July 11, 2004 at 6:22 am #87077antfunkParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by JeffGive us some details and maybe someone with a similar configuration can help. Specifically, the make and model of your webcam and the exact version of Yahoo! Messenger, along with any error messages that are displayed. It would also be good to know your firewall/router setup.
Without this basic information it’s almost impossible to diagnose what could be going wrong. Generally speaking, webcams DO work with Yahoo Messenger; so what you’re experiencing is somewhat unusual. Don’t expect us to be able to help without provided detailed information.
July 11, 2004 at 6:38 am #87078antfunkParticipantHi, I’m having the exact same problem with my webcam, causing my PC to seriously crash in Yahoo. I have the latest drivers and the latest version of Yahoo. The cam (and Yahoo) have always worked fine in the past. I wish I could remember what I’ve installed prior to this behavior. Web Cam is the old original Logitech QuickCam Express(yeah, been caming for awhile) all white with the triangle rubber base. System is ASUS P4S8X mainboard, P4 2.4Ghz, 1GB ram, ATI 64mb All in Wonder 8500DV video card. All my drivers and Win updates are current. Video card was a used gift from a friend. Could it be the video card??? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1. Shut down Yahoo! Messenger if it is currently running.
2. From the Windows Start menu at the left bottom of your screen, click
“Run.”3. From the input area, type regedit and press “Enter.” The registry
editor application should open.4. On the left side, expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder (or key), then
expand the Software folder under it and select “Yahoo.”5. If there is a Webcam folder, go to the next step. If there is no
Webcam below the Yahoo folder, go to the Edit menu and click New, Key,
and type Webcam.6. Select the Webcam folder.
7. From the Edit menu click on New, DWORD Value, and type UseVFW
without any spaces.8. Double-click on the entry UseVFW and change the entry in Value data
to 1. Then click “OK.”9. Exit the Registry Editor application.
Regards,
AsaccinThank you so much, Asaccin!!! That fixed it! Can you explain the fix for us wanna-be techies? =) Thanks again! =)

Your 1-9 step solved the problem instantly, did not need to reboot or anything. I ran out of solutions and toubleshootings and removal and installations…Thank You again, I’m a first time user and had to take the time to register just to thank you… FredDecember 8, 2004 at 4:31 pm #87083CausewayMemberThe 1-9 step unfortunately did not work for me. 🙁
Using XP. Quickcam. Attempting to use cam still makes YIM crash. Very sad…December 8, 2004 at 4:48 pm #87084CausewayMemberAnyone know anything about the ycabby.exe? Someone said this might help fix the crash issue.
December 8, 2004 at 8:12 pm #87080Son_Of_SpardaMemberI been having the same problem every since Windows Update “Updated” there site. So it might be windows update. I also did that regedit stuff and it sill happends. It also does it in all the chat clients. But once I do a fresh install, it works. So who knows.

Will connect to yahoo servers and download CAB files with needed (dynamic link libaries) DLL’s for Yahoo! cam and voice support and register the dll’s for you.
