It seems to me that they finally went out of business, Odigo client doesn’t connect and odigo.org or odigo.com pages don’t exist anymore, just general NetworkSolutions page selling the space. Can anybody confirm that your Odigo as cold as mine too?
November 16, 2005 at 4:34 am #133491Jeff HesterKeymasterI cannot login either, and http://www.odigo.com does open a generic Network Solutions page.
A quick WHOIS returns:
Quote:Registrant:
Odigo Inc.
40 Ramland Road
Orangeburg, NY 10962Domain Name: ODIGO.COM
Administrative Contact:
Rapaport, [email protected]
Comverse
11 Broadway Ste 365
New York, NY 10004…
Record expires on 18-Jun-2006.
Record created on 18-Jun-1999.
Database last updated on 15-Nov-2005 23:20:22 ESTAccording to this, the domain is good for another eight months. It also shows the record being updated today.
I’ve sent an email to Comverse to try to understand what’s going on. I’ll report back what I learn. Meanwhile, if you discover any change in service status, please reply here.
November 16, 2005 at 4:52 am #133495dentateckMemberI’ve e-mailed to Comverse too, but I really doubt that they will answer, they never did in the past. I have a feeling that this time around Odigo won’t be back, time to move on and look for an alternative, which I still don’t have despite trying to find anything remotely as usefull (to me) as Odigo.
November 21, 2005 at 1:13 am #133496dentateckMemberWell, I guess there are no more Odigo users out there, no one would post a single comment except a moderator of this forum. Pity…
November 21, 2005 at 5:09 am #133507SpikeMemberThat Whois Information is 100% correct. The date that the domain expires on the Whois Info is not the same date that your actual domain stops forwarding or being hosted, ie. My domain just expired last month, so I Whois’ed it, and it really doesn’t expire for another year. (Or so they say)
As for the date last updated, that simply means that Whois.sc scanned that page on that particular day, probably meaning there were some drastic changes to it and Whois.sc wants to keep a close eye on it.
But, alas, Odigo looks dead, there was no note they were changing names or anything, they just…disappeared.

As of now, I really have no idea of Odigo is comming or going. All I know is that I have seen many clients go down after the “4.x” series. Hopefully they are still there and going, but who knows.
December 6, 2005 at 10:18 am #133517Graham227MemberAnyone found any news on whether , this will ever come back?
Like others I have emailed them and don’t suppose I shall get a reply either. If they are no longer going to support this, maybe they could at least release the server software or open source, so that someone else could take over the running of it?
I would be 1 of many I am sure that would like to run a Odigo server.
Although it’s not been worked on for years. it has some neat features and I have met a nice lot of people on it.
A real shame if they either wont be bringing it back, or realease the code for fans to take over.December 7, 2005 at 2:52 pm #133512mrKMemberI have searched the internet and can find no reference anywhere to the fate of Odigo. All I know is that it vanished without warning. like many others, I wonder what has happened and if it will ever return.. I had a good circle of friends in Odigo, most of whom I can no longer contact as they had no alternative so presumably, I have lost them all now. Strangely enough, many would not entertain doubling up with an MSN or Yahoo presence as they deemed them too unreliable!!! I sincerely hope that if anyone capable does take over the Odigo system they restore the original database so that “members” can restore contact.
December 9, 2005 at 2:41 am #133524smoky_joe2003MemberAfter doing a Yahoo search for Odigo and checking out some of the search results one site comes up that says “Network Solution – This site is under construction and coming soon. Please check back at a later time. This Domain is registered with Network Solutions” I don’t know if this means anything or not… or how long this page has been in the “construction zone”.
December 9, 2005 at 2:58 am #133498dentateckMember99 times out of 100 it means that company is out of business, ” This site is under construction and coming soon. Please check back at a later time ” is another way of saying, oh gee, get a life and find something else. I personally never ever in years on the net have seen anyone come back after “Under constration” sign. Prove me wrong!
December 17, 2005 at 1:19 pm #133492rustedtightMemberIt’s gone.
Live with it.
What will my north African friends do now to stir racial tension?
Perhaps legitimize themselves on MSN?… dont hold your breath.Dee.
December 17, 2005 at 1:35 pm #133493rustedtightMemberwith the demise of Odigo we lose a special type of chat engine… one that allowed any user to chat with any other user without prior protocol.
Odigo was certainly crude.. it was also damned interesting.
Odigo offered what no other chat engine offered……… the ability to chat with a complete stranger.
Some of those users were crude………… so what else is interesting?
Some of those users were racial biggots.. we lerned to live with them.
many were simple people behind internet-cafe systems just wishing to touch base with another human.
We touched……… we learned about their lives… we enriched our own.
I am sad it it is gone.Dee
December 17, 2005 at 3:15 pm #133509MrEggsaladParticipantWell, the closest thing to Odigo now, is called Meetro. It’s the same basic idea, you have a bunch of members on there, and it can tell you how close, or far away they are. They are grouped into like “Within 1 mi” etc. They also have “Random People” who is just a handful of people on the protocal at a time. Meetro also connects to places like AIM, MSN, YAHOO!, I can’t remember all that it connects to though. However, it is a lot like Odigo so you should like it all the same. 🙂

Ever heard of Internet Relay Chat? You join channels based on a common interest, and chat about whatever you like, to people you don’t know. IRC protocols have been defined since 1993, before Odigo I believe?
