ParticipantYahoo! have released a public beta of Y! Messenger 7.5
Page to download this build is below.
http://beta.messenger.yahoo.com/
** NOTICE **
This build from what i believe will ONLY work with XP and Windows 2000 and above.
(although site says xp and above some people have got it to work on windows 98)
It is not yet avilable in all countries but it is avilable in the US and Canada
Only real notice i have seen so far is the removal of the seperate Login box which is in the actual form now like msn messenger and a new tab and box for pc to fone calls.
This version of Messenger can also let you phone telephones and give your pc a unique Phone number..more info on this below.
http://voice.yahoo.com/phone_number.php
The ability to make calls to phones is boosted in the beta page and says it will be as cheap as 1c or 2c a minute to call a lot of places all over the world so that could be interesting.more info below
http://voice.yahoo.com/phone_calls.php
Charge prices have been set for this feature in whatever countries it is compatible with. see more info below
http://voice.yahoo.com/phone_rates.php
Feedback on this beta Build can be submitted below.

KeymasterDermot, the beta.messenger.yahoo.com link redirected me to messenger.yahoo.com (probably the same problem that DarkAngel had). I was, however, able to install the Yahoo! Messenger 7.5 beta using the installer link you provided.
Unfortunately, when I tried to test the PC-to-phone calling, I got the following message… (click the attached thumbnail).

ParticipantHi Jeff, Thats odd as i have absolutely no problem with the beta page opening.
Perhaps its not readily available in the us yet, however that is quite hard to believe.
The signup box that i can sorta see on your post cus it wont open big, is the sign up page as the calls cost money so you can sign up and pay for “talktime” for the PC to Fone option only,I would think the US would be first to get it but it seems that is not the case, its still free to call PC to PC.
The message you got i do not get as i am not in the US but Yahoo! are working on the pages today and maybe be adding more support as we speak.
But as its just a “Beta” expect some hiccups and non functional options.
If anyone wants to know what “Open Talk!” is then i will tell you.
This is an option to let you change your status to a fone icon with a message that says “Open Talk!” that lets you get PC to PC calls from your buddies on you list without having to Answer like normal so they can just connect to your pc and hear you.
Saying this “that option is scarey or bad” dont really count as its an option and one you can choose.

ParticipantBtw jeff here what my 7.5 Beta says with same box.
Its funny how the US dont have the option yet.

MemberI have no idea how you guys are getting that message… everytime I click anything about the new ‘calling’ features I just get a white screen or box. *confused*

MemberI had no trouble downloading from beta.messenger.yahoo.com – AND I get the same as Dermot’s attached thumbnail.
On the small cross-section in this thread then, DOES it mean things “work” for non-US users only ?I noticed “Intended for use by U.S. residents only.” in the small print on the Beta page, which puzzles me a little.
Though I’ve tried for months to sign up with Yahoo’s Net2Phone, which appears impossible for me unless I fax them a copy of my credit card statement, which I refuse to do!
They seem to want to make it real hard for foreigners(?) to send them money!December 16, 2005 at 2:04 pm #134776xxDarkAngelxx
Memberif i click on the phone i get a yahoo add saying “Great news. PC-to-Phone calling is just around the corner.”

ParticipantPerhaps Yahoo! are waiting till its tried out elsewhere and the US support will come with the final build.
As with Microsofts new upcoming messenger “Windows Live Messenger 8.0”, the main new stuff on the messengers is not phased in yet and it will also have VOip the same as Yahoo! Messenger…or perhaps the url thats suppose to show on the box reads location from user agents locale info and just screws up with us “non american” folk…and shows what we’re not suppose to see…which i think is the case as the beta site does NOT mention a UK version of the beta messenger.
Hope that helps.
…if not..sue my shrink!

MemberWOW, this beta version has a some big bugs. When I try to use my mouse to scroll my contact list, it lags and it doesn’t scroll. Also when I minimize the messenger it shuts down.

ParticipantI have none of the problems you mention.
This build of Messenger is for XP and up only.
If you have that and still have problems, try reinstall.
if still persists, go back to 7.0
