ParticipantThe purpose of this thread is not to incite arguments, it’s not to start fights, nothing of that sort. I want this to remain strictly civil.
I simply want to know what people think, one way or another. Feel free to share your reasoning, but do not start arguing.

ParticipantOption 3 and 4 are the same thing.

ParticipantFor that 3rd one you mean to say that they did nothing to stop it from happening, right?
I’m just trying to help you distinguish between 3 and 4 😛

Participanthmm, perhaps i should have worded that better, but there’s apparently a 100-character limit to poll choices. (and i can’t edit the choices, go figure) Choice 3 can mean that the government helped out in the plan but weren’t the primary party responsible; or that they knew all about it, perhaps encouraged it, but did nothing about it. Not through ignorance of it, but intentionally did nothing to stop it even with full advance knowledge of what would happen.
i’m going to hold off on sharing my own opinion for the moment, i’d like to see a few more responses.

MemberI think it has to be remembered that at the time of 9/11 the security measures implemented as they are today were not the same. The government’s here in the UK and the US were not on the same alert. They were not concentrating on the threat we now know we have to have to deal with everyday.
It is only a year ago that London suffered with the bombings in the city center. If you have been to London especially on the tubes they are always on a high security anyway, and it still happened.
However, yesterday saw the outcome of one of the most amazing work that the security forces do here in the UK and with the help of security officers in Washington. Yesterday the security forces foiled another 9/11. Without them there would have been bombings on flights to Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington and New York. The outcome was the arrest of 24 Muslim terrorists.
9/11 was not a fault in my view of the governments, but it was a wake up call to the UK and the US that times have changed and we will now be targets in this very sad battle for supremacy.

There was evidence the government knew it was going to happen, and chose not to believe it would happen and did nothing to stop it.:(

MemberI don’t blame the government whatsoever.
(Well, not directly – though one might argue their various foreign policies etc “motivated” the terrorists).Sure, after such an event prior warnings will turn up that were “ignored”, but in fact the FBI probable handles millions of various possible warnings.
Hindsight is a great tool! 😉

Participantalright, my opinion is that the government most likely knew about it — probably even helped out somewhat — and stood by doing nothing while it happened. not out of ignorance, not out of helplessness, but deliberately and intentionally. i think there are too many unanswered questions about the events of that day and their aftermath for me to say it was purely terrorists attacking.
i’m not saying the government deliberately murdered thousands of American citizens, but it is definitely possible. I think it’s rather convenient that the events of 9/11 made way for much of what’s going on in the world right now — airline restrictions, numerous wars, our liberties being rather severely restricted, etc. i don’t know that i can chalk it all up to pure governmental ignorance and coincidence.

MemberThe “timing” of that event certainly helped your “new” President’s approval rating! His numbers were rather dismal before that incident. It just seems to be too much of a coincidence.

Memberwooo hold the phones! But are you really suggesting that the government knew it was going to happen and just let it happen.
They knew about 3,000 people were going to die but did it to put up voting totals.. you have got to be kidding right …
Well I was at work and showed this to my colleagues and we are lost for words to be honest! But if you look up there the votes prove it. Us Brits though find that a bit hard to swallow, well at least the ones I talked to.
I actually think you should be ashamed to even think such a thing.
