I saw similar topics to mine but none of the fixes they had worked for me.My yahoo I can see my writing as I type it, but as soon as I click send I can’t see anything, also I can see the person typing a response but cannot see their text once they send it.
I’ve enabled scripting, installed earlier versions, my text is not white, changed my general preferences, disabled my firewall, disabled my anti virus thing, etc. I really don’t know what else to do! This has been a problem for about a week now and I’m at my wits end!
Hey! As others said, i cannot see the text i or others are writing. Also, the archives are empty (even if they`re not). I checked that scripting is enabled in IE, installed other versions of Y Messenger and IE, did the “start/run/regsvr32 jscript.dll and regsvr32 vbscript.dll” thing and the problem persists. What else could i try? Reinstalling windows will be my last solution. I`m running Win7 64bit, had the IE8 and YM8, after updating i`m having IE9beta and YM10. Using ESET NOD32 antivirus.

I have literally tried everything short of reinstalling Windows. I don’t know if this is connnected but I did catch a virus (Trojan 32) around the same time as YIM stopped working. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

MemberFIXED! After months of problems I finally found a solution that worked.
I am quoting text from another forum site: Can’t see text on Yahoo Messenger – TechSpot OpenBoards
“Some virus can cause this bug in Yahoo Messenger. Check your Internet Options, go to Security Tab, and see if there is a new item. Normal items there are Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted sites, and Restricted sites. If you see a new item, chances are you were hit by a virus.
To resolve this, open a registry editor (click Start, click Run. On the Open box, type: regedit and then press Enter). Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Internet Settings Zones
There should only be 5 items there, numbered 0 to 4. If you see a different one, especially if you see items that shows up as box, try deleting it. (Backup your registry first). If you were able to delete that extra item, this might fix the bug, and you will be able to see the chat messages again in yahoo messenger.”
hope this works for someone else!

ParticipantJust remember that editing registry entries improperly can render your computer inoperable. If you are not comfortable in doing so, ask someone to help you.

ParticipantYou are correct that a 5th Registry subkey in the zone registry hive will cause issues for IE Control related software like Yahoo Messenger.
I had a similar issue not too long ago with Yahoo Messenger 11 beta that caused just that, i have Zone 0,1,2,3,4 and one above it just called “L”, this “L” subkey should never have been there, and will cause Yahoo Messenger 11 to just stall on login and show no text in any pm or chat windows.
If you find hovering your mouse over the main buddylist windows shows a running circle mouse cursor and clicking refresh sound then you’re witnessing Messenger trying to connect in an out of Zone condition.
Removing the subkey will remove this issue but as patndoris explained, editing the registry is a dangerous thing to do if you are not sure what you’re doing, however if you’re in doubt, we’ll be happy to help you with it here if the problem arises again in the future.

Memberhmm. I`ve faced the same problem, but I fallow these steps founded here: Technology News and Reviews, Games, How To’s, Free Software Downloads – Device Area » How To Fix Yahoo Messenger If You Can’t See What Are You Typing
and it worked. It’s a very simple procedure. I hope it can help you too.February 26, 2011 at 4:10 am #165463Dermot
ParticipantNo you shouldn’t delete your zones hive in the registry, talk about barbaric.
You will see this…
You will see the invalid node [] at the top!
You need only close messenger, delete that single node then restart messenger.
You should always have 0,1,2,3,4 nodes intact.
These hold all your IE browser settings for surfing and local browser controls, like the IE browser control used in chat clients including the chatscreen and pm windows of yahoo messenger.

ParticipantNowhere above did anybody tell you to delete the Zones folder, just the subfolders in it that are not 0,1,2,3 or 4.
That’s why you’re now having issues.
You may need to re-install Internet explorer to fix it.

MemberI’ve tried everything on BBB. Great website has all the answers but not mine. I’ve tried exactly everything, this is all that i have.
Windows 7, Up to date IE And Firefox, also Yahoo Messenger 11.5. Ive also talked to yahoo help live chat with someone and they told me to do exactly what the online website for yahoo help said to do. my problem with yahoo is i cant see the text in the IM window. and also the emoticons aren’t even there. The voice and voice call isnt even lit up to click. even in yahoo chat rooms for a test to see if it shows up, it didnt work. please help! I’ve tried to do the zones but the zones are just 0-4 there isnt a number or letter before zero.
correction figured it out myself. but this website did help alot for future reference.
