I was referring to the USA team’s effort as weak. They just didn’t seem to be driven to win. They did catch a few breaks but couldn’t captialize on them.
The rest of the games that I’ve been able to watch have been lots of fun; truly passionate players giving it their all.:woot:
June 13, 2006 at 12:45 am #146128BShink21MemberNot surprising that the USA lost since we don’t have a very strong soccer team. But eh what do you expect in a country that revolves around football.
June 13, 2006 at 2:22 am #146055Jeff HesterKeymasterI’m disappointed that USA didn’t do better. It’s my fault… I wasn’t watching the game. 🙁
June 13, 2006 at 2:33 am #146061detn8rParticipantI’m looking forward to the game tomorrow with Korea and Togo. My boss being Korean, is going downtown with his wife and family to watch it in Little Korea.
Korea being runners up in the last turnament, it should be fun to watch — especially if their loose 😀
June 13, 2006 at 11:10 pm #146090princeGParticipantThen I guess you got disappointed today detn8r, cause Korea beat Togo 2-1.
France – Switzerland 0 -0
France was simply bad. Not even close to that great passionate team of 1998 when they won the trophy. Their team is full of old players that no one can understimate their value, but, they just cant anymore.
Brazil – Croatia 1-0
If there’s one team in this match that won the impressions, that must have been Croatia. Brazil didn’t impress. In fact it kinda disappointed. Their goal though was top class.
Today we saw 3 goals scored from a wide distance (2 from Korea and one from Brazil). That proves the fact that I stated in IRC chat. The ball is somewhat lighter than the usual and that makes shots easier from a distance and going straight into the net. GOAL =D
Tomorrow we’re going to see Spain vs. Ukraine, Tunisia vs. Saudi Arabia and the beginning of the second matches in this groups phase: Germany vs. Poland
GO ESPAÑA!!

Click on the links and on the page that comes up click on “Video Highlights”

I was able to catch glimpses of the France-Switzerland game (yawn) and the first half of Brazil-Croatia. I’ve got to agree. Croatia held their own against what most people consider the best team out there.
Croatia seemed more aggressive, with Brazil relying more on finesse and footwork. I wondered if Brazil really just used the game as a warm-up.
June 14, 2006 at 9:11 pm #146073Hurricane22491MemberI just caught the last 20-some minutes of the Germany v. Poland game, which ended 1-0 with a goal by Germany in the 92nd (91st?) minute. Germany had some great chances from what I saw, and were just unlucky. It would have been disappointing for them to lose after all those chances though.
June 14, 2006 at 9:36 pm #146092princeGParticipantToday’s results:
Spain – Ukraine 4-0:
Yeees, that was just a sample of what this team can do!Tunisia – Saudi Arabia 2-2:
The Tunisians managed to equalize in the 93rd minute! Too bad for the Arabs, if they had kept the victory they would most likely qualify already.Germany – Poland 1-0:
I just dont like Germany! From all the years that I remember them, they always used to score in the last minutes, typical them today, scored in 91st after a bad game. They might lost a few chances for sure, but their playing style was for yawning today.June 14, 2006 at 10:44 pm #146093princeGParticipantLet’s not forget the highlights
June 15, 2006 at 2:21 am #146049Jeff HesterKeymasterGreat games today! I enjoyed each of the ones today. They all kept me on my feet. I was impressed by Spain’s skills. Just wow! Tunisia and Saudi Arabia did great. Each team showed a lot of effort and Germany v Poland was my favorite match today. I was going for Poland but oh well I have to hand it to Germany who was really on the offensive throughout the game. I was laughing when during the same attempt a goal two players both hit the top pole of the goal.
I love this game!
June 15, 2006 at 2:35 am #146120MrEggsaladParticipantIf Spain keeps playing as they did then they might have a shot. I felt that yesterday Brazil was a bit overconfident, and if they keep that up I bet Spain could beat them. Plus, I mean…four goals is quite a lot. Very nice work from them.
June 15, 2006 at 7:23 am #146078sarahtownyMemberOk don’t fall down and faint but I actually watched Germany v Poland. Top match though, (even if I don’t know what the heck is going on!). My kids basically pinned me down to make me watch, that’s my excuse and I am sticking to it!:p
As Miami said when Germany hit the goal post twice it was like, ohhhh such fun haha
I do think German deserved to win that match. Dare not say that to loud, or my work colleagues might beat me up!
So, anyway at least I am trying to get interested… trying trying trying!;)
June 15, 2006 at 10:58 pm #146094princeGParticipant/me faints. Sarah, I don’t know if you watched Engand’s match today, but I will disappoint you to say that I consider it -so far- one of the worst teams of the tournament
Today’s results:
Equador – Costa Rica 3-0With this victory Equador already qualified along with Germany to the next round, now we only have to see who whill finish 1st and who 2nd in this group.. Equador is impressive! They totally deserved this.
England – Trinidad & Tobag 2-0
Two goals in the last minutes after a really sloppy playing. No fantasy in their game, what they do is just trying to find with long balls the forward from the middle of the field and just that. And if one of them is good and the forward catches a good header, they score. That’s all, sorry but England doesn’t have it for me. I must admit the second goal though was class. England qualified to the next round with this win.
Sweden – Paraguay 1-0
They managed to score in the last minute as well, but at least we saw some movement, some action. Most likely Sweden will follow England to the next round.

Argentina – Serbia & Montenegro 6-0
Wow this team is just super! Some really attractive football from Argentina, I just couldn’t get enough of it. They’re fast, extremely skilled, they do great combinations, and have top class finishing. A++!
Netherlands – Ivory Coast 2-1
If there’s one unfair result today, this is the one. Ivory Coast not only deserved to at least tie, but win as well. Holland after the first 2 goals they just sat back and waited for the others. I’m sure they’ll have nightmares tonight and thank God that they didnt eat a bunch of goals. It’s a shame for a team like Ivory Coast that they wont proceed to the next phase, they scored a great goal as well..
Mexico – Angola 0-0
It wasn’t as bad as the score shows, Angola’s goalkeeper saved the unsavable lol, mexico had only one opponent tonight: This keeper, and that’s why they couldn’t score.
Highlights
Argentina – Serbia & Montenengro 6-0 (enjoy!)
Netherlands – Ivory Coast 2-1
Mexico – Angola 0-0
Good luck my American friends for tomorrow’s -extremely hard- match against Italy =]
