Germany – Costa Rica 4-2
June 9, 2006 at 6:13 pm #146054Jeff HesterKeymasterIt was an exciting opening match, although the outcome was predictable. Germany executed well, though their predictable strategy may not serve them so well against the tougher teams.
By the way, if you use Google Calendar, do a search for “world cup” and you can add the complete schedule to your calendar.
June 10, 2006 at 12:16 am #146085princeGParticipantPoland – Equador 0-2!
Now that wasn’t really expected, but I was impressed by Equador’s play. Poland was disappointing. I think Germany will have a hard time against against Equador.
Tomorrow’s matches:
England – Paraguay (18:00 CET)
Trinidad & Tobago – Sweden (21:00 CET)June 11, 2006 at 1:49 pm #146086princeGParticipantResults of the second day:
England – Paraguay 1-0
Trinidad & Tobago – Sweden 0-0
Argentina – Cote d’Ivore 2-1June 11, 2006 at 2:29 pm #146077sarahtownyMemberI saw we won, my son came running into the garden with his little flag waving, sadly I was busy getting a tan … oh the chore of it! :0)
June 12, 2006 at 12:08 am #146087princeGParticipantI actually got disappointed by England, maybe it’s too soon to judge but that first game wasn’t very promising =/ It’s one of the teams I expect to go high in this tournament (finally!)
We have results for the third day though:
Netherlands – Serbia & Montenegro 1-0
Mexico – Iran 3-1
Angola – Portugal 0-1Tomorrow is USA’s first match against Czech Republic 😉
That’s a tough one guys. Even though Usa is not really famous for their soccer talent, I’m always interested in every world cup to see the progess they have made, and in 2002 they reached the quarter finals.June 12, 2006 at 12:44 am #146127BShink21MemberUpdate us on the USA match I’m interested in who wins.=) Thanks in advance.
June 12, 2006 at 2:21 pm #146119MrEggsaladParticipantI can’t wait to see either. I’ve been keeping up on all this as well. Haha…that only goal that was in England’s favor was a self goal by Paraguay :p The Mexico-Iran was good as well, especially when Mexico made like two goals in 2 minutes. So now today, USA is up. U-S-A, U-S-A 😉
June 12, 2006 at 2:55 pm #146088princeGParticipantOmg what a match, Australia – Japan 3-1!
Just 5 minutes before the end Japan was ahead 0-1 and then the aussies scored 3 goals in 5 minutes!
June 12, 2006 at 3:34 pm #146048Jeff HesterKeymasterI haven’t missed any of the games. I LOVE the World Cup!!! I wish I was in Germany watching them. I just saw the Australia – Japan game and that was just crazy. I can’t believe Australia pulled through right near the end. It was incredible. Now for the USA game that’ll be up in a bit. WOOT.
Say princeG, why don’t you edit the first post according to the results of every game? I think it would be easier to keep up with to see who lost and won and by how much.
June 12, 2006 at 6:03 pm #146118MrEggsaladParticipantThat was an embarassing loss by USA. 3 – 0. USA had so many chances they just threw away…man. They need to beat Italy now. I feel they just gave up towards the end, only seemed a few kept fighting.
June 12, 2006 at 6:10 pm #146047Jeff HesterKeymasterThat was terrible. USA didn’t even look like they were trying. Before the end of the 1st part I was almost asleep. Oh well on to the next game.
June 12, 2006 at 6:24 pm #146137PolarBearNPRParticipantWell, no surprise there, but the USA could have at least put on a show like they wanted to win, and deserved to be in the competition. But, it is fun to see players who are really into the game even if the competition is, well, weak.
June 12, 2006 at 10:09 pm #146089princeGParticipantThe competition is anything but weak. Surely you cant compare it to past competitions where legend players participated, but it’s the biggest sports event that everyone waits with anticipation every 4 years.
USA – Czech Replublic 0 -3
I saw the first half only cause then I had to work. Usa had the boll possesion but without really getting dangerous for the opponent except for one major chance when the ball hit the post. The Czechs have a good team and they scored some great goals, but they didn’t convince me with their performance. But they were the favourite and they proved it. Usa has to try a lot if they want to get at least the 2nd place and qualify.
Italy – Ghana 2-0
Now THAT’s a match! Italy was impressive and they could easily score more goals, but Ghana on the other hand lost at least 5 chances.
Generally so far we’ve seen some GREAT goals, top class finishing. I can’t wait for Brazil’s match tomorrow against Croatia =)
And btw, I prefer to post about every day’s results cause if i just edit the first post not many will notice it, the thread won’t keep going and eventually die.
When the first round is completed though I’ll post the final standings of every group and all the results. -
