Hi all. Hoping to find what I’m looking for here. I used to have a T-Mo Wing, my warranty expired and the phone broke. So the best offer T-Mo gave me was $350 for brand new Wing. I said “NO”, and I went to eBay and found an unlocked HTC P4351 (HTC model of T-Mo Wing) for $230 (unlocked!!). But there is a problem with this device. It doesn’t have that OZ Instant Messenger as the T-Mo Wing does/did. So I’m trying to find a free multi-client messenger just like that OZ Instant Messenger. But I want for it to vibrate when the PDA is set to vibrate mode. My OZ didn’t do that. It only was only capable of making sounds when my sound was on.
Next:
Since I don’t have and never did, any of mobile internet. It used my SMS gateway to sign on and to send/receive all of the incoming and outgoing instant messages (GPRS Connection). As soon as I tried logging in/on to my AIM account, it would turn on GPRS connection an log on. Whenever I sent or received an Instant Message (IM) it would count as 1 sent/received SMS.
“GPRS Connection” is also what the phone uses to send/receive picture messaging, too.
This connection was NOT set up on this phone originally. I wasn’t able to send/receive picture messages, I configured it myself. Now I can send/receive picture messages. Or instead of punching in a phone number to send it to, I punch in my e-mail address, and it sends a message to my e-mail from “[email protected]”. It turns on my GPRS Connection and sends it.
So
– First: I need to configure this application to use this connection (Turn It On Somehow)
– Second : I need to find an app of AIM for Windows Mobile 6 ProBottom Line
I need to configure this connection, and I need to install some kind of a client to support connection with it. Thank you for trying to help me!!ilyabyk83Member@patndoris 236557 wrote:
You said your IM’s were forwarding to the phone OK, so I wouldn’t go trying to change a bunch of settings if it were me. I don’t know that making the phone show up as a Wing on the AIM dashboard is going to do anything to improve the performance of IM forwarding to text, or the alerts you want.
However, I am at the end of my knowledge on this. Since I don’t use AIM, I don’t have any experience with unlocked phones, and I use my data plan for IM’s I really don’t know that I have any more to offer on this. Perhaps someone else will be able to assist you more.
Well thank you for your help already!! I’ll most likely post my question here for people to help me out. Thank You for your help!!!!!
P.S. I got your IM on Y!
THANK YOU!!ilyabyk83Member@patndoris 236195 wrote:

I can’t make it to show up as “T-Mobile Wing” on AOL Mobile site when I’m in my account. I reregister my device, too.

Yeah, there is an official AIM client for Windows Mobile, and you can get it here: AOL Mobile – AIM® for Windows Mobile
This is a quote from that site that you offered me!
“This service requires a data access or data plan from your wireless carrier. “
I do not have that!!!

Yeah!! Thanx but no thanx!! I tried it out already!! It requires for my phone to have mobile net access. I don’t have it. I was looking for something that uses your GPRS connection (Free Connection if you have it in your plan)). It doesn’t cost any extra. It’s a free service; it is really up to your device. My device is HTC P4351. Its GPRS enabled device. I’m looking for something that this will be enough for. Regular T-Mobile Wing has this “OZ Messaging Communicator”. And I certainly never had any kind of a data plan, and I was still able to log in to any of these three accounts. AIM ICQ or Y!. I need something like this. That won’t require a data plan. Just basic GPRS!! Thank You

This when I select which phone I have
(After I press “Update” nothing happens)What do I do here? I use something similar to T-Mobile Wing. It’s a same thing, only unlocked. Thank You for your help!!

I don’t know about 5-day weather, but you can check Weather.com for severe weather alerts. Also, Windows Live alerts offer weather from MSN. You’ll have to check the options.
You might also try a different alert from AOL just to see if it comes thru. If so, then it’s likely a problem with the weather alert itself. If not, perhaps AOL doesn’t play nice with T-Mobile for alerts – that is a possibility.
Best of luck! Glad to hear you got the forwarding working and the phone re-registered. That really was the most important part. Now you may just need to play around on the AOL/AIM settings a bit. I actually don’t use AOL/AIM so I’m not really able to go much farther than this with it.
Hi. After I followed your instructions (well not yours but you linked me to them), after I reset my phone and then reset it up with Mobile AOL. Forwarding is working!! I could live with just that at least. Thank You for your help!!

I would try logging into your AIM/AOL account on the computer and re-doing the association with your phone number. Just sign in on here and follow any instructions. Just make sure you are completely signed out everywhere afterwards or it won’t forward any IMs to you as a text.
Best of luck and let me know how it goes.
DUDE!!! Thank You!! I fixed 1/2 of the problem, and the important part too!! I fixed the forwarding part. I’m still not getting the alert, but I could live without it. Do you know of any other places where I can set one up? My local forecast, 5 days (free)?? Thank You so much for at least getting my forwarding back up.

I’m not looking towards to JUST have the forwarding working. But the alerts you can set up on the site, also. The service is very nice. I want to be able to set up the forwarding as much as the alerts to actually get to my cell. I’m really looking towards it. As for now, I followed the link you gave, and made sure my phone is not associated with the AIM/AOL Mobile service. Should I reregister the device, but be totally signed out of the server at that time? And reconfigure the alert and forwarding? Is that what you would like me to try??
P.S. I try to get in touch with you over Y!, but we seem to miss each other all of the time. I’ll keep on trying to catch you.

I sent one. I got one back, it reads: “Service that associate a Screen Name with your phone have been stopped. But you can receive messages from AOL IM that are addressed to your phone number”. What do I need to do next??

From what I can see, unlocked phones can present some challenges at times. I can also see that AIM/AOL IM forwarding seems inconsistent across many different carriers and types of phones.
You did not indicate if you have followed the steps as outlined on the AOL help pages. They also say if you need to “release” your number so that you can change it, or in your case – perhaps try again to set it up – you need to send them a blank txt message. Have you done this before trying again? Otherwise re-doing the confirmation number isn’t going to make any difference.
I also found that if the AOL system thinks you are signed in anywhere else, like a computer or mobile AOL application, it will not do any forwarding as text. When you tried to set this up – do you know if your contacts could actually see you as mobile? There should have been a mobile icon by your name.
If AOL sees you as mobile, then it’s a carrier/phone issue. If AOL doesn’t see you as mobile, then either the registration isn’t working, or the system does not recognize you as being fully signed out everywhere else.
“”release” your number” – How do I release my number?? This is VERY VERY VERY might be it!! Before (when it worked) I was using HTC MDA, and it was working perfect. Ever since I got a new phone and simply reregistered my device, I have been facing this. A VERY LONG TIME ALREADY!! Please help me with “release” my number. Thank You!!!!!

“Blank TXT Message” to what number should I send it to??

Hello and welcome to BBB! The Wing appears capable of connecting directly to AOL for IM. Is there a reason you want to forward to text messaging instead?
Can I assume you have verified and are paying for any data and/or text plans as required for your phone?
Have you followed all of the steps outlines here? If you have the appropriate data/messaging plans on your phone, and are located in the U.S., I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t be working for you.
Are you able to receive mobile alerts from any other sources? Or is AOL the only one you have tried?
Hi. Reason – I don’t have the application on my phone anymore is: I really use an Unlocked HTC device (same version as the T-Mo Wing), even when I did, whenever my phone was set to “Vibrate” mode, the new IM notification would be silent. Next – I want forwarding, not to be logged in the service 24/7 and drain my battery. Yes, that drains your battery about 70x times faster, rather then to just have the PDA on. + I really want to set up a mobile alert also. My local weather forecast. Every day at 11 AM. AOL/AIM Mobile Service offers that feature on the same page where you configure your forwarding. Thank You For Your Help.
