MemberMy IM Forwarding used to work fine until a few days ago. When someone tried to send me a message they kept getting the error “Auto response from xxxxx: There was a problem sending – please try again later.” My phone works fine and it’s well inside my service area. Does anyone know why?
p.s. AOL Tech Support can bite me.

MemberI know exactly how to turn it off for AOL. Go to AOL alerts and go to preferences. Set up your cell phone for your alerts. Then delete your phone from the alerts after you set it up. It automatically deletes your phone from IM forwarding also.

KeymasterAnother unhappy Mobile Messenger customer wrote me via email:
Quote:quote:I have the AIM mobile messenger. I have tired everything to get rid of it. I have unchecked the IM Forwarding Setup box and that still doesn’t work. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Thanks. If the technique described at the beginning of this topic doesn’t work, give us some more detail and we’ll try to help. It might be useful to know who your wireless carrier is, what model of phone you have, and what type of mobile alert from AOL you’ve setup, along with a description of the problem (besides “can’t turn it off”). Are you getting all IMs forwarded to your cell phone? Are you always “online?” All this info will help us, help you. 🙂

MemberOkay, I signed up for that stupid IM forwarding thing too, and can’t get rid of it. I tried everything that was posted on this board, and nothing worked. Could someone please help me? why is there no way to unsubscribe from the service?? The IM’s I receive while I have an away message up and even when I’m signed off instant messenger go directly to my cell phone as a text message, and i get charged .10 each for those even if i dont read them. If I’m signed off, my screenname is still on with mobile icon next to it, so people still IM me. What can i do???

ParticipantI can’t find a way to get rid of it either but for the time being I’ll stick with it. Has anyone had an autoresponse show up for people IM’ing them when they’re message is forwarded to their phone? I can’t get it to go away. Whenever someone sends me a message to my cell they get a response saying: “Your IM has been forwarded to my cell phone and, although I can read your messages, I cannot reply. Thanks for your IM!Want your IMs forwarded to your cell phone? Click here.” Is there a way to get rid of this auto response??

MemberWell, luckily for you AOL users, there is an easy way to get rid of IM Forwarding. Just go to AOL Keyword “IM Forwarding” and uncheck the box. Unfortunately for us AIM users, its not so easy. I still have no idea how to get rid of it. This sucks. Calling AOL doesn’t work, b/c they just say that they aren’t affilliated with AIM.

MemberI found it!!!!!!!!!!
Go to:
http://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/login/login.psp?siteId=IMFmain&authLev=1&mcState=initialized&triedAimAuth=ySign in with the screen name you’re having problems with. This works for an AIM screenname!!! It will bring up the IM Forwarding Set Up page with your cell number already written, and the box already checked. Uncheck the box, and click ok. The web page will try to close itself, click ok, and you are DONE!
Have a friend IM you while you have an away message up just to check, or sign off and call a friend to make sure you are signed off.
Don’t know how on earth I came across this, but i almost couldn’t find it a second time.May 26, 2003 at 3:55 pm #64186bothnuts69

Membermy issue is similar to many- ive had IM forwarding for a while-when i have an awy msg up if someone IM’S me it goes to my phone and i like that but ppl can still read my awy msg by reading my profile and i have the little yellow message thing next to my sn….BUT for the past week when i put up an away message- the mobile device phone is next to my phone – which i DONT like because it looks as if im signed off which i am not- i am away and friends cannot read my away message- NOW i tried to get rid of IM FORWARDING by going to IM FORWARDING in preferences and the link that everyone has given. But my problem is when i try to sign in w/the sn that i dont want it on anymore it comes up with “USer ID and password were not recognized” and i try signing in from scratch into the Screename thing and it lets me but when i try to go to anything having to do with IM Forwarding it doesnt let me! iasked them to eamil my password and it is the right password but i STILL cant even sign into that webpage in order to uncheck the boxfor IM forwarding- CAN ANYONE HELP ME!?!?!? please EMAIL me at sara242@Juno.com or IM ME at sara7985…….i really need to get rid of this IM FORWARDING!!!!!!

MemberI signed up for that stupid IM forwarding thing and I can’t get rid of it! I’ve searched through this forum on this topic and looked at all the suggestions that people have given. None of them have worked. Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of it forever? It’s really annnoying. It keeps ringing whenever someone IM’s me and the stupid mobile device is my icon. The mobile device icon is never on when I’m online. It’s always when I’m offline. Does anyone know a way to get rid of this? I need serious help with this! [/font=Comic Sans MS]

MemberI know how to do it for AOL only. I’m still trying to figure it out for you AIM user. Somebody else said this also and it works. Go to PREFRENCES and then click on ALERTS AND REMINDERS and in the corner it should have a box that has your cell phone # and next to it, it should say ‘EDIT’ and ‘DELETE’. Click Delete. It takes about 24 hours to work though. But after that you shouldn’t get any more text messages. It worked for me. It should work for you too. If it doesn’t work for any reason, call AOL.

MemberSolution that has worked for me and about 4 friends who have tried the IM forwarding…
-Go to: http://www.aim.com
-Go to the left side of the screen and click on AIM Wireless, which is the 8th thing down in the blue section and click on it.
-On the bottom right hand side of the new window there should be a box that says “Don’t have an AIM phone? Get your IMs forwarded to your cell!” and click on the first link.
-On the page that comes up, just unclick the box that says “Enable IM Forwarding.”
Then everything should be fine. -
