for permission. a simple google search will lead you to the site.
Wat….I think you are missing the other point we were trying to make. Why do you want to encourage people to add without permission. Personally, I can see no legitimate reason to add someone without permission. If there were fewer people trying to do things sneaky and under handedly the Internet (and the world for that matter) would be a much better place. Why encourage abbhorant behavior…. if people have the brains to figure things like that out…use the brain power for good and useful purposes…not evil. Ok…now I have strayed far from the topic. I still think the list has to be centrally stored somewhere.

There is an IM specific virus doing the rounds. While you cant get infected sending an IM, you can recieve a virus via IM. It is for this reason antisocial activity is not encouraged here. Either share or go to some other forum.Hi folks !
My intention is not to add trouble or to be polemical. But I just wonder why there are on this forum IM features or links to users’ respectives IM clients ?
I believe that the philosophy of a forum is to share knowledge, that’s a point. But I’m sure there might sometimes be the need not to expose a problem to everybody.
Sometimes I may post a comment that corresponded to someone’s problem. That person would ask me whether I could explain it with more precisions. To me it won’t be unnatural if he gave me his IM to solve it online or his email to receive the complete explanation… I won’t really consider it “like being infected”
But I may probably be wrong, please don’t flame me. It was just a mere opinion of mine !

nye? where in my statement did i actually encourage abbhorant behavior? when all i did was to SHARE INFORMATION. I think its Yahoo’s problem, and not the user that such software exists sice the same end can be achieved simply with the yahoo messenger program, an internet connection and a browser, and does not involve any hacking, or any other illegal means.

I agree that there are times when it’s appropriate to IM someone privately. What I don’t like is when someone says something like “I have the answer to your question… if you want it, IM/PM/Email me…” Seriously, if someone has an answer, just give it. If there’s a valid reason for not sharing it publicly, then at least state so, maybe something like “I have the answer to your question, but because it reveals a security hole in (name your program), I don’t want to post it publicly. I’ve sent the details to Jeff.” Or whatever… you get the idea.
But once i tried to help some one you removed my link.The thing which i wanna tell him is related to hacking.Is the hacking material is legal on this forum?
I think you already know the answer to that. Just email them, dont advertize the ‘IM me for more help’ slogan when not needed.

No, we don’t allow links to sites for hacking, cracking, warez or pornography.
