Ah yes, Companion is not compatible with MSN Messenger 5.0. You must be running 4.7 for it to work with MSN. As an alternate, remember that it also works with AOL Instant Messenger.
February 25, 2003 at 8:10 pm #101338Tamahawk82MemberI downloaded this the other day trying to find something different than Yahoo Webcam cause it always messes up for others. I have broadband and I tell you what I was amazed at how it worked. I can really have live video it seems. Glad to keep in touch with family. Only thing is Id like to be able to record some like a camgrab which i use. I guess since this is fairly new its going to be awhile to find out. I havent used it with msn. I will try though
March 12, 2003 at 1:47 am #101342RoLYroLLsMemberHey guys. It’s March 11th, 2003 and I just tried opening the very impresive IM Companion and it prompted me to download the newest version:1.3.1:2083. I have been using this companion since I bougth my web cam about 3 months ago. It has always worked perfect with MSN. But i get the same problem that QUICKY has with AIM. I launch AIM, the the companion. Then In the companion I see the list of users on my buddy list who are online. I select their name and hit invite to view my webcam. What happens then is AIM opens an IM window with the user’s name on it but with nothing in the chat section. No link, no text, nothing. Another thing is that with the new version now it does not work well with MSN. I get a message saying: “*UserName* does not have Webcam for MSN Messenger installed (or it disabled)” even tho they have installed it. The user has Windows XP Home and same versions of AIM and MSN as I do. My configurations:
Dell Dimension 8200
Windows XP Pro
512MB RAM
2.4 GHz
AIM 5.1.3036
MSN 5.0.0543Need more info? Post it here, I’ll check this often.
March 15, 2003 at 7:51 am #101343fallenleaf02MemberI just installed Logitech IM Video Companion and I tried to use it with AOL IM but it doesn’t work. It couldn’t broadcast and the status is always “Ready”. I would appreciate any help from you guys.
April 3, 2003 at 3:46 pm #101346DruMemberI have two web cams set up at different locations. Both running XP Pro. I am using AOL IM. From one direction it works fine. From the other direction the Chat window opens – but nothing appears in it (as described by many in this forum). Has the problem been located? Thanks!
April 15, 2003 at 2:24 am #101327FlyBabyTinaMemberI had used this program on win 98 with no problems, except for my slow connection (26,400)
You guys have convinced me to re-download it on my xp pro machine now and give it a go… maybe I’ll get smoother video this time… still 26, 400 dial-up… 🙁April 19, 2003 at 11:15 am #101350annaverParticipantI have the exact same problem as Rolyrols. I’m using MSN 5.0 and downloaded the Webcam add-on by Logitech. I have not been able to get it work at all. Anyone know if there is a fix or a new version other than the one linked on the MSN Messenger home page?
April 28, 2003 at 8:56 pm #101360b00tyParticipantI’m having the same exact problem with AIM… it worked fine before I was forced to upgrade my version of IM Companion… I’ve tried complete uninstall/reinstalls of everything, thoroughly cleaning my registry in between, and no luck… I’m running XP, but not SP1… I’m hoping to help find a solution for this… anyone else had any luck yet?
April 28, 2003 at 9:03 pm #101347DruMembernever could get my none working system to work – and lost function on working system when upgraded to new AIM. FYI: I have been using free webcam software called “eyeball chat” and am very pleased with it.
April 28, 2003 at 10:05 pm #101330FaizanMemberCan you give us a link to download it please?
Thanks in advance

April 28, 2003 at 10:15 pm #101359b00tyParticipantProblem with eyeball chat is that to have people see a streaming video of you (as far as I can tell), they have to download the client… otherwise, you have to resort to recording videos and transferring them… correct me if I’m wrong.
I got this webcam so I could *stream* video to my friends/family back home… I don’t really have the time or energy right now to learn how to run my own webserver that would be capable of streaming it for me… I would think that there’s got to be a plug-in out there that works… hopefully Logitech figures out the bug and gets this one working.
What’d be REALLY nice is if there was a plug-in for Trillian Pro…
April 28, 2003 at 10:37 pm #101344DruMemberyes, all users need to download the software and create a signon.
not unlike AOL IM or MSN in that all parties need to have the software
installed on their PCs in order to communicate with each other. (they don’t need a web cam in order to see your video). it also allows voice and text chat with the video chat and has easy tools for sending video clip. It (optionally) shows your video as well as others and let’s you open caht room for multiway communications (I haven’t used that feature yet).April 29, 2003 at 12:36 am #101358b00tyParticipantThe point is, my friend, that most people already have AIM, MSN, etc… and aren’t probably going to want to run yet ANOTHER IM app. That’s why I run Trillian… I got sick of having to have 3+ IM apps open just to keep in touch with people. The nice thing about Logitech IM Companion was that it worked with AIM and MSN, which are probably the most widely-used IM platforms… Y! (so I’ve heard) has built-in webcam support, so Logitech was only leaving out ICQ…
The video clip funtionality is pointless, since it’s easy to record your own clips and then just send them as normal file transfers. I did try the software and it worked, but I still have to expect everyone I know to go download this new app and that’s just a pain when they all already have MSN or AIM, know what I mean?
Anyway, thanks for the heads up on EC… it’s a temporary solution until this Logitech IM Companion thing gets figured out.
