you mean it’s this easy?* Connecting to irc.dal.net (6661)

* Unable to connect (Connection timed out)Yeah right.
December 18, 2005 at 4:33 pm #133506DavidParticipantDALnet, and most other networks, have the ircd listen on port 6667, not 6661.

Odigo was certainly crude.. it was also damned interesting.
Odigo offered what no other chat engine offered……… the ability to chat with a complete stranger. That’s what I’m missing most about Odigo. I’ve tried that on ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, anything I could find. All those IM progs are fine if you wanna keep in touch with your friends and family. But when it comes to a completely random conversation with a complete stranger from half around the globe, there was nothing else like Odigo and still there isn’t.
Yes, I’ve came across racial biggots and nasty people, america haters and perverts, but that was just a minor side effect next to ability to talk to some really amazing people out there. You could not believe the conversations I’ve had. I’ve made friends in Russia, Japan, Israel and oh yes, even north Africa. It was really intresting to know uncensored opinions of simple people say from Middle East on war in Iraq, or heartfelt wishes for harricane Katrina victims.
And don’t forget, on the morning of 9/11, Odigo was the one and only IM to warn people about upcoming strike, for some unknown reasons they knew it BEFORE it happened.December 24, 2005 at 2:39 am #133525justmemeMemberWell yes it seems odigo is dead,i was trying to contact my friends in isereal to find out what is the problem but they were all on odigo lol and i have lost them ,sent e-mail to converse but havent got a reply ,i hope it comes back or another like it ,was good program.

If anyone was unable to exchange contact details with any friends they may have liked, they may find them listed here, or they may enter their details into the list for their friends to find them.http://odigo.meeting.point.c4r5.co.uk/
my thoughts on Odigo going offline maybe that another company has bought them out, ‘ebay’ has bought out ‘skype’, maybe ebay bought them out and has had them sign a non-disclosure, or someone else bought them out and has done like wise, it is a bit mysterious that NO ONE knows anything, when I went to comverses site to see their list, odigo was no longer on it, but on viewing the page source, the odigo link has just been commented out, maybe they have had a serious failure of their systems/database, and embarassment prevents them from saying what’s happened.
Why have they commented out the odigo link? and not just delete it, unless they will reuse the link later and edit it to list a newer project when one comes along.
anyways, good luck and happy new year to you all.

December 29, 2005 at 6:29 pm #133510MrEggsaladParticipantIt’s really quite strange this happened for no reason anyone seems to know of. And the fact that it’s just gone like that, well you would think somehow word would have gotten around. Either way, it just seems so sad that a great thing like this just went out. Poof, it’s gone. 🙁
December 31, 2005 at 8:02 am #133518Graham227MemberAgree with you MrEggsalad, some bitch about it, and yes at times users did have to put up with a small % of people sending irritating mesages, but I alo got to chat to some great people from it, and still hope that those who still own the software either sell it on to another company or better still open it upm so other fans of it can run there own servers.
Best wishes for 2006 all 🙂January 7, 2006 at 5:11 pm #133501dentateckMemberI just got a message from one of my old contacts in Odigo, who suggested to me how to make Odigo get working again. It has to do with editing hosts file in сwindowssystem32driversetchosts. Open it in Notepad and add the string to the last line:
216.33.42.78 im.odigo.com
Save it and Odigo starts working again. To my amazement it worked, I connected. To my understanding it’s just some alternative server ( or just alternative way of connecting to the old Odigo server ), which correctly gave me all of my contact information and who’s online at the moment.
What do you think, is it dangerous to use it with Odigo now, I mean who knows where you are connecting to, right? On the other hand Odigo is so primitive that I don’t think anyone could get into your system thru it.
Please, let me know, any experts in this area?January 7, 2006 at 7:12 pm #133511MrEggsaladParticipantWell, I doubt it’s really a threat. However, just to be safe you may want to get all your contact’s contact information and talk to them other ways. Like I said, I think it’s probably ok. But if you really wanted to be safe, just get their info and talk to them some other way.
January 7, 2006 at 7:44 pm #133502dentateckMemberOne by one, many of my contacts come back, all using that hosts fix. Anyone else tried it? Any Windows professionals opinions on harms of editing hosts file?

the IP 216.33.42.78 is a hosting service savvis.net looks like there now hosting the odigo serverJanuary 10, 2006 at 4:00 am #133500dentateckMemberbilmc wrote:the IP 216.33.42.78 is a hosting service savvis.net looks like there now hosting the odigo server
savvis.net seems like a nice company with a wide variety of services and it was terribly nice of them to host orphaned Odigo community, but isn’t it like temporary? They can’t host it for long unless they buy a brand and I didn’t find any mention of Odigo on their site so far. I just keep my fingers crossed, it feels so good to see that tiny green “O” in my system tray and have all of my friends back.January 15, 2006 at 7:49 pm #133519Graham227MemberTried Odigo tonight and its back up and running again 😀 😀
Had a few probs loading http://www.odigo.org , but that might be due to the load on it as people try and download the software again
Take care
😀 😀February 7, 2006 at 4:38 pm #133513mrKMemberOdigo suddenly came back but I think a lot of participants must have left or trashed it because none of my original contacts have appeared again bar one. I also found that I could not log into one of my 2 identities on my main computer, but it was ok on my laptop!! I’ve since deleted that profile and reinstalled it and it now works fine. Can anyone tell me where to go to find the “history” of conversations? It’s hiding in there somewhere but I haven’t located it yet!! (Win XP pro)
