ParticipantI found the root of the problem and it turns out the way to remove the main window ad is fairly simple. 701 looks for the client_ad page in urls.xml, if it fails a request is sent to insider.msg.yahoo.com/ycontent to retrieve the client_ad page. Replacing the string “insider.msg.yahoo.com/ycontent?” with all hex 0 at offset 3D3317 of YahooMessenger.exe and using the hacked urls.xml to block Y!m from getting to the ad. Now the main window ad can be removed almost the same way as with 683.
Here’s the new hacked exe to be used with hacked & readonly urls.xml:

MemberRemoved: Was unable to enter chat rooms using messenger, looks like yahoo is’t making it easy now.
August 19, 2006 at 11:16 pm #150404Shadowdeath
MemberI’ve tried aneagle’s and tim2679’s patches, and here are the problems I’ve faced:
a) No more plugins. Yeah, that simple. I mean, button “Plugins” is still at the bottom of the main window, but plugins aren’t loading. Messenger says: “Whoops. Looks like you’ve already tried every available Yahoo! Messenger plug-in.”
b) Still can’t change “Home country”, it’s not highlighting.Question: In 683 and earlier builds I had a problem in chats. While I was chatting, a message “You can’t ignore yourself” kept on popping up oftenly. Is it fixed in 701? I didn’t even do anything, just sat and chat. No idea why do I keep getting it, surely I wasn’t trying to ignore myself.
August 19, 2006 at 11:45 pm #150411tim2679
MemberMy plugins are loading fine and are showing.
My Country preferences are also showing.Make sure you are not using YahooMessenger.exe that has been patched already.
It will only be patched if you are using Yahoo Messenger 8 Build 701
All of the other lower builds in vesion 8.0 are taken out by using the
Messager Ad * Registry Entry and changing the urls.xmlAugust 19, 2006 at 11:54 pm #150409Shadowdeath
MemberWait, wait. I think I might know the problem. When you mentioned “other” I remembered that I used something else beside your patch. See, I have created a list of registry entries for few reasons:
1) When people replce “webcam viewer ad big” with “*” it slows the webcam down. You have to replace it with any blank link, not “*” (many people on different sites have mentioned that);
2) Usually along with adverts people block “tutorials” and help files;
3) None of the patches I have ever seen contained full advert list. If you are curious, you can see mine:[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareyahoopagerYUrl]
“Finance Disclaimer”=”http://msg.edit.yahoo.com/config/jlb”
“Chat Adurl”=”http://noads.html”
“Change Room Banner”=”http://noads.html”
“Webcam Upload Ad”=”http://noads.html”
“Webcam Viewer Ad”=”http://noads.html”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Big”=”http://noads.html”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Bid”=”http://noads.html”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Medium”=”http://noads.html”
“Chat Transition Ad”=”http://noads.html”
“Conf Adurl”=”http://noads.html”
“Calendar Alert Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”
“IMVironment Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”
“Mail Alert Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”
“Personals Alert Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”
“News Alert Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”
“Auction Alert Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”
“Login Mobile Ad”=”http://noads.html”
“Messenger Ad”=”http://noads.html”
“N2Phone Adurl”=”http://noads.html”
“Stock Alert Ad URL”=”http://noads.html”[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareyahoopagerLocale]
“Enable Messenger Ad”=dword:00000000So I used my list (reg file) along with your patch. Could this be causing problems?
And if it isn’t too impudent to ask, could you include this list in your patch? It contains the most full list of adverts I’ve ever seen on any sire, it doesn’t slow down webcam (I replaced with “http://noads.html”, not “*” as you see), and it doesn’t bloack any help files. So I kinda think it’s the most suitable list. Not bragging, just I think having it in your patch would be just perfect.
Uh… Maybe I should add “please, please, please”? 🙂August 20, 2006 at 12:04 am #150412tim2679
Member“Change Room Banner”=”*”
“Chat Transition Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Upload Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Big”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Medium”=”*”
“Chat Adurl”=”*”And if you are using a lower build then 701
“Change Room Banner”=”*”
“Chat Transition Ad”=”*”
“Messenger Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Upload Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Big”=”*”
“Webcam Viewer Ad Medium”=”*”
“Chat Adurl”=”*”After you mentioned those things I looked to see what might be wrong
the only thing I was able to find is that the VoiceMessage Tab and The
360 Tab are not showing. Also for some reason the chat room list will not
load properly. Also there is not a full list when using Yahoo Messenger 8.0 as it does not
contain all of the Urls for the ads in version 8.0 anymore. You only need the list you have if you are using 7.5 and lower
There was no reason for me to list which ones where being added
as the only ones being added where the ones you could select from. lolAugust 20, 2006 at 12:16 am #150403Shadowdeath
MemberChat room list doesn’t seem to load anyhow, not to mention “properly”. You know, there was one guy who messed with “urls.xml”. He managed to get rid of main window’s ad, but chat room list wasn’t loading too. Topic about it is here: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/05/no-more-ads-in-yahoo-messenger.html.
Does you patch mess with .exe? Or only with “urls.xml”? Because it doesn’t look like you can go far with “urls”, since it blocks chat room list when you get rid of ad through it.
August 20, 2006 at 12:21 am #150413tim2679
MemberPatches the exe and the urls.xml file. The Urls.xml file has be changed as well
otherwise the ad will show up using the Url contained there. The exe is only patch if you are using build 701
Edit: When I replaced the patched exe with the orginal the chat list was loaded, and was able to enter chat.
Edit: Oh well, it was a good try on Aneagle’s part. I thought I would make the patch so people didn’t have to download over a mb.
Was better off using the other method, as I don’t use sms and the other 3 small problems.

ParticipantShadowdeath,
I completely cleaned Y!M and re-installed to catch all possible packets in and out between my computer and Yahoo and got into detail of each packet. The packet blocked in my last hacked exe is the request sent to Yahoo to get the address where it can get all the nice feartures and the ads. To keep all features like Plug-ins, Audibles, Country list…I have to do in this order:
– start Y!M first in its original version, go through all features I want to use and all items the Preferences so Y!M can download all the scripts I will need and store in MessengerCache.
– clean IE cache.
– import the registry key to have some “*” and some “http://noad.html”
– copy the hacked urls.xml and set it to read-only.
– replace YahooMessenger.exe, this should be the last step.I forgot the Audibles at the first time so I put the original exe back, run it and get all the Audibles then replace the exe with the hacked one again. I think now I have everything.
I get a hint about Yahoo message in 701: live with the ads or you may lose some nice features.
So say goodbye to the ads make sure you get everything you want.[Edit] Comfirmed, can’t get the Chat room list with the hacked exe.

MemberYour 360 problem might be a cookie issue.
Any news on any perfected ad blocking method?

Memberhi guys
i tried dermot’s ad destroy 2 and the first time i used it, it gave me an error (cant move file to c drive) twice and it went on to say evrything is done and i should start messenger….messenger wont start and it gives an error it (cant find resource file) so i had to go to the backup folder and copy the file there back to the messenger file, i tried that twice and its the same….
so i thought it could be something i did unknownly so i uninstall it and tried it again and it gave me and error that (the version might not be batchable and it will discharge the changes or something like that) but it look like it was doing its work and when it finished …
i started the messenger and the ads still there……:mad:is there diffrenet verisons of ad destiry ifr messenger 8.681 and 8.071??
iam using 8.0.0.701 with xp sp2…..help plzz1 more thing any one knows a menu update like vb packet’s menu updates for yahoo messenger 8?
August 25, 2006 at 9:37 pm #150414tim2679
MemberThe error could be caused by patching the wrong version of messenger.
Say the patch is designed to be used with Yahoo Messenger 8.0 701
and you use the patch on Yahoo Messenger 8.0 683 you could get
an error when you try and start the messenger as the Offsets the patch
changes maybe be different then the Offset it is suppose to change. The Starting Offset for the Client_Ad Url in 8.0 683 is 3D2E4C
The Starting Offset for the Client_Ad Url in 8.0 701 is 3D2E54Changing the value of even one Offset could cause the messenger
to have errors when you try and run the program. As for the Drive error that you got, this could be due to the fact that
you may have more then one hard drive. If the patch is design to only
look for the messenger on the C drive and you are booted on using a
different drive then C ( meaning you have two Operation Systems )
and don’t have Yahoo Messenger installed on the C drive the error will
pop up because it can’t find the file it was told to look for in the folder
it was told to look for it in. -
