MemberServer-side scripts like CGI, ASP, and PHP require a server to process them per request, and since AIM just pulls the file from your hard drive, no such script can be used. And to further increase the problem, the HTML that AIM does support is little. The best solution is to put a link to your server directing AIM to load your profile in the profile window. For example:
(Take note of ‘target=”_self”‘). This allows the server to process all the script upon each users’ click (and AIM is completely oblivious to this), and since it’s a link, there’s no size limit. The code would also have to be put in directly to the file on your hard drive, since coding HTML such as the above in AIM’s profile editor doesn’t work very well. 🙂 I’ve actually got an ASP coded profile using this setup. 😀

MemberA router is a NAT firewall. Only way to get around the NAT completely is to enable DMZ (which can only be used on one computer naturally). The problem occurs when inbound connections are attempted, since the router doesn’t know which computer to send them to. The seeming solution is to forward port 4443 (AIM’s direct connection port) to your computer’s LAN’s IP address. This will also require that the computer not use DHCP so that it’s IP address is static. Sorry this may all go over your head, but try to play around with things. 🙂
Glossary:
NAT– network address translation– allows for multiple computers off the same IP address
DMZ– demilitarized zone– forwards ALL ports to a specified computer
LAN– local area network
IP– internet protocol
DHCP– dynamic host configuration protocolTier0ne
MemberQuote:quote:It is set back automatically everytime, you cannot change it.Yeah, it’s reset every time you sign in. On NT-based machines (NT, Win2k, XP) you can deny yourself (and thus AIM) permission to modify the value, but these days it’s hard-coded anyways, so it’s pointless. But for fun:
Run regedt32 (not regedit!). Go to the previously mentioned Buddy key. Modify MaxBuddies to say 1000. Then, select the Buddies key. In the security menu, click permission. Click the advanced button. Deny Administrators and/or any of your users Set Value, Create Subkey, Create Link, Delete, Write DAC, and Write Owner. Remember to set this back if you ever want to change the value again (since you’ve just denied yourself modify permissions after all). And once again this only works for older versions of AIM.
