Over the past few days, Microsoft has started to upgrade all users of previous versions of Windows Live Messenger (WLM) 2009 builds to the newest version 14.0.8064.0206. Within time, versions 8.1 and 8.5 will be obligatory as well.
If and when you upgrade via the prompt from WLM, the entire Windows Live Essentials bundle is downloaded and updated as well.
To manually download and update to the latest version of WLM, check out the official site.

Apparently there isn’t any noticeable changes other than potential bug fixes etc.

Probably a secret fix for some type of client exploit which hasn’t been mentioned. 😉

OK I put off doing the upgrade (from 8.5) and eventually gave in with the constant upgrade messages, so installed it. From what I have read I was luckier than some as it worked first try:-). The only prob was me, I like my PC to be quick, the new WLM 14 made the PC run up time increase 25% was this some sort of joke, it had to go! It took a lot of reading to find out how to uninstall and more importantly revert to 8.5 then work around the update message. I still find it hard to believe that it has less fetures but slows you down, but will I move to it when they finally get it working-NO. If they do find a way to force me then its hello Yahoo 9.
PS Anyone having problems and want to do this google “zapmessenger WLM Deepclean Resource Hacker”.
For info my switch on time was 1m20s to WLM online, but with WLM14 1m42s.
