Edit: Ignore above …. See post below.
SashaaMemberYahoo have replied to me with a ‘solution’. I have not tested it but for those interested, here it is.
“Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Messenger.
We are truly sorry to know that you are unable to use (‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy New Year’ as your status messages.
Sashaa, in order to resolve your issue, you must manually delete the “Messenger” directory on your C: drive (default installation location), then reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application. “
They then go into step by step instructions for doing the above and finish by saying,
“Again Sashaa, if this doesn’t resolve your problem, please just reply to this email and tell us that a complete uninstall and reinstall of the software has not resolved your issue. We’ll be happy to look into the problem for you.
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.”
I hope that this enlightens and helps others. :p

SashaaMemberMy friends in USA told me that it didnt work for some Halloween status messages either.
Edit: It may work through Yahelite, but no one I know has got it to work through Yahoo Messenger yet.

SashaaMemberThank you all for your answers. So it appears to be that its close to impossible unless you have access to the records of an ISP.
Most helpful.
SashaaMemberTo get back to the questions I asked
Statement 1. Broadband is not the one that logs a different IP each time you log in…….Dial-up is. Broadband logs the same IP for a period of up to 2 weeks…..it is not technically static IP.
Is this right?Statement 2. Most people think that they can get away with things using web-based e-mail because tracing it goes directly back to the server and not to their computer. I’m here to tell you folks, that is the wrong answer. There are very simple ways to trace an e-mail back to the actual server, and the actual computer.
Is it possible for someone to trace back to my actual computer thru knowing my IP address? We are talking about you and me types of people, not law enforcement people.
Statement 3. In one case it took me a few hours. The long and short of it is, in a very short period of time I had his actual server id, the computer id, and the name and phone number of the person to whom the license key was listed to.
Is this possible for someone to do this to you and me types of people ?
Thanks.
SashaaMemberAny other opinions on this please ?
SashaaMemberChat Hacking Myths
– This web site has a lot of good info.
http://www.webhazard.com/html/chat__hack__myths.html
(I realise this relates to yahoo chat, but a lot of the advice is common to other chat species as well as caring for your ID)
SashaaMemberHas anyone heard anything more about Yahoo user rooms. I heard this rumour the other day.
“That yahoo Group user rooms are being dismantled and shut down, and wont be reopened by yahoo, and that yahoo are releasing boot codes that are computer generated by them in an effort to stop activity in these rooms…. the computer generated boot codes are assosciated with ID’s similar to kobsyqr57c4oz3ux7l29i7tf1w8saf8h* “
Anyone heard similar ?
I found this posted on a web page by someone ……
quote…
” As i said in my last email to the group, i have
personally talked to yahoo officials by phone to see
if any information could be obtained as to why this
boot code flooding is occurring, and if O/our user
rooms would be coming back, and if so, when.
Yahoo has said, that with a multi million dollar
class action suit againest them, and bcs of the hard
financial strain they have endured bcs of numerous
large sponsors pulling out of yahoo, such as Pepsi,
and others, that yahoo has to do whatever they can to
satisfy both legal parties involved in this situation,
and sponsors they still have, as yahoo said, they can
not endure the financial strain of loosing any more
sponsors.
Yahoo thought of how they could assure that all
adult rooms could not be entered by A/anyone of
illegal age without it affecting other user rooms ,
such as music, science, etc rooms, where any age is
suitable, as these are not considered rooms of an
illeciet nature, and it was determined that this could
not be done, without it affecting all user rooms, both
adult as well as friendly rooms. They said, they are
working on a way to make this work without it
affecting non adult rooms, and when and if they can
come up with a way, user rooms would be restored, but,
it did not seem apparent that this would be any time
soon, if at all.
The extreme boot code flooding W/we all have
experienced, IS being done by yahoo,ACCORDING TO YAHOO
OFFICIALS, computer generated, as stated in my last
email, to empty user made user rooms formed in ways,
such as group rooms to elimanate user rooms, which, as
they said, can be entered without supervision, as
these user rooms W/we have formed, such as O/ours, can
still be entered by underage ppl, and their legal
staff has said, this useage of these rooms, like
O/ours, would not be something that their current
sponsors would tolerate, and, legal wise, would not
satisfy the parties involved in this class action suit
bought againest them….this ACCORDING TO YAHOO
DIRECTLY !!!!!!!
i hope this answers any and all questions as to the
unfortunate events that have taken over O/our freedom
to chat…THESE ARE THE FACTS, NOT GUESSES DIRECT FROM
YAHOO, NOT BY ASSUMPTION OR GUESSES……”
unquote.
What do you think ?
SashaaMemberThanks, for the tips. Tried them. But its still happening. Any other ideas ?
SashaaMemberI know of ID’s that have been showing as online for over a week when the person has not been there.
In these cases, it was caused by the person chatting on their mobile phone and being cut off (flat battery) or not logging off properly.
One time it showed that they were connected on mobile, the other times it hasnt shown this.
There other reasons, Yahoo glitches included.
