<– is using .3595 and whenever I click on the linked screenanme and hit "setup" it shows the buddylist for the primary screename… the only way that I know how to add buddies to linked screename is to signout and to re-signin as the screename you want to add buddies for.
HironobuMemberIt’s like a fileserver that you can run through aim. Go to your aim preferences and then go to File Sharing, and you can see all the options for it. If you enable file sharing on your aim, then your buddies can “Get File” from you.
Not many people use this, as stated above. I tried it before with one of my friends, and it seemed to freeze up aim pretty badly. This was a few aim builds ago and I haven’t used it since, so I can’t really let you know whether or not it has improved at all. My suggestion would be to only enable it on a case-per-case basis, such as if your buddy wants to take a pick of some mp3s from your collection.
If you hold your mouse over a screenname in your buddylist, and it shows “File Sharing” amongst the Capabilites, then that means that you can “Get Files” from them. 😀
HironobuMemberIf the link is in your profile, it’s actually quite simple. First, go ahead and put the link in your profile. Then go to your info.htm file… if you’re using Windows XP, you can find it here:
C:Documents and SettingsYour_Current_Windows_login_nameApplication DataAimYour_screenname
Right click the “info.htm” file and “Open with…” notepad. The link will look something like this:
You’ll want to add ” target=”_self” ” into the tag, so it will now look like this:
File, save… viola. Before, I had to go into aim and go through the editing profile dialog, not changing your profile, but just saving it, so AIM will recognize the change you made.
I did this in older version, so I’m not sure if it works in the newer ones, but it should. Also, as mentioned above, no pictures allowed, unless you want to create some spiffy ascii art. 🙂 Also, the page you put in there seemed to go beyond the character limit. 😀
HironobuMemberAnother, possibly more fitting (well, to me at least) solution to the mass warning problem would be to show the “accept dialouge” for people not on your buddy list.
One of my roommates and a friend raped another roommate’s SN while he had his away message up by mass warning like this, but it took a coordinated effort amongst us… getting him up to 100% took a while too. So, we decided to create a bunch of different SNs and just log on each of those to warn him.
But since he had the accept dialouge window pop up, he never responded with his away message, so we couldn’t warn him. So, if you trust the majority of the people on your buddylist, then this would probably be a better way to do this instead of the profile-only away message, well imo. 🙂
