I once ran windows millenium and i can tell you MSN interferes with most games on it and even shuts them down if you close down msn the games work i dont know its weird if msn is loaded on windows xp and your connected to the internet msn will put a ugly box in the corner of the screen on half life and then disappears. I wonder how msn is messing up half life. Anyway i stick with windows 98.
July 5, 2003 at 1:06 am #94308skittles558MemberI’ve tried that method and done it correctly but it still did not work for me. When I tried installing 6.0 BETA version an error came up saying I needed to update my windows installer, so I did. Could thjis have any effect on it not allowing me to sign in on the 6.0 preview version?
July 5, 2003 at 12:17 pm #94314id09Memberhi there!
Try downloading mns 6.0 preview version that is meant for Windows 9x (95/98). That should run on Win Me!! and te;; me if it works! 😉July 5, 2003 at 8:16 pm #94310siriusblackMemberWindows ME suck. No ****. 🙂

Don’t like it? Don’t use it.
Suck it up Buttercup. Simple as that. Please don’t spam our boards with pointless whining. 😮

Programs never leave your PC when you delete them. They always have parts stored away in the system registry, even when uninstalled! When you download a new msn, parts of the old 1 are still there which can get in the way! anyhow… this should help your WIN ME freezing issue!
1.Exit msn messenger completely
2. click Start, then Run, type “regedit” and click OK
3.Then go to (they look like small folders) :
MyComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMSNMessenger.
Click the ‘MSNMessenger’ key (Do not double click! just highlight it so it should turn blue)
then go to the Edit menu, and then click Delete.
Click “Yes” to confirm the operation.
4. Install your msn 6 file and see what happens!
Im running WIN ME too! I had the exact same problem, i did this and MSN worked a treat! Let me know how you get on FOLX!
P.S. I like to think of WIN ME as “special” rather than sh1t -l[]l! 😉
I done that and i still have MSN 5.0 sitting in there and i cant Uninstall it!?! grr help!
July 10, 2003 at 12:40 am #94307darkjediMemberyes win ME does suck, why? Microsoft decided to put it out without getting all the bugs out. Lets see it freezes, it blue screens, hmm what else, thats the two i can think of off the top of my head but there are others, LOTS of them. Win xp pro is the most stable, i havent ever had a blue screen happen on it. As for MSN 6.0 damn its cool, but why have the sheep and snail in the emoticons?? What possible use can those be?

I don’t think it’s actually possible to get BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) on an NT OS (WinXP = WinNT5.1), Yup, WinXP is stable, but I still vote for Win2k. It’s $70US at http://www.9software.com (I think that’s the site, they have pretty good software, but haven’t ordered anything yet).
BTW – I find it to be just SAD that WinMe had System Restore (A nice feature if your a newbie), but it COULD NOT work until you installed a patch. did they even Alpha/Beta test it? LOL
July 10, 2003 at 1:51 am #94303DavidParticipantMore on OS’s:
(I typed this up a while ago, I’m copy/pasting)Windows 95: We were amazed to see this, it was so much better than Win3.x or MS-DOS6.x, although they say it’s a bad OS, it is a decent OS and if you have the correct hardware, it will run well.
Windows 98/98SE: This is really just Windows 95 with bug fixes and a few minor upgrades, same with 98SE (WinMe also has System Restore)
Windows Me: The last of the 9x OS’s, this is also the last to run on FAT32 File system (by default all NT OS’s use NTFS (NT File System). Windows Me is unstable in my testing, and I have found it to be more problematic than any other OS.
Windows NT aka Windows New Technology (Apples to WinNT3.51/4.0): Windows NT brought Microsoft into the NT line of OS’s, Windows NT is not over MS-DOS as Win95/98/Me are, but it runs completely on itself. Windows NT is the future of Microsoft OS’s, Win9x versions are done with for ever.
Windows 2000 aka Windows NT 5.0: The next level in NT based OS’s three versions were released, Win2k Professional, Win2k Server, and Win2k Advanced Server. All my games run perfectly on Win2k. IMO, this is the best Microsoft OS ever created.
Windows XP Home Edition aka Windows NT 5.1: Windows XP gave Windows a new look, with a more streamlined appearance. Basically Windows 2000 with a new look and several new features, like WinZIP built in and a new category system.
Windows XP Professional Edition: Same as WinXP Home Edition but with advanced User administration, Internet Information Services 5.1, better Network tools and more stability than Windows XP Home Edition.
Windows Server 2003 aka Windows NT 6.0: Although most don’t know about this OS yet, it is the new Microsoft Server OS, with more built in features than ever, and Windows .NET support right out of the box.
