MemberHi,
Not sure what the problem could be, but here are some tips on troubleshooting Lifestream issues.
- Lifestream is a host-based feature. So version 7.1 and 7.2 are using the same hosts that are in production on any given day. The AIM client mostly just displays the information in your Lifestream. This means that the connection to Twitter or Facebook is done on the host side and the client is not involved.
- Make sure that your third-party service account authentication is current. Lifestream sometimes tells you when there is a problem in the me tab asking you to re-authorize your account. To check that your Lifestream is connected, go to the Lifestream tab in AIM and click on “Setup Your Lifestream” link at the top of the page. From there just check that the accounts are there and that none of them are indicating errors.
- TIP: You can press F5 in the Lifestream (and Me tabs) to force the page to get reloaded. In some cases, that may trigger a full refresh of your associated accounts. At the very least, it will put things in proper reverse-chronological order.
- Lastly, Lifestream is constantly being updated. As this is mostly a host-pushed feature, there have been many more updates to Lifestream than AIM client updates. It is possible that there could be temporary server outages from time to time.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Gus

MemberSteve,
Sorry, I forgot to mention this option is shown only in Windows 7.
As David mentioned, Windows 7 offers more interaction on the taskbar thus making it desirable to keep the application icon there while the buddy list is closed so that you can interact with the jump list.

MemberThe latest AIM 7.2 Beta for Windows addresses this problem via a check box in the Buddy List tab of your settings. The new option is “Hide the taskbar icon when I close the Buddy List”.
You can try it out here: Beta – AIM

I concur, the latest version is always the best advice. AIM 7 also has many new features not available in the previous 6.x series including smaller/faster installer better performance, AIM Lifestream and more.
Enjoy.

Memberhyunho,
On AIM 7 you can collapse the Lifestream tab by un-checking the Menu -> View -> Lifeatream and Me tabs option.
Be aware that your status messages are pushed to Lifestream via either client unless you change the host settings (see: Lifestream : Login). Your friends using AIM 7 might comment/like your status message which you will miss if you run the older client or hide Lifestream.
I urge you to provide feedback to AOL via Menu -. Help -> Feedback. There are points of view at stake that cannot be defended without extensive user feedback; so please speak up.
Thanks,
Gus Verdun

MemberThis is AOL’s way of letting you know that there is a new version of AIM available. (AIM 7.0 for Windows with AIM Lifestream) Clicking on the link will take you to a web page that describes this new client and lets you download it.
The only official way to get rid of it is by upgrading to this new version of AIM.
The new AIM 7.0 client has a lot of performance and UI improvements. The installer is half the size of AIM 6.9 and includes a new feature called AIM Lifestream where you can see how many people have you on their buddy list, post status updates and comment on your buddy’s updates as well as upload photos as a status. You can even link it with your Delicious, Digg, Facebook, Flicker, Twitter, and YouTube accounts. Which lets you update and respond to Twitter and Facebook updates from AIM.
Give it a try. AOL is listening. So if there is something you don’t like, just use the feedback button in the AOL help menu to send your comments.
Enjoy.

MemberIf you mean the water drop into pool of water icon, then that was one of the default buddy icons set when the account was created a long time ago.

MemberThe small icon in the Buddy List is only defined for AOL official icons.
AIM 7 has a new feature that lets you upload larger 100×100 custom icons and shows them in the Buddy List when a user is online.

MemberThe number is accurate.
This is a new feature that was released with AIM Lifestream (still waiting for BBB to catch up on their AIM news). Since everyone’s Buddy List has always been private, AOL decided to let you control how it can be shared. The default is no sharing (the “Just me” option).
Users can share their Buddy List by signing on with AIM 7.0 on Windows or AIM 2.0 on Mac and opening the privacy tab in the settings window. There is an option there for “who can see my Buddy List” with three choices: Everyone, Only buddies on my Buddy List, and Just me.
This is a big change for AIM and the way in which the Buddy List is shared is expanding. Right now, on with either of those clients you can click on the number and see (from those who have shared their buddies) the buddies that have you on their list. If you share your Buddy List, then AIM Lifestream will add messages of the buddies you add and remove from your Buddy List (and letting your buddies comment on the action 😉 ) to those you have allowed to see your Buddy List.
Please keep in mind that not everyone is going to share their Buddy List and there could be plenty of abandoned AIM accounts that have you on their Buddy List but are no longer actively used by anyone.
The good news is that this is an evolving feature and will get more interesting as people decide to share their Buddy List.

MemberMake sure the plugin is enabled in the AIM plugin manager. Click on the “manager” link at the bottom of the buddy list to open it. Make sure the check box to the left of the plugin’s name is checked.
Use the Wimzi on my website to IM me from if you continue to have problems.
Gus What?! or IM me at gusblog.

MemberYes, my RX Plugin works with AIM 6.9. I am not aware of any activation problems at this time. The plugin will not work until it is registered. The registration process provides feedback.
Can you tell me what messages you are seeing when it fails?

MemberDid you try clearing your caches?
Try clearing your IE cache via the Windows Internet control panel.
Also, AIM 6 has an expressions cache as well located at:
C:Documents and SettingsINSERTYOURWINDOWSLOGINIDEHEREApplication Dataacccorecaches
delete the “bart” folder in there.
Let me know if this helps.

MemberTry my RX-Plugin for AIM 6.0. It has a feature called “Idle Lock” that lets you instantly appear as being idle at the press a hot-key. You can then continue to work at your PC (even send IM’s to other buddies) while you appear as idle on AIM.
See my post here: https://bigblueball.com/forums/aim-add-ons-utilities/38668-aim-6-0-wanna-use-only-if-i-can-find-instant-idler.html#post211889
You can download it here: Gus Verdun’s RX-Plugin (BETA)
