No, the names are stored on-line, not on your computer. You will lose your archives though, unless you go and copy the folder and move it somewhere else, then after re-installed, you go place it back.
July 29, 2006 at 4:22 pm #149121Jeff HesterKeymasterNo you will not loose your
IM friends,
people on your ignore list,
people on your allways view your cam box, and
Stealth settings for all friendsall that is saved
If you want to do a clean uninstall, after you do a normal uninstall, See below
it will still not affect the things above.
:woot: Not recommended if you don’t feel comptable doing it. Don’t touch anything else in the regedit file.
You might have to restart computer first.Delete the Messenger directory C -> program-files -> Yahoo! -> Messenger <- this will delete Archives.
Next
Go to “C -> Windows -> regedit” Next once your in the program,
Click on “HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/
And delete Yahoo! at the end of the list of programs.July 29, 2006 at 5:25 pm #149160pkorisaMemberthank you for the info hatedJ… and CChris.. PKM
July 30, 2006 at 12:14 am #149133detn8rParticipantIt was a real PITA to install. The installer “seemed” like it froze on 95% completion, yet when I killed the task, it still was installed properly..
Either way, it seems like it is more stable, just a HUGE resource pig. And I have to admit that the ad REALLY stands out!
July 30, 2006 at 3:03 am #149135Real WorldMemberI install it over the beta version and it’s working perfectly fine.
July 30, 2006 at 3:28 am #149122Jeff HesterKeymasterI guess that depends on the user.
A lot of software tells you to uninstall old versions before installing new versions. some software does it automatically and some software will give warnings if you don’t uninstall. Its just you can get bugs in yahoo, becouse files could get corrupt when you do that, and keys in the registry.
I always do a clean uninstall whenever i change versions of Yahoo, but thats me.
Ok I deleted about the smartness.
July 30, 2006 at 3:37 am #149144NessaParticipantCchris78 wrote:But was that smart! I guess that depends on the user. They don’t say uninstall first for nothing.Pfft. I have never ever uninstalled before installing the newest version over the previous and i’ve never had any real problems.
Plus i’ve never heard of uninstall first… *wonders where you heard that*
So it’s not based on smartness, it’s based on if you have problems or not, and my way has never caused me problems so i shall continue it and i’m sure other people shall too!
July 30, 2006 at 4:02 am #149123Jeff HesterKeymasterCan’t Find any bugs here.
July 30, 2006 at 4:03 am #149165williamleeMemberI have to agree with Hatedjealousy I never uninstalled when upgrading to a newer version and maybe thats the key to a good set-up because i rarely have messenger problems.
I will agree that you can get a bad download and may have to uninstall and restall it which would only make sense but not to upgrade.July 30, 2006 at 4:19 am #149124Jeff HesterKeymasterYou two might be right, but what is the difference between installing over a good download copy or a bad download copy?
July 30, 2006 at 4:22 am #149166williamleeMembersome of the bad downloads can come from a site that has spyware embedded in them.

or windows 95,98,and ME everything should work perfect for you to.untill Yahoo starts playing with servers again.
I did have it crash a few times but that was my falt I think.
Sorry Chris, but that is RIDICULOUS!
You sound like I sometimes suspect Yahoo and Microsoft etc to be – we make a new product – we test it thoroughly on ONE computer – THEN we issue it to the whole world and tell them it’s got no bugs.Only when you’ve ALSO tried it under every conceivable configuration of your computer (of which there are probably millions of combinations) – and each one under every type of internet connection – and THEN with different users (we all do things slightly differently, though still technically “correctly”) …… Only THEN MIGHT you dare to say “(I think!…) this has no bugs”.
So, I’m glad for you that it works perfectly for you, but that doesn’t mean it has no bugs.
(The reverse probably WOULD be true – find someone for whom some part DOESN’T work, then as long as they installed/operated it exactly “by the book” then you CAN say the program definitely HAS bugs.)I find a great benefit of forums like this is you CAN find other people’s differing experiences with a product, and hopefully find how “normal” or otherwise YOUR experience may be, then endeavour to figure the deep subtleties of WHY it may appear to work for one person but not another.
By all means tell people what works for you, but please don’t then just assume the same will necessarily apply to them.
July 30, 2006 at 9:24 am #149162StrigoiMemberOk lets break the manly talk with a silly question:can anybody see half of the 360 profiles when they’re using the plugin?Let me explain this or better yet post a picture…The thing is that when you press the little square with an arrow in the plugin a slide window appears and from that another one with the updates, but you only see half of that and its not movable.Pretty ****ty if you ask me…
I dont like the plugins at all,i dont find them easy and fast to use nor do i need them to be honest.
So the only good thing (for me) with this new version is the MSN compatibility, which i havent tested yet…i’ll probably go back to 7.5 if i cant even get rid of the ad…July 30, 2006 at 9:32 am #149156Eagle_KiwiMemberGood grief, you’re right, Strigoi!
Agreed, I also saw NOTHING of use or interest in these “plugin” thingies, so I don’t use any. I guess I MIGHT use the 360 one, if it worked, but as you point oiut, it appears not to … and it’s obviously not a problem specific to you. But… MSN compatibility seems pretty much ok to me, from the YM side anyway – and ultimately it’ll mean I never have to WLM at all 😉 so I hope you’ll persevere with it.

At least we know Yahoo messenger 8 software has no found bugs yet!!!Its not true that older messengers had no bugs. Example There was 4 bugs in chat rooms, Yahoo gave chat rooms no attention when it came out with the other versions. Still there are rooms you can’t enter it pops up a warning can’t create room, That is a server problem.
One Plug-in I like is YEmote from Wackyb.
You do not have to look up the code for the hidden emoticons. -
