I was excited about this at first, and easily implemented it, but I’ve since discovered two problems. The second is significant enough that I may disregard this Psi/Gtalk method:
1. Loss of contacts. When I switched everything over to Gtalk, I lost a lot of AIM contacts and I hadn’t realized this until I tried to IM some people that weren’t in my list. Now, I’m still missing a lot of contacts.
2. MAJOR: It seems that any AIM user who is not on my buddy list gets their message bounced back at them when they try to IM me. This is a major problem for my IM workflow.
Is there a solution to either of these?
October 13, 2007 at 3:05 am #136994TrickyRickinOKMemberI was already using Psi sometimes.
However. I access the transports from a Jabber account sepreate from my google account and I can’t see how to use those from gtalk. I tried connecting to the gtalk server from Psi without being connected to the gtalk server, and I can browse the service directory from but I can’t register on any of the transports unless my other jabber account it connected.November 17, 2007 at 2:05 pm #136995razausmanMemberHi I have imported all my msn contacts on aszlig.net and I can connect to google talk using psi but my msn contacts have not been exported to google talk.

December 9, 2007 at 4:45 pm #136996gediliMemberHi,
everything worked fine, I can talk with my msn contact using Gmail. When I’m on other computers I talk with then using Gmail page, but I would like when I’m at home to keep using amsn. The problem is if I have gmail open on my browser and amsn running. I got log out of amsn every 5 minutes each time the transport agent reconect to MSN service. Is there away to disable temporarly the transport, so that I can still talk with my google contact on gmail while using amsn for the msn contacts?(Is it possible to disable it without installing any software because I’m travelling in Asia and on most computers in Internet Cafe I only have acess to web browser, except when I connect my USB Drive, and use AMSN)
March 18, 2008 at 8:30 am #136979sampleMemberthe conection with msn and icq works perfect (i don’t have an aol account); i’ve tried also with yahoo, but it was very unstable, the friends on list keep going offline and so on
but i think the problem with the instabilty of the yahoo conection reside in the google chat desktop client; i tried to open the google account with meebo and it shows all the yahoo list beside the msn and icq lists, and having none of the problems encountered on conection using the desktop client
regards
March 18, 2008 at 4:13 pm #136952Jeff HesterKeymasterI experienced similar problems with Yahoo connectivity via GTalk. Please keep in mind that I don’t recommend this technique for day-to-day use. It’s more of a novelty.
April 17, 2008 at 12:11 am #136997brian0618MemberAfter I add my google talk account and go to services discovery. when I browse on Ursine.ca, all I see is Jabber IM Server.
June 8, 2008 at 4:23 pm #136998jcobrerosMemberwhat a mess. So i was trying to add my msn contacts to my gtalk account using psi and some jabber transports. I tried ursine.ca but it didnt show any useful transport, so I tried a couple of them and finally found aszlig.net which has a msn transport at msn.headcounter.org.
After filling my information on the PSI username and password screen i started getting subscription petition from all my msn contacts, except none of them worked.
So i erased msn.headcounter.org from my contacts, hoping that all the 250 petitions would go away. they didnt so I erased them manually.
Now everytime i connect to gtalk i get the 250 petitions even though the transport is not there anymore.
How am I supposed to unregister from that? how does it work in general?
please, any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advanceApril 7, 2009 at 8:11 am #137000walditoMemberI’ve been using Gtalk with all my MSN contacts for almost two years now. I imported successfully my contacts using this tutorial.
Despite of the lack of file transfer between MSN with gtalk… I had to rename my msn contacts onto something more easy than user%[email protected] … but everything was ok. Until one day.. my transporter (Ambrero.nl) just shuted down. I’ve tried registering with other jabber servers the same way I did it before, but no hope: I manage to register with PSI, and connect to both MSN and Gtalk networks. But Gtalk won’t display my MSN contacts no more. Any ideas why? Did Google do anything lately? Does anyone of you have *still* MSN contacts on Gtalk? What am I doing wrong? I’ve followed every tutorial out there, tried with 5 or 6 jabber transporters, two different jabber programs. nada!
April 17, 2009 at 1:36 pm #137001neuronMemberAnyone have a pre setup jabber server for this?
I really wanna use this, but I want my own jabber server (I dont trust random servers on the internet with my password), and I’ve been trying to get it working for hours with no luck whatsoever.
April 22, 2009 at 2:44 pm #136953FanaticMemberneuron, when you say you “want your own jabber server” do you mean you have a server connected to the internet and you’re ready to install and maintain jabber services on it? Or do you mean you’re looking for a jabber server that you can trust and are comfortable using?
When this tutorial was originally written, we used ursine.ca, but several years have passed and it appears that it’s no longer a good source. I’m going to do some checking around and see if we can recommend two or three good alternatives.
April 22, 2009 at 3:41 pm #137002neuronMemberI got my own server, in fact I got plenty.
And I was able to setup a jabber server that worked fine with msn, and I could register from gtalk + psi with service discovery (got that working with both jabberd and ejabberd), but I could never get the “agents/transports” to show up in psi.
I registered on an open jabber site and was able to use my msn transports just fine, no idea why gtalk wont comunicate properly with it.
(seems it can never get the “msn. requests presence in your buddy list” part).
April 25, 2009 at 12:27 am #136999Joe BallMemberHey neuron, welcome to BigBlueBall. This sounds like a great idea, and I’ve been interested in setting up my own Jabber server as well. Any updates on the progress?

Any updates on the progress?Openfire’s main plugin cant do it for technical reasons, it doesn’t allow remote use of it’s transport. So I ended up with pymsnt, I’ve tried that in a combination with jabber, ejabberd and openfire. In all of them it worked from remote jabber servers, but I was unable to get my contacts to show up in gtalk.
I can register fine, but the agents/transports doesn’t get updated. (it seems the “msn.hostname.com” request for presence updates doesn’t get sent for some reason, it could be a dns issue.
June 24, 2009 at 4:40 pm #137004rickyrescueMemberHas there been an update or another solution for this?
I really want to have my AIM contacts on my GTalk, and maybe Live. But mostly AIM. -
