MemberYou won’t be able to set static IP address manually unless you have a static IP from Comcast which you stated you don’t have, and from what I’ve read on the internet comcast don’t provide static IP to their customers. So ignore my previous posts, and sorry if I caused any miscommunication.
Nor will you be able to setup port forwarding, because port forwarding requires static IP,I’m not sure what you can do at this stage, your best bet would be to contact your ISP and ask them if they could allow communication on those ports I mentioned ealier, yahoo ports. It could be a traffic issue,inbound-outbound.Do you use yahoo messenger on both computers?Or just one?

MemberYou will probably have to disable dhcp first before assigning static IP’s to both computers,,but before you can start configuring your gateway you will have to contact your ISP and ask if any static IP’s have been assigned to your Internet account as pointed out earlier by hatedjealously.Revert back to your previous settings, use the first link I provided earlier to get back to your TCP/IP settings and tick obtain IP address automatically, and obtain dns server automatically.
When you find out from your ISP if you have a static IP assigned, then you can continue configuring your gateway. As you said it may not be a connection issue at all,it could simply be a messenger issue.

MemberI suggest you have a look at http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm for setting up a static IP in windows xp,also have a look at http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Comcast/WCG200-CC/Yahoo_P2P_Instant_Messages.htm so you can forward the relivant ports(once you have the static IP setup)to that static IP address,(ie)port range from 5000-5010 for voice chat,5101 for yahoo instant messaging.
Hope this information helps.
edit** not sure if you have a -CC wireless,I believe the second link is for a WCG200-CC wireless, but I could be wrong.

MemberHeavenly wrote:So it is not true that if the person blocks you you never see her online and if the person just deletes you you see her online??!?you have to remove the person from your buddy list in order to add them to the ignore list in yahoo preferences, when you add them to the ignore list you will not show up as online on their list,so they won’t be able to see if you’re online anymore(unless your web profile shows when you’re online)and you won’t see if they are online either because you removed them from your list.
Basically no you won’t be able to see when they are online if they remove you add you to their ignore list.

MemberAre you mac or windows operating system?I’m assuming you’re mac by the norton firewall(mac)link you provided.I’ve never been a big fan of norton personally but thats not to say its not a good firewall.Any firewall is better than no firewall. It should provide good protection provided its setup correctly, ideally you should be looking at stealthed ports or closed ports,no open ports unless you open them yourself.
If you have come to the conclusion that you have a hacker on your tail via using netstat then you probably should consider looking up the IP addresses or port numbers first before assuming its a hacker.
example from netstat -an command:
TCP 192.1**.*.*:1040 83.*.27.*:6885 ESTABLISHED
192.1**.*.*: represents my IP, 1040 and 6885 repesents the ports,83.*.27.* represents the destination IP,outside world IP,in this case I’m using a P2P client(torrent)to download files from a host @ 83.*.27.* .. etc etc…Established are live connections meaning that the port is open,is used by a program or process, you would need to keep an eye on established connections because if you didnt allow the connection, open the port yourself then someone may have opened it from the outside world. There are many sites on the net which do IP lookups whoiswho,so in this case I would put in 83.*.27.* , and traceroute the IP to find out the location of the attacker.Having said that hackers are not stupid, and they would mask their true IP address,by using proxies(false IP’s)
# Well Known Ports These run from 0 to 1023, and are bound to the common services that run on them (for example, mail runs on channel 25 tcp/udp, which is smtp (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) so if you find one of these ports open (and you usually will), it’s usually because of an essential function.
# Registered Ports These run on 1024 to 49151. Although not bound to a particular service, these are normally used by networking utilities like FTP software, Email client and so on, and they do this by opening on a random port within this range before communicating with the remote server, so don’t panic (just be wary, perhaps) if you see any of these open, because they usually close automatically when the system that’s running on them terminates (for example, type in a common website name in your browser with netstat open, and watch as it opens up a port at random to act as a buffer for the remote servers). Services like MSN Messenger and ICQ usually run on these Ports.
# Dynamic/Private Ports Ranging from 49152 to 65535, these things are rarely used except with certain programs, and even then not very often. This is indeed the usual range of the Trojan, so if you find any of these open, be very suspicious.
So generally speaking the higher port numbers are the ones to be supicous of.But thats not the say that the hacker won’t use lower numbered ports as well. The fact you’re on dialup means that this person can only retrieve information while you are online(dialled up),as opposed to dsl or cable-which is always on.
If you setup norton firewall to stealth or close all ports, and use medium settings on inbound and outbound traffic then you should be ok.If you have scanned your machine with AVG and found no virus’s then you are probably ok,AVG also picks up keyloggers if present. But it doesnt hurt to use some of the online AV scanners, like norton security or trendmicro just for a second opinion.
Of course your account may have just been cracked, using a cracking program and a password list(which doesnt need to be connected to your computer to work),in which case you should change your password and any other important information on that account.
sorry for the length of this post.

MemberIt could be someone on your buddy list just messing with you,if you havent been in chat rooms in years then it would be harder for chat room spammers to locate you but not impossible. What type of pm’s are we talking about here? Are they just received pms like “hey I seen you in **** room, add me to your list,or visit my link” or do they look like replies.Check your archives.Worse case scenario, you have been keylogged but I doubt it as your account would probably be gone by now, that is unless they wanted to keep track of your conversations secretly,AVG is a good scanner and it should pick up any keylogger if there is one present, but you could go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ just for a second check.

To undo it I guess you’ll have to save the nickname to notepad or some text file before you decide to use the above 0160 method and then paste the nickname back in there and save it again. There might be another way of doing it but I don’t know of any.
Delete whatevers in nickname box – hold alt and using the keypad(located to the far right of your keyboard)type 0160 and release alt, then click save & close, should work, thats how I do it.

use to drop down to find chinese mainland and hit finished,

You will notice I switched from YAHOO US to Yahoo-United kingdom before switching to chinese-china(mainland)because I can’t change to chinese-mainland when I switch directly from Yahoo-US,probably because I’m using a european IP address on a yahoo US account, not sure why exactly
You may be able to switch directly from Yahoo-US to chinese-mainland,if so ignore what I wrote above this:
Also make sure you hit finished when you do change to chinese-mainland:

Be warned though,if you cant navigate the profile page when in chinese you will be left with a chinese account,so be very careful,
good luck. 🙂

MemberIf firewall with no proxies connection setting in yahoo preferences is selected then you won’t be able to use voice. To turn it off go to yahoo messenger preferences/connection and select the no proxies option, hit apply and restart yahoo messenger.

Do u think that is possible between two different countries?I have a fire wall on my pc too..Does that work good?
I will uncheck the enable archiving thing too.. Thank so much membernc!
Yes its possible to remotely connect to a single user PC anywhere in the world, but its not easy. The hacker needs an IP address for starters,it depends on the form of attack as well,Netbios attacks are a commonly used method to obtain a computers identity and then the hacker would try to find a backdoor into the target computer.RAS(remote access service or remote access server)is another method but is a little more tricky. It also depends on your firewall setup,if all your ports are closed or stealthed(which is better security)that also makes it harder to gain access. Also your IP renews everyday(changes on a daily basis)so that also makes it harder to track it down, but not impossible.
The latest windows updates would help secure your pc even more,it depends on which operating system you are using. Also make sure your ports are not open.
Use the shields up test at https://www.grc.com/,which performs a simple port scan to see if your ports are closed or open or stealthed.Or try symantecs online security scan at http://security.symantec.com/ to check that all your ports are closed or at best stealthed. All this probably isnt neccessary but just for peace of mind I would suggest you check everything.
If you are infected with a keylogger or a trojan and your anti virus doesnt pick it up then you could go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and use the free online scanner just to double check.
Some people say netstat -n command in command prompt isnt good for picking up dodgy stuff but I personally like using it to monitor the ports on my PC,if you have a dodgy server running, collecting information on your computer then more than likely netstat -n will show its name and which port its running on,.If you dont know how to use netstat then google it.
As stated earlier anti spyware software like Spybot search & destroy, lavasoft, webroot, all pick up most keyloggers.
If you havent taken your pc to a repair shop as yet,I would suggest you ask them to check your computer with their scanners if you are unsure yourself.Good luck

MemberJust one thing to note you can actually rejoin the chat server once you have all bots connected to the voice server, this may not be available on all mass iggy programs, but on STB(made by markus) when you first log bots into chat the “Bots Stay in The Room” option on STB is unticked before connecting to the voice server
Once the bots are in voice, the chat login option can be used again “Bots Stay in The room” option should be used before using the chat login option again,All the bots will now re-log into the room but they won’t leave.
Another option on STB is the “master bot” option used in conjuntion with “Engage RoomFill” option which can be assigned to 1 bot to keep watch of other users that leave a room, the master bot can call/command any other bots(which may have gone to other yahoo rooms because a room has filled)to return to the original room when a slot opens up/a user leaves, hence they keep a room full.
Sorry if that sounded like a sales pitch lol
edit*** a second instance of STB can used at the same time to make sure the chat stays filled, but you obviously need more socks5 proxies and bots.
tinethle
MemberGenerally its done by loading bot lists(lots of Yahoo ID’s created using an I’d maker)onto a voice program but the problem now is that yahoo only allow one IP per connection,so you need to get your hands on socks4 or socks5 proxies because they are harder to ban than regular proxies(good working socks5 proxies are hard to get).
Loading these bots into rooms can either cause the room to fill up(in which case it makes it harder for other people to join that room)or they can take the mic/voice,as for non voice bots I’ve not seen any working exploits at the moment which allow multiple bots to enter a room, because of the IP restrictions, but then I havent been in rooms that much anymore. And if a person does decide to run a program without using proxies then those bots will be banned immediately and your IP will also be blocked for 24 hours or whatever length of time.

Membersorry snake218,I did indeed misunderstand you,I seem to be doing that a lot these days lol. I was unaware that yahooplus allowed international servers on YM(US).
But thank you for the info.

MemberIts not possible to change chat servers using yahoo messenger(american version)only american chat servers(english servers)are pre programmed into the yahoo messenger american version. You will have to use yahoo messenger(mexican version)or argentinian version if you want to use foreign servers,
Or use yahelite or yazak because they are third party clients and are not contracted to yahoo so they are programmed with all servers included.
I answered you question in another topic, use the /join (roomname) command if you want to get to the foreign rooms using yahoo messenger(american version)because there is no program you can add to yahoo american version that will allow you change to international servers.
January 8, 2006 at 11:34 pm in reply to: Using different Yahoo chat servers (other countries) #135795tinethle
MemberType the /join (roomname) command into the box where you normally post a chatroom message when you are using yahoo messenger(american version)
example would be
/join Deportes extremos:1 (hit enter)this should bring you straight to Deportes extremos:1 (Argentina room) just an example
If you don’t know the international room names you want to go to there is a program called YahRool http://www.helpbytes.co.uk/yahrools/default.htm which gathers the international room lists or you could use yahelite or yazak to get the room names either,I don’t know about the setup on yazak too well, but on yahelite roomlist screen at the bottom left it says “to clipboard”,when you have selected the international room you want to go to-highlight it and click to clipboard find somewhere on you computer to paste the room name,I normally use a text file,or wordpad, and paste in there.
One other thing I forgot to mention in the example room above I deleted the full extension on the room Deportes extremos:1 ,the full room I copied from yahelite roomlist was Deportes extremos:1::1609535631 so I deleted ::1609535631 and used only Deportes extremos:1
If you get room error messages try deleting the extentions and try again,
Hope this helped and sorry if I did not explain it very well.good luck
