Participant:crying: :crying:
Spain – France 1-3I hate to say this but France deserved to qualify, I got disappointed by Spain, they do have a talent by they still need lots of practice comparing to the expirienced Frenchies.. Good game by France, and snif for Espana for one more big competition..
Brazil – Ghana 3-0
Don’t be fooled by the final score, I think Ghana deserved something more from this game. Brazil looked like they would score only when they felt like it and they did it. Because it was Ghana that had mostly the ball’s possession, attacked more times and missed a couple of good chances. Oh, and Brazil’s second goal should never count of course, it was a clear offside.
But that’s the thing, Brazil can play a few miutes of good football and take a match, no other team has that.Spain – France highlights
Brazil – Ghana highlightsSo here are the quarter finals:
Germany – Argentina
England – Portugal
Italy – Ukraine
Brazil – FranceOn Friday we’ll see Germany vs. Argentina and Italy vs. Ukraine. The winners of these matches are going to battle it out for a place in the semifinals.
On Saturday we have England vs. Portugal and Brazil vs. France. Same here, the winners of these two will meet in the semifinals.
Exciting games :woot: Let’s see if Brazil will take revenge for that 3-0 in 1998’s final against the Frenchies, if Argentina will kick out the hosts or Germany make one more step to the trophy, if Italy will prove that they are the favourite against the surprise of this cup, Ukraine, and if England will take advantage of Portugal’s many significant player absences.

MemberAt practice today a couple of us and the coach were talking about the world cup and we really like Brazil because of their quickness.=)

ParticipantQuarter finals, today’s results:
Germany – Argentina 4-2 in penalty shoot out. The match ended 1-1, then extra time followed and then penalty kicks where Germany prevailed 4-2.
Italy – Ukraine 3-0
Comments on Germany-Argentina:
I’m very upset for the following reasons:
1)The first half was extremely disappointing, Argentina didnt even make a shot and Germany did just a header. Boring for that level.
2)Second half was better, Argentina took the lead quite early and then what did they do? Aaall of the team went back and got settled inside their box waiting for the Germans. Well sooner or later they’d eat the goal with that tactic.Defensive football is NOT Argentina’s style
3)Why the heck didn’t their coach put in MESSI to play??! This player IS the biggest talent right now, all the soccer fans were waiting to see him play in this so crucial match and he stayed in bench.
4)The referees. It was more than obvious, especially in the last 20 minutes that they were pushing Germany to try and equalize and also not let Argentina score another. There was a point where the ball hit the hand of a German defender inside their box, which means penalty kick against them. There wasnt a single replay, not one from the German tv to show it again in slow motion. I wonder why?!..
5)Yes I was with Argentina, and they disappointed me overall. The referres is not a real reason they lost, but I had much bigger expectations from Argentina.. ๐Comments on Italy-Ukraine:
Not realy much to comment here, Italy wasn’t THAT better than Ukraine as the final score shows. Ukraine missed some amazing chances to equalize when the score was still 1-0. But the logic in soccer says that the favourite wins. (Not really)
The first semifinal will be Germany vs. Italy
Tomorrow we’ll know the other 2 teams.
England vs. Portugal
Brazil vs. FranceJuly 1, 2006 at 1:03 am #146067Oreo
MemberThey really are taking out all of the non-european teams!!!! (Hee hee hee..I had to write that..it drives my husband nuts when people say that!)

MemberI wanted Germany to win over Argentina, and the little fight they had after the match did not surprise me one bit, sad when people cannot deal with losing!
Well although I am not a massive fan of football. I am holding an England football party this afternoon in the garden. It’s a boiling hot day, and have even got myself an England bikini, :p So 8 girlfriends are coming over to either celebrate or drown our sorrows! Whatever happens it’s going to be a great afternoon.
I know what your saying, “That Sarah, any reason for a party” … and you know what if you are saying that, your dead right! ๐
*whoosh of I go to get the BBQ food ready* ๐
Oh might I add before I dash off, gave our friend princeg a rep point for keeping us updated with all the world cup info, and his little after match updates. Top job!

ParticipantI was hoping for Argentina…and I was disappointed. Anyways, I will be watching the match with England coming up today, same with Brazil against France. Should be a good game.

KeymasterWow, a couple of surprises today! Good thing I didn’t bet on today’s games, because I would’ve picked England over Portugal, and Brazil over France. Obviously I would’ve been wrong.
It’s going to be all all-European cup this time. Personally, I’d love to see France vs. Germany in the finals.

ParticipantQuarter finals, today’s matches:
France – Brazil 1-0
England Portugal 1-3, in penalty shootout, since the game and extra time finished 0-0Well, what I consider surprise is Portugal’s win over England, mostly because many significant players were absent from Portugal. They will return though now against France.
What i don’t consider surprise is France’s win. For two simple reasons: France was playing better and better in the last few games, definitely they play good quality football now, they have big stars playing. Top class.
And second, Brazil didn’t ever prove, in any game, that they really are the best team of the world and that they can get for second WC in a row the cup. They were disappointing let’s face it.So here are the two big semifinals:
Germany – ItalyFrance – Portugal
I’m up for a Germany – France final as well, but with France to win please ๐
England – Portugal highlights
Brazil – France highlightsP.S. Thanks Jeff and Sarah ๐

ParticipantHeh, when I saw Brazil loose I went to tell like everyone who was at my house (cousins, aunt were over) and many were like “What?!” Heh. I was hoping England would have one though, I sadly didn’t get to see that game since I had to go out to places. Anyways, so now we are down to 4 teams. I’m going for France.

ParticipantOh my goodness what a game!
Germany – Italy 0-2 (in extra time)—- Italy is in the final!
The game finished 0-0 and it went into extra time where Italy scored 2 goals in the very last 3 minutes! Right when everyone thought this would go on penalty shootout, Italy with two great goals kicked out the hosts!
GREAT game!
