This file is only for 8.0.0.701
move the file into C -> Program Files -> Yahoo! -> messenger
Backup the res_msgr.dll that is there.
While in a chat room click on “View” dropdown menu and choose “Show Nickname”
While in a chat room right click on someone in the list on the right and choose “Follow user”
August 10, 2006 at 8:07 am #150391Eagle_KiwiMemberThank you (again!) Chris. 🙂
I have YM-701 now, and so far have seen nothing different whatsoever… but…. early days yet!
(Gee, I WISH Yahoo would publish a “change log” or a “what’s new” …. but I guess they haven’t time – too busy DOING stuff to bother pausing to TELL US WHAT they’re actually “doing” .)
August 10, 2006 at 8:33 am #150308Jeff HesterKeymasterMy Ad remover does not work with Yahoo messenger 8.0.0.701 yet. The main messenger window Ad is different.
August 10, 2006 at 3:30 pm #150361imported_Ven0mMemberWell, I found that the urls.xml trick dosen’t work anymore, and neither does hardpatching the exe file either (It removes the ad, but not the ad container).
August 10, 2006 at 3:32 pm #150341DermotParticipanti’ll have a look at it myself now.
see what they have done.
August 10, 2006 at 4:00 pm #150363imported_Ven0mMemberIt appears they fixed the issue where when you set your YIM to show Yahoo IDs, it shows your name instead. I think they fixed it.
August 10, 2006 at 4:16 pm #150342DermotParticipantYeah they seemed to have changed the theme too, perhaps finally added a xp manifest to stop skinning programs from crashing it.
Will have to look deeper to find how the ad’s been enabled.
will put it thru decompiler later.
August 10, 2006 at 4:22 pm #150364imported_Ven0mMemberThey still didn’t fix the Chat Word Filter bug, oh well, editing filter1.enc works nicely.
August 10, 2006 at 5:34 pm #150326aneagleParticipantI changed “enabled” to “disabled” at HEX 3981AC in messenger.exe and the main window ad’s gone.
August 10, 2006 at 7:10 pm #150365imported_Ven0mMemberThat disables Launchcast music statuses if I’m not mistaken
August 10, 2006 at 7:26 pm #150343DermotParticipant3981AB is the HEX here
however i still think..
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareyahoopagerLocaleEnable Messenger Ad
has a role to play in the newest Messenger ad on main window.
August 10, 2006 at 7:45 pm #150310Jeff HesterKeymasterHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareyahoopagerLocaleEnable Messenger Ad
That Key was there in all the other Messenger 8 versions.
August 10, 2006 at 8:25 pm #150366imported_Ven0mMemberHas anyone found any productive ways of removing the ad yet?
August 10, 2006 at 8:34 pm #150311Jeff HesterKeymasterNot here I am thinking the only way might be useing hex hack. But I don’t know how to do that.
