Booting is a problem, especially for teenage kids with nothing better to do than mess with people. You can get booted out of the Yahoo chat rooms, but you can also get booted out of Yahoo PMs.

How does this work? Well, Yahoo Messenger allows some HTML code. That’s what makes the colors, faders and other special tricks work. Unfortunately, it’s also what lets deviants use to boot you. They can put in the right HTML code and cause your Yahoo Messenger to crash.

Fortunately, there is an antidote. Open the filter1.txt file with Notepad. You’ll find it in the Yahoo folder (usually C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger).

Add these words to the filter1.txt file:
<snd,<alt, <url=, <font, <fade, <a, , <body, <iframe, <frame, src=, <img, , url(, onLoad=, http://, www, <embed

That should keep you safe from booters.

What’s the downside? Well, you’ll now see font size, fade codes, etc. in the messages (if someone is using them). But you won’t get booted.

though there are lots of chat clients and filters out there that will help in preventing you from being booted, nothing is un-bootable, i dont care who you are, or what you run, there is always something out there that can hit you, the best protection that i have found is to run a chat client, and use “ychat” disable your p.m.’s or only allow your friends to p.m. you, but if the booter is serious about it, and they know what they are doing they can still hit you.
