RoLy roLLs,
So, if i log in with something like “WonderWoman” instead of “Wonder Woman” it works?
Is that what you have all been saying?

October 20, 2003 at 6:53 am #101339RoLYroLLsMemberActually, you know how AIM allows ur to format your name? well my AOL name I registered as “ROLY ROLLS” with a space, but when i registered the name with AIM to use AIM also, I reformated the name to be “RoLYroLLs” with no space. AOL also allows up to 6 more names and i had other names registered that have no spaces when I first created it. When I used AIM with that name, IM Video Companion works just fine! but it does not work with rolyrolls even tho i reformatted it (which can only be done for visual purposes on AIM, not AOL.)
So in conclusion, I think that’s where the problem is. Only names first registered without any spaces will work. I’m sure that if this is the problem, it should be an easy fix for logitech when it comes to their attention, but I still feel there should be more users to test this out and make sure.
Thanks.

Thanks for the advice.
Just one more question…
I really liked this guy back in like June, and it was so weird because he disappeared off the face of the earth. I didn’t even know if he was alive…
Now i don’t even live in Miami anymore. I moved to New York City. But i’ve always been curious…
Any ideas?

October 31, 2003 at 3:58 pm #101380ergoMemberWell, it seems they finally killed off Logitech IM Companion. There’s been a message for the past several weeks stating that the service would no longer be available after October 13, but today (Halloween) is the first day it actually didn’t work for me:
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) Users – Important Information
Logitech IM Video Companion is no longer available since video functionality is integrated in the new AOL 9 Optimized Instant Messenger. With the video feature being fully integrated, this will give you a much better experience than Logitech IM Video Companion. You can also use your webcam with MSN(R) Messenger 6.0, Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Messenger (for XP users only).
Of course, “AOL 9 Optimized Instant Messenger” is only available to AOL subscribers. I can and will use MSN Messenger for the time being (that being the whole reason for Microsoft making this “deal” with Logitech), but most people I know use AIM. Does anyone know of any plug-ins for AIM that will fill this gap?
November 6, 2003 at 4:24 am #101381beanersb2197Memberhaving same problem as ergo… it sucks… and so does AOL but i like AIM and everyone i talk to does to… I like the Video IM program but now i cant use it… i told logitech about it and they cant help… if you find a way to use it or another program that is similar and will work let me know…
November 6, 2003 at 7:02 pm #101382grivadMemberYeah, this really blows that it’s requiring a ‘mandatory upgrade’ that makes it not work with AIM. What a bunch of crap.
Maybe someone can crack it to prevent it from connecting to whatever server it connects to when checking for upgrades..?
I’ve looked a lot and haven’t found a program that works as well as this one does/did. Logitech bastards 🙂
January 27, 2004 at 6:52 pm #101383CarolMemberIt’s been 3 months since Logitech and AIM 5.2 dropped their support for webcams using AIM. So far, neither company has offered a solution. Logitech says it’s an AOL issue, and AOL doesn’t respond to online requests for help for AIM 5.2 (they don’t even have a link for customer support at their website, with the exception of the beta area).
I was an AOL subscriber for years, but poor customer support is one reason I left. Has anyone found a work around for this? I’m using MSN Messenger, but my friends all use AIM. If you’re so inclined, you may want to write to these people and express your frustration:
