Okay because of the hurricane a refinary platform was washed away. I was just told by brother who owns a gas station that his next gas load in the morning will be 20 cents higher because of this. Doesnt it just amaze you that when the oil companies buy on futures the pirces hit the pumps the next day. I saw a report last week that it takes almost 9 months for a barrel of oil to get refined and shipped. If they work on futures a barrel of oil closed in november at 41.50 a barrel. Why are we paying 3.00. Canada here I come lol.
August 29, 2005 at 11:17 pm #128972OreoMemberGeez, perhaps I’ll fill up tonight…this SUCKS! Also, some states charge extra taxes that don’t go anywhere…which means higher prices. BLAH
August 30, 2005 at 2:13 am #129006MrOatsMemberYeah, here in NY it is pretty expensive also… I think about $2.39 on average? Anyway, we live close to PA, so we go to the border (well, my mom and I) and fill up most of the time. (I like to fill up the gas tank…:D ) It’s about $2.24 there. Still Outrageous? Yes. Cheaper than NY? Yes. So it gives us some sad relief at least… I wonder how much it will be when I get my own car… Yikes!
EDIT: Gas has just been jacked up to $2.90 for medium grade today…
August 30, 2005 at 2:37 am #128973OreoMemberit’s almost 3$ for premium (which one of our cars is supposed to take or it gums up the engine)….I am SURE by tomorrow it will be OVER 3 🙁
August 30, 2005 at 2:47 am #128999AqeelParticipantThe total amount of oil in the world is estimated at 4 trillion barrels. Of this total, experts estimate that approximately half is recoverable. These same experts estimate that 465 billion barrels of oil have already been consumed. The current rate of consumption around the world is 22 billion barrels per year. At this rate, the world has about 45 years left to enjoy the luxuries that oil provides. Once world oil reserves becomes depleted, companies may look into the estimated 800 billion barrels which remain to be discovered, or are not recoverable with our current technology (Environmental Science, A Global Concern). Some prospective drilling sites where oil companies are researching are located in Alaska and the Caspian Basin. A large potential for liquid hydrocarbon resources, including shale oil and tar sands, exist mainly throughout North America.
Global oil discovery peaked in the 1960s and oil production is likely to peak as soon as 2007. With a world economy based on fossil fuel, the economic and social consequences will be dire. The prices will rise with the every passing day, so there is a need of new oil/energy resources or to cut short our enery consumption, changing our life style.
You can see an interesting article there if you’re interested with world energy future, that is your future also.

August 30, 2005 at 8:58 am #128985RabidKittenParticipant…. Rochester is sticking somewhere in the mid 2.30’s or so… we’ll see what happens though. Oy this could really put a noose around the neck of my thin budget. Stupid college has to be all the way across town…. *mutters*
August 30, 2005 at 2:34 pm #128974OreoMemberAlso, from what my hubby tells me, it’s always MORE expensive in Europe…well, this is a good time to start developing those WATER powered car.
August 30, 2005 at 4:50 pm #129007LinuxAddictMemberThe average price by me is about $2.80. But in the city (Chicago) gas is over $3.00 for regular. Makes me think about whether or not I want to get rid of my gas guzzler.

Right at the moment you can cut short your oil consumption by changing your life style. The other alternative is to use Seed Oil, oil extracted from the seeds of different plants. A team of researchers here in Pakistan is working on such a project and they are aimed to market upgraded vehicles in 2006 those will use this oil, government has setup a task force that will make sure the supply of these seeds for large scale oil production. That task force will simply urge farmers to grow these seeds. Why can’t ideas like this be practiced? Instead of killing thousands in Iraq to capture oil reserves, cut short your energy needs or use alternative techniques and technologies.[/color wrote:

You have some really interesting points. Actually, a water powered car was tossd around here in the states (at least in theory) almost 20 years ago. (It’s the oil tycoons that tend to keep those ideas from coming to fruition). Also, we do a lot to save power. Many times we make combined trips to shopping areas, we car pool, and do NOT own an SUV (though it would make travel nicer in the snowy days of winter).
Something that is working well here (actually if you look for Willie Nelson-yup the country star for many years you’ll find it) is something from Soy Beans. It is working quite well and is a naturally renewing energy. (Plus SOOO much less pollution…and I’m ALL for cutting down pollution!) As my father mentioned to me yesterday, maybe people will start giving renewable energies a chance now that oil is getting so high…it’s a good kick in the behind for those who poo-pooed renewables in the past.August 30, 2005 at 7:23 pm #128983Road_RunnerMemberHigh is $3.07 for regular in San Diego, CA.
August 30, 2005 at 9:44 pm #128991gossipingraeMemberIt usually takes me about $14 to fill up my car when it’s on empty. That was before all this high gas price nonsense. Now it takes me $26 flippin’ dollars to fill up my little Mirage!
I’m glad I’m back at school. I’ll just walk everywhere, and a tank of gas will last me like 3 weeks.
I went to Philly last weekend to visit relatives. Gas down there was $2.73 for UNLEADED! Up at home in JT was like $2.52 for unleaded, and here in Bloom I think I saw gas at Sheetz for $2.49.
Right now, I’m running on fumes. I’d rather spend my money on $1 rum and cokes on Tuesday nights at Harry’s Bar and Grille. No need to pay for gas when you can walk everywhere or take a bus!
August 30, 2005 at 10:11 pm #128987Red DevilMemberWell, i remember a simliar topic a few months ago, Crazy Penguin worked out the equivalent for the UK… and none of you really have a right to complain. 😛
Quote:Oh and that $5.83 is a conservative estimate from a rough guess at what the price was, looking at the price of the most expensive petrol the other day it works out at just over $6.00.🙁
August 31, 2005 at 7:32 am #128990sarahtownyMemberYes Martin, I know we are charged so much here when it comes to fuel. That’s why my car is diesel. As it’s alot cheaper, lucky for me though I don’t have a lot of travelling to do each day. But even so to fill my car is around £50.00 each month, which is what about $90!! … So yes, please hurry up, bring on the water powered car! Like now please :0)
