Also this does not happen when i use my AOL Browser, just Yahoo’s
February 21, 2003 at 11:31 pm #64312zbigMemberWhat is the URL address that has the screen where you are asked you to log on? Are you sure its a legitimate yahoo sign on screen or someone looking to steal your password? I’ve seen screens before that look exactly like the yahoo log on screen but in fact are bogus. How well do you know the people that sent you the link?
February 25, 2003 at 9:17 pm #64309tomsbbbMemberZbig: Actually the website is “spywareinfo.com (i think) its there Newsletter and in the letter it has back issue Links and when i click on any back issue link, i get the yahoo sign on screen! Tom
February 26, 2003 at 2:03 am #64311zbigMemberTom – my guess is it a front for them to steal a password directly or its an html page they are passing out to subscribers of their newsletter to be used for stealing passwords. Either way its pretty slimey!
February 26, 2003 at 6:38 am #64310queen_of_hearts2000_2000MemberCould you please tell me TOM , is this newsletter from Yahoo???

We need more accurate details than ‘I think’.February 27, 2003 at 3:27 am #64308tomsbbbMemberActually it is in my yahoo email and it is Spywareinfo.com if i try to click on a back issue Link, i keep getting the yahoo sign on screen but i dont want to put my password in because i thought it is odd that it keeps doing that, because i know i had just signed on just before this happens!
February 27, 2003 at 1:44 pm #64295snugleupagainstMemberOK Toms,
Its an Email you get in your Yahoo! Mail, But it doesn’t mean its from Yahoo! Dear any Email or site that is Yahoo! will have a Yahoo! Email addy that it is sent from and a Yahoo! website address that you click on. Like the Email would be from: (whatever)@yahoo.com and a link to click on would be (http://www.backissues).yahoo.com, something of the sort! If its not a Yahoo! address its NOT Yahoo!February 27, 2003 at 9:26 pm #64307tomsbbbMemberIf anyone wants to see first hand what i mean, go to http://www.spywareinfo.com and sign up for the weekly Newsletter and when you get the first one, try to click on one of the “Back Issues” and see if you get the Yahoo sign on screen or if it connects you to the back issue link? BTW, this happens with other Newsletters i get to. Maybe Yahoo is reading it as an Attachment or something?
February 28, 2003 at 12:59 am #64294snugleupagainstMemberToms what we are telling you is that its NOT a Yahoo! site!!!!!!!!!! Its a site that steals your Yahoo! ID and password!!! WHY would you even think of trusting a site thats web address says *SPYWARE*????????? Try to get off the newsletter list (but I doubt you will be able to) and just delete anything that comes from them without opening it in the furture. Good Luck!

I would suggest that instead of seeking support (victims?) from members that YOU open a hotmail account and that YOU do as you suggest and see what results from it. If the result is the same…. let us know. Obviously then there is a security problem requiring attention.
If the result is different … 1. lets us know. 2. question your installation of Yahoo on your system.
Most fixes to problems are realised and proved on the local system.
I wish you luck and hope this is not a security problem.February 28, 2003 at 5:50 pm #64306tomsbbbMemberRustedtight: You said quote>I would suggest that instead of seeking support (victims?) < I dont mind telling you i am very insulted by this remark. Sometimes when people are new at PC they may say or do something that is considered not right by some one with more experience( thru not knowing better) that does not give someone the right to automatically Assume that, that person has evil intent! You are a Moderator, and should realize this and cut that person some slack! Tom
March 1, 2003 at 2:38 am #64284Jeff HesterKeymasterOk Tom, I signed up for the very same newsletter using my Yahoo email account. I’ve confirmed my subscription and now I’m just waiting for the first issue to see if I can reproduce the symptoms you experienced.
March 1, 2003 at 3:23 am #64305tomsbbbMemberOk, Jeff, When you get the Newsletter, you will see all the links work except the one’s for the “Back Issues” and if you click on anyone of them you should (like i do) get the Yahoo Sign on Screen instead of the Link to the back issues! I forget what day they send the newsletter, Please let me know if you get the same thing, i am anxious to see if its just my pc doing this or if its Yahoo, because Spywareinfo said they could not figure it out either! Thanks, Tom

TomYes ofcourse your right and I did not consider your intent was ‘evil’ I was simply pointing out that there was a risk in requesting ordinary member expose themselves to a potential problem (and become a victim).
As I am well protected from malicious attacks I began to do as you suggested however Jeff jumped in early and did the same.
Please, understand that while I suggested an alternative method it was not an attack on you, please understand I have less experienced and impressionable members to protect from jumping into the deep end and am constantly mindful of them. Consider the ramifications if 5 or 9 members followed your request and it was indeed a virus or a security threat…. devastating to them, obviously.
My remarks………Quote:quote:Most fixes to problems are realised and proved on the local system.was to explain that nobody including Jeff or I can duplicate your particular setup…… the ‘fix’ may quite possibly only be found using your computer.
Its best not to assume anything.
